I don't see how you re- schedule play-offs from an unfinished league either. Just finish the league later?

Teams will have different players after April, as contacts will expire and they have to sign new ones. Some teams may no longer exist !!

Apparently The Play Offs are going to be rescheduled. Personally I don't see how. Possible smokescreen I think it's just bad wording in rushing to get an announcement out. Which is fair enough considering. I would imagine they want to go down the route of the magic weekend, challenge cup weekend idea. Bang out a quick release today saying more news next week to allow then time to think and put some details together. Probably means tickets purchased remain valid for the event, but if you want a refund you can have one. Cant see it actually being play offs They can’t reschedule it this year,80% of the players will have gone home. 🙄 I know says the EIHL “we’ll keep all the play off money earning a bit of interest for six or seven months, then give them a little crap show of a tournament at they start of the next season”......”good idea yup,the mugs will fall for that’. 🙈🤣

Panthers bring forward the awards night, and invite all ST holders to attend FOC. Am I alone in thinking that it isnt a good idea, even allowing for recent guidelines, to encourage a potentially large crowd to gather like this.

It’s a bloody stupid idea, they should have cancelled it.

No wonder they’ve bought it forward, some of our players are already looking at flights to go home, apparently they are only paid for two weeks so they won’t hang around if there’s no wages.

It'll probably get increasingly hard to travel abroad in the next few weeks especially. I'd be off ASAP, certainly wouldn't wait for an awards night...

Yep, Trump has already said he is looking to ban flights from the UK soon too.

Lots more to worry about in the world at the momment but the way the players are handled over the next few days and weeks could be pivitol when it comes to them decided to come back next year or not. Of course the players will also have to have some understanding that these are unpresidented circumstances, but at the same time if we dont offer enough support we could pee a lot of them off very quickly.

It is OTT but now the season is cancelled on the basis of large crowds not being a good idea it seems a bit bloody stupid to encourage just that. It’s not me that needs to make my mind up. This event is still on due to a certain somebody not wanting to lose his sponsorship money !

I made a stupid comment earlier about hoping traveling fans in Belfast make the most of their time and can meet up with Giants fans. Forgetting the obvious that public masses may not help things.

If anyone is interested BBC radio Sheffield did a one hour program about hockey this afternoon between 3 and 4 which you should be able to replay. The first 15mins is Tony Smith talking about why the decision to end the season was taken. I know it has a Steelers bias but he is chairman of the league.
WARNING: TS is followed by Dave Simms so if you listen be ready with the mute button.

They'll still be able to go, but how many flights will there be? Time to shift arse lads. Edit - Tuesday, not Monday.

I don't see how you re- schedule play-offs from an unfinished league either. Just finish the league later? Very interesting debates in as regards this question and in many sports. The government had not made it definite that sports/clubs had to stand down but being sensible the governing bodies of sports drew the season to a close. On football focus, there were several options discussed and I think to 'void' the season would be terrible for anyone. Stats and such are set in stone now and we see what we have left that needs our attention. A dilemma in how we address 'if' anyone should be title 'given' and how, in other sports, you have promotion/relegation to sort. Not having relegation but having promotion between footballs top two leagues was mentioned but like we say we have no worries on that count for Ice Hockey. Players will be going home so different squads will be the order of the day next time we could play and if it's sooner than later the question is, can we allow these squads to finish the league and, even if in a different quick format, also play the play-offs? Personally I had Cardiff as favorites for the league title and that is our only dilemma (awarding a winner) bar what we might have chosen to be our play-off decision knowing places 9 and 10 were still not decided. EIHL OS league is showing six teams as qualified, would it be ok to say that six contest rather than eight because of an early finish IF the league is suspended AND a play-off is to be played later. Other option, all games in the league behind closed doors but with UK hockey reliant on attendance that would not happen.

Question for the historians, has there ever been a season interrupted and never finished before. I'm guessing 1939 never really got started. Has there ever been a season that started a significant number of games but never finished?
