What a load of poo again. That’s three weeks on the trot we’ve been ‘royally entertained’............NOT!
It just shows how bad the standard of ‘top level’ (sic) hockey has become in the UK when this Panthers team is still not far away from the top. Whilst I fully accept that the performances have picked up since the shambolic early season form (it couldn’t get any worse though), the level of performance for the last 3 Sunday home games has been woeful. No wonder the crowds are diminishing - poor attendance again tonight despite all the obvious freebies in the bronze blocks.

Bloody awful result. Last nights result is for nothing without following it up with a win against one of the leagues basement teams. This inconsistency is why Panthers have won the league trophy once. And to drop the leagues in form goalie for someone who's probably got mardy and begged for more gametime! It just beggars believe. He may have made some decent stops but defences get comfortable playing in front of certain goalies and it gives them more confidence.. Unfortunately wallace will never learn Don’t blame the Goalie. Whistle made some (one in particular) tremendous saves. The last two Sundays Carr has been at fault for 3 of the 6 we have conceded.

Never mind Sunday “showdown” i think a far more appropriate headline would have been Sunday “letdown”. .....Again !! 🙄 Haven't seen you here in a while... Far better things to do than Panthers and the cage old boy. Even Groundhog Day became far too predictable.

It's all your fault, its all your fault I think I need to take the blame: "Next 3 league games we should be winning hands down plus a 4 goal lead in the cup game coming up. We might have a decent run till Christmas!" Yup, all your fault Kiev These Sunday results are very poor, as stated. I wonder if a more player-recovery-friendly face-off time might help?

A very disappointing home result again.
A few points to discuss.
Goaltending. I would have stuck with Carr in net, he played well last night and I think the team have developed a confidence in him. I don’t think Whistle was at fault for the goals but on his current form, Carr could have been a difference maker. Whistle has an opportunity to play on Wednesday where there’s less pressure.
Depth. I thought our players looked very lethargic tonight, Storm looked a lot more lively and the first ten minutes they were all over us. Why aren’t we giving Kelsall, Hazeldine and Tetlow more minutes to give the other players a rest. We’re trying to rely on the same players all the time and they’re logging too many minutes I feel.
Powerplay. Statistically we have the worst PP in the league, this needs to improve if we’re going to have any success this season. Now, Storm do have the best PK in the league, but Wallace’s persistence to play Rheault when we’re on the man advantage simply isn’t working.

Just think though, if we didn't have Sam Herr. Then we would be really struggling.

Well we used to play at 6 I think, many years ago now. I don't go on Sundays because of 4pm, so maybe the players feel similarly to me?

Followed hockey for years (mainly NHL, been Toronto for 10 days to watch Leafs) Started following Panthers this season and game over from Telford with my girlfriend and her lad to our first game.
Loved it, arena is amazing. Result was disappointing but hey ho.
We were in block 11, couple of questions.
Do Panthers sell half season tickets?
Was the atmosphere quieter today than normal? I'm guessing a Sunday afternoon against a basement team contributed to that?

Ultimatly, and i've beem banging this drum all season. Why on earth would you not play Carr. Just won in Cardiff, statistacally one of the best in the league. Just keep him going. I know it's easy to say when we lose, bit you dont win anything chopping and changing. Nobody ever has in this league. Championship teams number one plays 90% of games end of. What other team in the league would have played thier second goalie after Saturdays result? Not blaming Whistle at all, but you just dont do it. The team has to play differently witha different goalie. So frustrating to get excited by this team like last night only for the misserable Sundays to follow.

The other back ups are just there as window dressing because....well you need a back up.

No disrespect to Storm, but games like that have to be won if the Panthers are going to be there or thereabouts come March.

So because hes capable of holding his own doesn't mean he should see ice time even when Carr is in good form does it.. like Bagherra said. Championship winning goalies must play at least 90% of games. Hes spot on when he says the defence has to adjust in front of different goalies and it usually results in inviting alot more pressure on them whereas with Carr they would be more offensive.. it makes a huge difference.. what's whistles record this year.. it cant be much above .500
Well just checked them and Panthers lost 4 out of 5 games whistle has started!! That's abysmal. 87% Sv !!

Again, no fault on Whistle. But I do believe he is becoming a curse on us this year. Firstly He is obviously more expensive than Gospel and probably more than we were paying Pacl few years back. Due to this expense Wallace will feel under pressure to play him. Signing a strong back up at the start of the year bolstered our confidence especially when Carr seemed to be a bit weak statistically speaking. Who'd of thought that he would turn out to be the stand out goalie in the league? I don't believe you should change out an inform nettie. By all means do so if that form drops off. But I would have been telling Whistle "tough luck buddy, you'll have to wait it out"

I'm not sure it follows that to win the league the netminder has to play 90% of games. It's just never yet been done by a team with a "more experienced" pair of netminders, who split the load, as opposed to a "90% number 1". To me, it's a huge gamble to put all that load onto one netminder, but if they're never injured and love playing virtually every game, it can all go well. Once it doesn't, though... The EIHL is pretty unusual in the way it works its goalies.
Whistle's stats are 3-1, 1.51 GAA and 94.34% SP in 4 games in the Cup, so let's not start any of this "he's crap" cobblers. Frankly, I think he should've played a bit more this season, if anything. 5 of 24 league games isn't enough? Panthers are 1-4-1 now in the league on Sundays at home. 12 goals for, 17 against. That's not Whistle's fault, he's only been in for one of them.

How you play a hot goalie is a subject of much debate. Do you ride them until they have a bad game? (Cue wailing and gnashing of teeth that you played them one game too long) or do what several enlightened investment managers I read about say, which is broadly, "If you do well, sell almost immediately. The roll won't necessarily carry on. Bank the wins, get back to square one..."

The bottom line is they should keep a settler side together.. like been said time u change the nettie and that changes the dynamics of the systems etc. But its conveniently getting over looked ..

The bottom line is they should keep a settler side together.. like been said time u change the nettie and that changes the dynamics of the systems etc. But its conveniently getting over looked .. The reasons why not are almost certainly 1. teams have largely got away with it so far (look at the stats of the last few EIHL league champs)*, and 2. if a goalie is injured (or similar) after the signing deadline, you're allowed to sign another. (I'm pretty sure on this, please correct me if wrong) There's no real incentive to sign a "non Brit, EIHL quality" (in quotes, for the sake of argument) back up/#2 netminder if you don't want to, knowing that if something does go pear-shaped, you just need to make a phone call or two. 2018-19 Besko played 54/60 games 2017-18 Bowns played 51/56 2016-17 Bowns played 46/52 A netminder playing 90ish% of his team's games is very unusual in most leagues. Compare to say the DEL2 (a broadly comparable league) where championship goalies have played as follows (EP.com) 2018-19 No one goalie played more than 23/52. 2017-18 No one goalie played more than 27/52. 2016-17 One goalie played more than 46/52. (This is EIHL like, yes, but seems to be the exception) 2015-16 No one goalie played more than 41/52. Most other leagues in the world seem to be OK sharing the netminder load, and the D "adapt" (if they even have to, I'm not sure they really do?). I don't buy that changing Carr for Whistle changes any significant "system dynamics" at all. All other positions are interchangeable shift on shift throughout the game, they don't seem to make much difference? Some goalies like to play the puck, some give up slightly more rebounds, but the idea is the same. As to the point about keeping a settled side, only 9 of Panther 23 league games after game 1 have featured the exact same skaters and goalie as the one before. Only 5 of those 9 have seen Panthers win.
