Did my eyes deceive me or did we play it back into the crease for the equaliser?? No deception. Might has well have just had a shot and scored it ourselves.

Did my eyes deceive me or did we play it back into the crease for the equaliser?? No deception. Might has well have just had a shot and scored it ourselves. That one was horrific... I literally held my head in my hands after that one... TBH, I think that Jackson Whistle is coming in from a bit more stick than he really deserves (and I say this as someone who has never really rated him). Dundee's 3rd goal was IIRC mostly down to Whistle, but the first (a well set up cross-crease pass and shot - where was our D??) can't really be put down to him, and the short-handed breakaway is every goalie's nightmare... not really putting that one down to him all that much. And as mentioned above... our own outskaters virtually conspired with the Stars to put the 4th one past him! There was some flopping about and inelegant play on Whistle's part, and some (not all, by a long way!) of his rebounds could have done with better control... but he made some key saves, and at least two crucial poke-checks which saved our bacon. And then, of course, he did pretty well in the penalty shoot-out. The biggest downsides for me in this game were:- - our passing... which was absolutely abysmal for most of the game. Too hard, too long, too short, or just plain bad... it was excruciating to watch at times. - the face-off winning... or lack thereof. No idea of the stats on that one, but it seemed that again and again and again we just lost out in the face-off circle. Which puts us on the back foot immediately. Bright points were Perlini coming back, and Wallace keeping Malmquist on the Hanson/Herr line where he's been blossoming... looks like the chemistry is right there. Alternately excruciating and entertaining to watch, but at least we came out with the 2 points... if only ruddy just! Definitely need to do better, but it goes down in the books as a win, so there you go.

Not just you. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just kidding themselves or setting it up so they can gloat when the “expected” win isnt there.

Change the game plan by pulling whistle off Well, you never know, it’s a bit of a left field management tactic but it might catch on... I thought he did more than ok, and earned Panthers the extra point with some great stops both in the game and in the shootout. Hung out to dry far too often.

Matt Carter winner written all over it Not quite and he wasn’t all over the game, but didn’t he take his shootout goal well?

We made harder work of that than we should but ultimately the win is the main thing.
Connelly was poor and made costly mistakes today. One of the perceived top earners shouldn’t be doing those basic mistakes costing us goals, I feel these mistakes are creeping in far more regularly than we’d want so hopefully he can nip it in the bud great penalty shot however.
Tetlow isn’t ready for this level, he isn’t strong enough on his skates to guide players to safer positions and is easily outmuscled unlike our smaller players such as fick. He is still in the development stage of his career but he needs more minutes elsewhere... when we have Deutsch back at least.
Golovkovs has got to stop over skating the puck as if he is the be all and end all like he was at MK. He often misses basic passes and skates into trouble.
Whistle was good when it mattered, 3 of the 4 goals you cannot lay blame on him. He was suffering from lack of game time that was clearly evident however the defence did not alter their play at all considering him goal. He doesn’t play the puck like Carr and his style is to flop around and be unorthodox so the D have to be ready to work with that style.
Yet again it’s disappointing to give a point to the opposition from a position of control but yet again we got the job done and winning is all that matters, this character wins in pressure situation will only help us going into the continental cup and later stages of the season. Also considering so far we’re 6-1 in our 7 of 8 “festive period” games we’ve had a tremendous return compared to previous years.

My criticism of Whistle ironically isn’t for the goals he conceded bar one, it’s more the rebounds and general lack of stability he was displaying. On another day those rebounds go to their sticks and that puck trickles over etc, he just looked ugly apart from OT and the shootout where he was outstanding! So whilst we can criticise the defence for the goals, they have to be commended for dealing with the rebounds and general shakiness of the goaltender.
It was a really weird game because of this.

I felt that last nights game highlighted how important Carr is to our style of play. He’s a lot more comfortable in leaving the crease and playing the puck to take pressure off the defenders. There were instances last night where the defence looked uncertain and hesitated going behind the net to retrieve the puck, as though they were expecting Whistle to get it.
If Whistle isn’t confident in playing the puck from behind the goal we must adapt how we play.

Like I've been saying .. defences don't just play their game irrespective who's in nets.. they have to adapt and its fat from simple. All goalies have 'their' styles

Whistle looked like a goalie who hadn't played in a while on Saturday, but was excellent in OT.
Otherwise he's been good when called upon this season.

Last season Panthers 3 and 10 in games decided in OT. This season, 4 and 1 so far. Talbot or Herr have been on ice for all 4 of those, 2 of them together.

Before the match we would have expected a comfortable victory. The game was tighter than it needed it to be, BUT perhaps a gauge of the victory was that Dundee then went on to win 6-2 in Guilford the night after.

If anyone thinks any game in this year's EIHL is "easy" they're deluded. This year's EIHL is tighter than the SHL, the DEL and the Liiga.
