all clubs benefit from POFW I'd imagine that's the main reason for POFW continuing, do the clubs that often don't make the weekend rely on the income it generates to cover season losses, if revenue is evenly split? A CC Weekend might cover it, but if it wasn't the final centerpiece occasion of the season would as many show up? Cup Final Day didn't really take off (are we still doing that?). I'd quite like to see it, but can see why they'd be nervous about mucking about with the golden goose.

Yes, the POFW is a big earner for "the league", but the league is the sum of its clubs, so if the clubs made more money from play off games in their own rink, the subsequent "subs" to the league would be higher? And let's not forget, all clubs benefit from POFW, I believe, but those that miss the playoffs wouldn't in a "best of" scenario, but would presumably still have to pay the higher "subs"? You said it above, college hockey operates the "Frozen Four" style playoffs, so it's not unknown in NA. Rare, yes, but not unknown. Let's not also forget that most NA teams would I believe, be a "core tenant" in their arenas and thus have the clout to hold dates for potential playoff games, whereas maybe not so much in the UK? (This is an educated guess on my part here, happy to be corrected) All NHL arenas are entertainment venues and hold numerous concerts etc so even if they are privately owned they still have other events on so that's doesn't wash either

If we have to put on a weekend just to prop up the crap teams then what future is there ? The future is the next weekend's arena home attendance. Everything else is to prop up that happening.

If we have to put on a weekend just to prop up the crap teams then what future is there ? The ISL. A 5 team "league". Then nothing.

Why can’t they have best of three in the play offs and still share out overall revenue between all the ten teams. The answer is....because certain people don’t like sharing even for the good of the whole EIHL. That’s the top and bottom of it !

And that had nothing to do with the running of the league either.. hell they had decent sponsorship a very good TV deal with sky and a disciplinary panel .. it was owners own greed which wrecked it.. many spending beyond their means ! But let's not go there eh

In fairness Todd always wants what’s best for the success of the league in general, that means all teams, what’s best for fans, and what’s best for players. It’s very difficult to fault Todd he wants what’s best for everyone, and is one very clever dude along with being a great person.

Yes it seems a dream. Challenge Cup dates followed by the league (with a CC weekend fitted in) then a better style play-offs at the end of the league. The games throughout the CC and its 'weekend' would constitute a lower number of games in the actual league so as also to have a better play-offs.
