Sucker punched twice in the 2nd.
Much better in 3rd.
Unlucky in the end, but give away 3 cheap goals and that’s what you get.

SOG 48 v 14 Weninger SV% - 95.83 Rok SV% - 78.57 On the plus side restricting them to 14 SOG is a good sign. And we learnt from last night when they had nearly 40. But then letting 3 of them in... Guess Rok's a bit rusty still? Couldn't make the game so can't comment but maybe others can say whether the goals were particularly high percentage chances? To put that in perspective Robinson was 94.59 SV% last night. On 14 shots that would have meant a less than 1 goal and a win.

Looked poor in transition a lot of turnovers , a lot let go tonight refs could have helped our game by calling a little bit letting as much go as they did absolutely played into Manchesters game plan . Storm played a solid road game very physical , they wanted to bully Panthers and for two periods they did . But of naivety perhaps after beating blaze and then scoring 3 last night and essentially coasting it the rest of the game ? Perhaps thought they would bag a bunch a little later then panicked when 3 nil down . Positives looked very good at bits in the third and stood up for themselves more , showed more of a fight back than we have expected from Panthers of recent years .
Got to work on our passing movement and transition out of our zone or we are going to find it difficult.

Because of my interest in stats, I feel its like last year too for the Elite. Nottingham's GRS was perfect tonight but being told that Manchester's net man returned for the last 14 seconds (of Saturdays game) by one of our officials to then see that time not added to the figure (58.47 still on the sheet) given as Weninger's GRS is poor. It's basics at the least and now missing on the OFFICIAL stats. May be changed but if we can't get these things right what's the point of all these fancy stat things just brought in on the Elite OS. Moan over.

Really disappointing. The naivety of the turnovers beggars belief. Especially when they players coming out of the box and two breakaway goals scored. Not too concerned about Rok save percentage as he got left hanging. Also got dominated by Ulett and didn’t really have a response which was the worry pre-season. Also the powerplay needs serious work.
On the plus side we did outplay them and if we were a bit slicker and more clinical we would have been out of sight earlier and third period showed that.
Couple of things I noticed.
Caruso seems to have aged 5 years over the summer. He was so slow it looked like he was skating through treacle.
And Ryczek was described in the summer as Brassard mk2. Unfortunately there may be something in that. One of the main culprits for turnovers

The first was pretty even, the 2nd was a horror show and the third we looked really good!
But yes that 2nd period we were bullied all over the ice,Storm knew we had no answer and it rattled us and we made mistakes.
Hopefully learn a lot of lessons from this.

Interesting move to pull the goalie with 3 mins left, instead of waiting til the last minute as per normal. S'pose the thinking is that if you concede then you've got more time to try it again

Our fears in pre-season materialised tonight unfortunately. Loren Ulett was the motm for Storm by a country mile imo, check after check after check, disrupting our attempts to maintain possession and cycle the puck in their zone, injured Betteridge with a hit plus cross check to the back, just an all around nasty piece of work. I think he got in our heads ultimately. The refs let Storm play that way and we fell apart in the second
Is tonight’s match a good enough example that we need to add another body who will keep players like Ulett honest? I believe it is. There is no shame in adding to the squad to improve it and to create competition

Crap, you can hall the excuses you want in the bag. The first two periods were shocking.
First home league game and you would think to get some explosion from the face off but, nothing the coach got this terribly wrong. Way to cautious.
So many turnovers, back checking was non existent and we got bullied big time.
Not good enough at all.

The first period was strange, fair bit of possession but nothing to show for it; a number of shots on goal but nothing whilst the 4 manchester had looked like scoring chances. The 2nd was a complete s...show, allowing two breakaway goals and a simple tap in from an unmarked man at the back door. The two breakaway goals, Stojanovic got part of and had he been a bit quicker at closing the pads they wouldnt have trickled over the line. Lots of effort in the 3rd but no result. Officials letting stuff go and manchester played to that using it to their advantage. Not a great game for the season league opener at home.

Goals from the game for anyone that hasn’t seen
All 3 stem from giving up the puck and being hit on the break. 3 different culprits.
Rok will be disappointed with the first 2, which went through him (albeit exposed 1 on 1).
Highlights don’t show it, but Johnson increasingly tried to do it alone in the 3rd. Good that he was up for it and tried to make things happen, not so good that it’s a team game and the solo efforts didn’t result in a goal.
It was one way traffic in p3 and wouldn’t have been undeserved if we had levelled it.
Early days though. Still far better than anything I saw last season.

Anyone else notice the behind the net replay of their goal 1 is actually from their goal 2? And is repeated for goal 2, unsurprisingly.
