He was on the same team as Konstantin Kalmikov last season.
I believe this is another link up with the University, the article on the Steelers homepage states he's coming here to do his Masters Degree.

Phew. For a minute I thought it was ex New Jersey Devil/Canadien Pierre Dagenais, who has been playing in europe. Now that WOULD be a signing. Randy D looks OK. The italian league is roughly on a par with ours, maybe slightly above. Can't get too excited.

They are putting a good team together arent they? If we sign a couple from Clarke, Macaslan, or Smith, we'll be up there with them
They have to gel together as a team and i think ME has done a great job of this with us

I think so far most teams are putting together good teams but the last few seasons we have had the best team on paper but have not been able to do anything so it looks like we might have a chance then lol. XD

I said it a few weeks ago, but that's another worrying signing by them. He looks to be a Corey Neilson type defenseman

Can't really judge him yet until we see him play. If they are prepared to take him for two years though must mean they have confidence in him to be a top defenceman in the EIHL.

Probably had to sign him for 2 years because of his university course, nothing to do with his abilty, which looks good on paper. Anyone think the wage cap is starting to look preety worthless?

Anyone think the wage cap is starting to look preety worthless? "starting"? According to half of Sheffield, we've already broken the wage-cap...

Pidge assured us all last season that Nottingham would never break the wage cap under your current owner, for he is a bastion of morals. Belfast however, wage cap breaking scum!

For the record I'm not actually accusing Steelers of breaking the wage cap, more making a point about how clubs are finding ways around it. Bit rich anyway, plenty of Steelers accusing Panthers of breaking the cap based solely on rumour. Now that's a record, and without rolling eyes. Try it, it's better than being sanctimonious.

It's easy to stay within the wage cap and I'm surprised many people spend the season whinging and whining about this.
In theory you offer a salary that will keep the total player expenditure within the wage cap.
In practice you offer a 1k a week salary but then throw in a house, personal expenditure budget (per day), a car (of which the fuel is paid by the club) and various incentives like a bonus for every 5 goals or assists.
These 'perks' can be written down or they can be a gentlemans agreement. Either way though its very easy to stay within the cap.
There is no doubt that in theory you could land a squad full of world class players and stay within the wage cap.
My point, stop moaning... it's one of those grey areas, loopholes that we deal with. Staying within the cap is easy.

Which ever one of us wins the most next season will automatically be assumed to have broken the wage cap so the losing team is entitled to a summer of bitching about how cheated they are and how unfair the world is. Deal ?? ;D

Coventry's been offering university places for a couple of years now and nobody seems to have had a problem with it...now the Steelers do it...
I don't see the difference between offering a university course and a fancy house and car. After the contracted salary lots of 'benefits' can be offered, and always have been.

Staying within the cap is easy. ;D The problem is, the further teams with money push the wage-cap limit, the further behind the teams on a tighter budget fall. As a club we're only doing what others like Coventry and Cardiff have been doing for a few years now, but that doesn't make it right. As far as I'm concerned all that happens with a University place is that instead of the sponsors (the University) giving the club money to pass onto the players, effectively the University are paying the players directly (through courses). Is that right/fair? I can't answer that, it's upto the rest of the teams in the league to decide. As I said on a previous thread, my concern is if teams like Hull/Edinburgh/Basingstoke don't like the loopholes that are currently being exploited we may end up finding ourselves with a very small league in the not too distant future. I've got a feeling we'll see less shock results next season with the likes of Hull/Edinburgh winning fewer games against the top four.....I guess time will tell. Regards Doom
