Indeed. Looking forward to seeing the team, and how they play.

Just don't want any injuries, didn't Sheffield injure one of our guys last season? Caruso?

Just don't want any injuries, didn't Sheffield injure one of our guys last season? Caruso? Sort of the glaring issue in my eyes of what is wrong with playing pre-season games against your biggest (supposedly anyway) domestic league rivals. It was better, for the few season we did it, in getting teams from other leagues in. It was better for the fans to see a different team and it would put the Panthers up against a team where there was no pre-existing animosity or reason to take chunks out of each other.

Not sure I buy this any more. (Hence Simmsy's rantings the other day, trying to rekindle an old flame) The rivalry in terms of knocking 7 bells out of one another is dead, effectively. Last season, there were only 88 PIMs in total in the 6 league games between Panthers and Steelers last season, below average for all games played. The series vs Fife, Dundee and Cardiff were far feistier (130+PIMS in all 3). Any injuries are likely to be entirely coincidental. Players get injured in warm up/training as well. I'd perhaps like to see some different opposition, but it will all come down to cost/willingness in the end.

I’m not saying that the game(s) against Steelers will be an early 00’s style slug-fest and heavily laden with penalties, but as a pre-season game it’s an easy way to stick in a few cheap shots, rack a few slashes across wrists etc and do a bit of harm to a league rival before the season begins. Especially like you’ve raised, when the club representatives are building up the rivalry again and those brand new to the league and history are susceptible to being influenced to getting carried away and overzealous. Go back to playing against Asiago for example in 2012, it was a good fan spectacle seeing an unknown team come in and play, at that time the leagues and teams were comparable, it was exhibition stuff where both teams could use it to test the water, build chemistry and play without the added pressure of trying to one-up each other. Doesn’t always go that way of course, for no real known reason when Krefeld came over it did turn into a feisty affair with a few fights, but then we were competing with a level above and both teams had a couple of enforcers wanting to do their own preparations too.

The two Sheffield preseason fixtures are just a blatant cash grab.

The two Sheffield preseason fixtures are just a blatant cash grab. Only if you want to pay full whack to watch a pre-season game. Which I don't. That said, those that do, that's up to them. As above, I'm interested to see the attendance. Full arena, raring to go, or loads of space as people save money? That's why I'm going to Sheffield and not the NIC. Far more bang for the buck.

The two Sheffield preseason fixtures are just a blatant cash grab. Yes but one will be a very successful execution of a cash grab and the other one not so much

Agree there I've chosen the Saturday absolute no brainer 8,000 and it will probably be more intense the Sunday game as players will be out to impress

Players will be in for a shock then on Sunday after being told we get a sold out arena. After visiting Sheffield and 8000+ crowd to ours half full. Not sure if its the arena that have set the prices or finance Freddie (because the arena costs have increased) but can't help thinking we've missed a trick here to even entice 'new' supporters.

I dare say the players are used to playing pre-season matches in front of much smaller crowds. In fact, playing at sheffield if it's a big crowd will be quite a shock.

Where have you been there the last few years. Panthers steelers have been drawing 8,000+ crowds for years

They haven't missed a trick, they charge £25 because of pure greed, nothing to do with rental costs else how do steelers make it pay charging £8+ booking fee for a game ? I'd say Sheffield arena rent is more anyway

It’ll be finance Freddie who sets the ticket price, the arena only care about their rent and not how Panthers make their money

Politics relating to off-ice matters with Nottingham and Sheffield continue unabated. Totally different management mindsets - you decide who gets it right most of the time when comparing the respective attendance figures from this coming weekend. Now, on the ice it's a free hit for everyone trying to predict winners and losers. To hell with it. Here is game 1 of the new campaign and here is the forecasted final score. Steelers 4 v. Panthers 3. Let's rock and roll. First blood to the "Tango-men".

Do we know if Panthers have a full roster available? The Panthers have a full roster to choose from so will name their lines and two netminders ahead of the 7pm face-off. Thirteen outskaters are set to make their Panthers debut tonight, while either Rok Stojanovic - against his former club - or Mike Robinson will get the start in goal.

Won’t be going this weekend either. It’s unimaginative to be playing them.
Had it been a non EIHL team, and priced sensibly, I probably would have taken the opportunity to see the new lads.
Quite clear that others also think that way, so the attendance will probably tell the story.

I’ve gone and done it. Purchased the Steelers TV stream. Must be some expectation.
