I used to like A7X, but after the singer messed up his vocal chords and they decided to be goths answer to Guns and Roses, I lost interest big style. you are somehow implying that avenged sevenfold are goth. how wrong are you? Too right! Goth? You kidding? If anything, they've gone the other way. Especially with their most recent album.

avenged sevenfold are barely heavy metal to start with. certainly not goth. i hate how anyone into rock music is automatically tagged as a 'goth'. the music synonymous with the youngsters that claim to be or are tagged as 'goth' couldnt be further away from what goth music is. this frustrates me. i was labelled as a greb when i was a teenager, there was only 3 or 4 of us in year 8 who had the sense to listen to music outisde of the charts (i remember being astonished that one of my teachers knew who aerosmith were when i was 12), but atleast i could understand being called a greb because, in hindsight, it had little to do with music, but more to do with the style.
nowadays kids are being pigeon holed completely wrongly, and while i dont strictly agree with them being pigeonholed as a certain group, i know its natural for people to stick to what they know (safety in numbers etc) and it is human nature to label that group, what infuriates me is that the label they have given isnt even relevant.
like being an 'emo' for example, half the kids listen to bands like panic at the disco, which couldnt be further away from the true emo bands and the pioneers of the music. its just another term that is innaccurate, and being both a 'goth' or an 'emo' promotes the ideal that it is not only, ok to be depressed but it is cool to wallow in self despair. while i dont have a problem with teenagers who are upset and depressed, glamourising it can only do harm and take away the needs and facilities of those genuine cases that need help.
i understand that terms change and develop into new meanings in time, but they shouldnt detract from what the original meaning was entirely.
be who you want to be, be what you are, but dont claim to be something you are not.
sorry, rant over.

Great post! I hate the "pigeonholes" I hate the fact that I have to read Kerrang! if I want to learn about some of the more modern style bands like My Chem, Fallout Boy, Linkin Park, etc., I have to read Classic Rock should I wish to know about some of the bands of yesteryear who are still performing like Journey, Ratt, Y&T... I have to visit obscure websites to find about about newer/current bands that play the classic rock style like Tyketto, Tesla, Heat and many many more. It really pees me off that the music press decide who they think will be huge and then promote the hell out of them and forego other more talented bands/singers/musicians. I know this has always been the case but it still pees me off. Along the same lines, I hate artists that "bandwagon" you know the ones, they tried to be Green Day after American Idiot, then My Chem when The Black Parade came out, now they are trying to be Fallout Boy. Aaargh!!! I suppose it is the same with pop music with the Lily Allen, Kate Nash thing, Amy McDonald and Duffy, and all those godawful, IMO, R&B artists. I guess it is all down to record labels wanting to be a part of the next big thing!! Buster, while it is you I quoted here, I finally got hold of "Folklore And Superstition" by Black Stone Cherry. Well MrsMiner bought it. It blew me away, a great recommendation, thank you!

Great album that, their first one's good too. Saw em in Shuff last year and the singer/lead guitarist is a great talent (the rhythm guitarist... not so much). Not wanting to inflate Buster's ego anymore (it might pop ), but The Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound from a little earlier in the thread, is a cracking recommendation from him too. Listened to that over and over. So cheers Buster.

i know im arrogant and people dont hold me in high regard, but one thing i do know is music. and good music at that. now if you'd all listen to me about tv shows and watch the wire...
grumpy, as yotes said, black stone cherry's first album is the better listen, in fact the second album, i think, is surprisingly weak in comparison.
Yotes, the gaslight anthem are playing the rescue rooms next month some time i think, definitely one to go to. check out their latest album (called the 59 sound) and their previous effort sink or swim. both are cracking for a modern take on the 'jersey sound'.

At the end of the day music is all about personal taste. I personally don't give a gnats chuff what banner, bracket, style, or pigeon hole it comes under. If I like it...I like it. Too much music these days is trying to be a fashion statement. Too may people like artists & bands because it fits in with their supposed image. Anyway... I am currently loving [glow=red,2,300]White Lies[/glow].

Could not agree more my tastes go from Vaughn Williams to Fleet Foxes and Nitin Sawnhey and Ian Brown in between, if i like it i get it, if someone else says i must like it i listen to it and then make my own mind up!
For example never worked out what fuss was with the overrated gallagher bros or radiohead and still dont!

I went to see Oasis in France last friday and they were amazing, i have never seen them live before but really blew me away, you always hear how they cant be arsed anymore but they put a lot of effort in and you could tell were really loving it and really appreciated the crowds reaction. The encor lasted for 5 songs which doesnt usually happen at gigs...Noel trying out his French made me laugh

I don't know what people think of him but I think Kevin Rudolf may be one for the future, well one of my future. I have found myself listening to him quite alot. His song "let it rock" with lil wayne seems to be a big hit amongst my generation and seems to have done quite well in the charts.
As well I am a big fan of airbourne ( a band that may be up your street buster, having re reading some of your posts in this thread) and their album " Runnin' wild" has made a good impression on me.
Another artist I like is Chris Daughtry. Wasn't aware of him until recently whilst at a mates and listening to him and realised what a catch his music was to me.
Other Bands/Artists you may want to look up are; Incubus Jason Mraz Kids in glass houses The Calling Weezer ( Been around a while I know) Daniel Merriweather
Incubus I would highly recommomend and Daniel Merriweather is also going to be one for the future, his new song "change" seems to be a big hit also. Also done a bit of work with mark ronson, most notablety "stop me"

im currently listening to friendly fires. really good indie band (indie as we know it in the mainstream for the pedants) that will be forgotten about, much like the bravery in that respect, though not musically.
