Thunder and lightning all around but none overhead so far. Spectacular sheet lightning with a few forks and bolts thrown in, but a long way off for the most part. Took a pint out into the garden and watched the heavenly light show - to the accompaniment of distant thunder and the screaming of low flying swifts. Most enjoyable. I like thunderstorms ;D They can be really frightening (and dangerous) on the mountains mind - to hear thunderclaps reverberating around cliff faces when you're up there among them is really quite intimidating So I guess that's why I enjoy thunderstorms at home - spectacular but little threat. Had to retreat indoors eventually tonight when the rain started - no doubt to be wakened in the early hours when a storm finally kicks off overhead! ;D

It was crazy over here in Birmingham! I live about a mile from Edgbaston and the cricket was abandoned sharpish. It was absolutely slating down and I honestly think one lightening bolt came down in my street, there was a huge crack and bright light. Great stuff. Its also been heavy tonight, I was out at a leaving party and stood under a skylight so could see a seriously impressive light show!
The rain has just started hammering down one again as well after quite a long time when it cleared up.

Don't talk to me about thunder, & chuffin' lightning!! Yesterday (28th June) was my 7th wedding anniversary. So, me & the luv-er-ly wife decide to pop down to London for the day on the train, & a great day we had too. We caught the 20.55 train back (due to arrive Nottingham 22.40), & just past Market Harborough, the skies opened, & god was clapping loudly & taking the odd flash photograph. Then...it aaaaaaaaaall went Pete Tonge. The train grinds to a halt, & doesn't move for 20 mins...no anouncements...no nothing. Eventually we are told ''No trains will be going to Nottingham, due to problems in Nottingham because of the storm. We are going to take you to Derby, where 3 coaches will be waiting to transfer you to Nottingham. Should you miss your connections or trams upon arrival in Nottingham, taxis will be provided'' A minor problem we think. The train then doesn't move for another hour & a half...''We are sorry ladies & gentleman, but lightning has struck the signals in front, & we can't move till they are fixed. We are going to go back to the previous station, & change onto another track, before we continue our journey into Leicester, Loughborough, & Derby. We are sorry to report that NO trains are currently going into or out of Nottingham''. We eventually arrive into Derby.... & Derby staff haven't got a clue what to do with 200+ passengers desperate to get back to Nottingham. They certainly weren't expecting us, or going to provide coaches!!. After a few heated moments, they eventually scramble one coach to bus us to Nottingham. God only knows how many trips it's going to have to make. Myself, & my now VERY tired wife, manage to squeeze onto the bus. Great...we are finally on our way home. Then people start shouting requests to the driver ''Drop us at Long eaton.....I want to go to Chilwell..I want Attenborough.....I need Beeston'' The coach back is like a Magical Mystery tour in the dark!. We finally arrive back at Nottingham station..desperate to climb into our promised waiting, & courtesy taxis. The coach pulls up outside Nottingham staion about an hour ago..Guess what..It's ALL dark!!. No staff..& NO Taxis. Midland Mainline....Your a ******* joke! Finally arrived home 20 mins ago. After I should have been home around 23.00. I can accept 'adverse weather conditions' etc..but not being passed from pillar to post & LIED to. Lets hope I have better luck with the trains taking me to Cardiff, later today to see U2 & The Killers.

very dangerous working outside when one of those comes along, where i work there are aircraft, loading equipment, etc etc, all sorts of metal objects, the sort that conduct electricity, so yes very enjoyable thankyou

I didn't get no thunderstorm where I live. 10.30 last night my friend, who lives in Worksop, was giving me a running commentary on the thunderstorm and telling me it was coming my way, cos I'm further up north, nearly where Therapy lives in fact. And I went to bed anticipating the onslaught and nothing! A piddly little flash, 1 rumble and that was it. I think my mum was most disappointed. I'm terrified of thunderstorms and would no doubt have run across the landing to her bedroom. 22 years old and I still want my mum in a thunderstorm.

I've never seen a thunderstorm like it!! Me and my friends went to the jazz night at the Bell Inn, but we spent most of the evening outside watchin the storm, it was amazing! The thunder was that loud that when we went back inside the Bell Inn, you could here the thunder over the jazz music (which is pretty loud). Also on our way home we were comin over a hill and saw these 2 bolts go straight across the sky and when I got home there was the largest and brightest bolt come down that I've ever seen!! My Dad got some photos - I'll try and post them at a later date...but gosh was that storm great!!!

I love Thunderstorms, last night was great one of the best i've seen. Though nice to be watching them from a safe place as MP says. I remember being at the top of Kinder Scout in Derbyshire in one of the biggest storms i've ever seen, in order to escape it we all had to roll down the hill:D, i was seriously drenched.
