The penalties were announced as a 10 min misconduct and a Game misconduct. Best brush up on you referee signals Tim......

Yes, but Ivan got a 10 + GAME. I always assumed the Game was for whatever he mouthed off at Boniface after it all started. If he got 10+Game merely for the celebration alone, then that is utterly ludicrous. I thought Ivan left the ice, as Craighead did, just because he'd got a 10 minuter when there was only 5 minutes left in the game initially. Its all a bit silly really.

nah it is just that he gave the signal that refs usally use for kicking a players out (as the signal he used refs don't usally do that for 10min misconducts, even though they can)

No relation to how long - 10 mins, game or match etc. By the way - is "Over-celebrating a goal" mentioned in the rule book? Would look in mine but it's still packed following my house move.

Not as far as I remember. But even if I saw it I'd probably just think 'Bah - Like that will EVER get called'...

It means a misconduct penalty. You need to have it shown to you twice in a game to get a game penalty.

Tim, what happened to your post that I was just about to reply to. You haven't retracted your claim that you never said that it meant game penalty, have you?

perhapes refs should have this on there jersey Click here ;D ;D nah i never said that it didn't mean game penalty, just that refs don't usally use it (well hardly) when giving someone a 10 min misconduct they just go over to the bench and tell them.

The ref`s use signals most of the time, they don`t speak to the bench that much.
As far as I can recall the ref usually uses his signal for a misconduct to the player as well as to the bench, then he will tell the bench what it is for.

Sometimes I don't think Tim goes to the same games as us, or he just needs glasses, as his view is usually different to other people.

You beat me to it Greyhead! Tim, you really should watch the games more closely, surprising what you would learn.

Tim,
from where I was,
I saw Nigel signal to Marek that he had a 10 min penalty,he skated towards the bench to inform them ...at this point Marek was arguing the penalty(in my opinion quite rightly so) and Nigel then signalled again giving him his game penalty and pointing for him to leave the ice.

Hi all, I think the summing up of this matter is posted on Dave Page's site. Great pics as always. Look at the one of Marek standing and saluting with the crowd in the background. Does anyone look offended by Ivan's actions? I think everyone took it as the piece of showmanship it was, which livened up what was ,frankly, a poor game against poor opponents. Boniface made a bad call, completely out of touch with the game situation. The second misconduct is immaterial. You would expect Marek to be upset, and all he did initially was to 'applaud' the decision. And then he started mouthing off as Boniface stared at him. Embarrassing performance by Nigel. At a time when it looks like more NHL'ers will be heading to our shores, God knows what McKenna, Cairns et all, make of such officiating. That's what the Elite league should be looking at. Nigel needs to be told we don't pay to watch him. TGQ

Bonifarce was a joke last night, I thought he'd lost his whistle & that was why he was late back after the 2nd period break.
His call on Ivan was ridiculous and if he was implying Ivan was doing a nazi salute then I think it's him that should be worried about possible legal action.
I thought it was great though when we were all booing Bonifarce wherever he was in the arena. I'd like to think that he would be a bit embarassed about this, but his facial expression indicated that he rather enjoyed it!
It's about time we brought some NHL refs over instead of more NHL players. I wonder how our beloved stripeys would behave if they were threatened with that? ;D

Am i the only person that noticed that Boniface got an injury to his leg,and that he was bleating and moaning about it for ages, also that he sent the linesman over to Ivan to have a word( i guess Ivan caused the injury) so i am not too amazed to see Ivan get the boot 10 mins later for the most bogus of calls ive ever seen.

The goal & celebration are now available online, thanks to BBC in the East Midlands. The report starts at 20:57 into the broadcast and shows Marek Ivan's goal & celebration. www.bbc.co.uk/derby/realmedia/eastmidlandstoday/emt.ramNow somebody say Bonifarce got it right PS I've shamelessly stolen this link from the thread of the same topic on Steeltalk, Someone called Peacock posted it on there. Many thanks.

Having reviewed the salute on EMT I have no idea where Boniface dreamt up the 10 minute misconduct. I suspect Ivan got his Game when he smashed his stick into the boards as he left the ice (that one is in the IIHF rule book, the only reference to guestures to the crowd is for obscene or offensive ones.)
Also an interesting ploy sending players off the ice with a 10 minute misconduct. Nigel seems to have decided Fife were going to lose as JC would have been eligible to take part in Overtime.

Now somebody say Bonifarce got it right My dad was watching the broadcast with me (he wasn't at the game) and just turned to me and said "THAT is what he got sent off for?!" He isn't a hockey fan (yes, he is weird ) but it just goes to show how blatant a ridiculous call it actually was.
