This guy wont help the team move much up the table .. This guy doesn't fit on the top 6 of Sheffield, cardiff or Belfast .. It's the Jacobs money, doesn't stretch to top line wages.... Then who the hell is getting top line wage? Nobody apart from Herr deserves them? Where has that money gone? Have we shed a massive part of our budget on Lepine and Rehault? If so they should have been negotiated down to the bare minimum after their showing last season? Seriously I’d like to know what players are hoovering up this huge budget we apparently have as O’Connor and Dowd will be on huge wages for starters in Sheffield and I don’t think J Phillips will be cheap either.... that’s before you look at some of the players on their roster.

I suspect the bigger money will have gone on the defence. If i were to guess i'd say the big earners are Herr, Bulmer, Perlini, Betteridge, Deutsch, Connelly, DeSantis and Matheson

Is the new guy arriving on a temp visa as if he is coming directly from the continent he won’t have a full season visa and will have to pop off in 3 months to get a visa sorted.

It's really is quite simple. The bar is set by our rivals. People want players at a level signed by the likes of Cardiff, Sheffield and Belfast. Nobody is looking at CVs of players that would be out of reach for those teams. Those teams also manage to pick the players required at any point in the season when needed. The players are there and this is the perfect time of year to pick them up. is Sandstrom of the same quality as MSP? No, and i never mentioned replacing a leaving player like for like. Sheffield have been scoring goals for fun so didn't need to go and sign a top 6 forward. They got what they needed. They've spent the extra money on bolstering their injury depleted and generally weak D. And they did it in a timely manner to.

Uninspiring.... good luck, Jake. This guy wont help the team move much up the table .. This guy doesn't fit on the top 6 of Sheffield, cardiff or Belfast .. Exactly. It's the best yard stick we have to measure against. Our top 6 forwards should be on par with those teams. If they dont look like theyd get close to their top 6 then they arn't good enough for ours. Hansen isn't a bad signing at all. His CV is decent. Sign him in the summer with the other places being of the right level then i'd be more than happy with him. He still looks good enough to contribute. The fact is we need studs at this point.

Some people really do need to lower their expectations as to the quality of goal scorers we are able to sign. Realistically how many are on the market currently? I’d guess not many and then you have to factor in how much money they want and whether they are willing to come to this league and to this team in it’s current situation nope. I’m sorry but you need to raise your expectations.

Now how realistic is it that there’s a 20+ goal scorer from a higher league than ours that is currently available? I’d say unlikely but if there are players of that quality then they are surely going to be snapped up by teams who are in higher leagues than us and also in the same situation (short on goals). I expect Panthers to sign the best player possible and a player that fits in with our squad and I personally don’t think we’ll be able to get that type of player at this time of year but I’ll be happily proved wrong

Yes we do but its easier said than done. What "studs" are going to be available at this time of year? They'll be few and far between i'd guess and the few that are available would be sought after and possibly by bigger teams from bigger leagues so what do you do then? Wait and play short benched until one comes along? Its not always that simple though either. Brett Bulmer should be considered a stud with his NHL/AHL/Liiga CV but is doing badly. Same can be said for St. Pierre who was lauded as the signing of the summer

Uninspiring.... good luck, Jake. This guy wont help the team move much up the table .. This guy doesn't fit on the top 6 of Sheffield, cardiff or Belfast .. You never know, though, do you? Easier to just write him off before he's even pulled a shirt on, then, despite his very good CV/experience. You'll probably be "right" of course, thus you'll be happy, as he won't score 50 goals and 100 points, and thus help the team move up the table, as even if the team do move up the table, there's no way of pinning it on him alone. And he doesn't play for Cardiff/Belfast/Sheffield, so you're already right there. (Even though the above is just your opinion, not a fact.) Thank God Panthers didn't sign a 21 year old with no pro or even major junior experience and a paltry 20 goals in 67 NCAA games the last 2 years. Hang on, isn't that the guy leading the Giants in scoring? He seems to fit nicely in the Giants top 6, goodness only knows what you would've made of that signing in the black and gold in the summer...

Well our wages are not at the level of the 'top three' we all know. They truly aren't.
So where has the money gone... Fair question. I know Garnett's wage was pretty insane, he was the highest earner the past two seasons. So you can forsee Lepine definitely being nearish to that & possibly Rehault as well... But there is a deal with Loughborough Uni over their wages/courses I believe so it's an incentive to get them here... if they are the 'correct player' then ideal I guess.
As for the rest.... well take your pic of the mediocrity. If you believe NB it's been wasted by GD, which sounds very harsh & a total blame game imo.
The money simply isn't there. Expecially not to compete at a certain level.

Also, have GD's wages come out of the on ice budget as well?? If yes then we're a player down money wise right from the off... But you can also counter that by saying that TW is being paid to coach only & CN/RC were being paid for both roles as 'team manager'.
In my financial experience whenever you water one role in to two you pay far more for the pleasure.

Welcome to Nottingham Jake. Takes us back to 'full 'import quota. Decent player but in my humble opinion not what we need, though definitely an upgrade on Jakobs. Convenient day to announce his signing though. Yesterday Neil Black does his Facebook interview & blames Doucet for bad recruitment (justifiably or not) & claims not to know of any incoming signings... then lo & behold Jake lHansen is announced the following day, conveniently drawing attention away from himself & yesterday's interview comments Are you seriously telling me that our esteemed owner wasn't aware of Hansen's signing especially as he was in town & as such you'd think he'd make at least a fleeting visit to the office to see how things are. Assuming Hansen required a work permit then this signing would have been in the works for several weeks. Any half decent boss would want to be kept upto date on the day to day operation of his/her business. Hopefully Jake will help spark the team on a scoring spree.... well I can hope...

Just what i was thinking. If Black truly didn’t know about Hanson’s signing yesterday then he’s very badly out of touch.....or alternatively he’s a liar. I’ll take the latter option as my guess.

Wish Hansen all the best but no exactly set my pulses racing. Think he will turn out to be another Panthers journeyman and not the star performer needed who can dominate a game and inspire the fans. A 3 out of 5 on the Grapes Signing Scale.

It's still early days yet, but I think he has started well. I agree, he’s been a good addition, he’s got speed and he definitely puts the work in. He’s already developed some chemistry with Golovkovs which is great for the both of them.

A 3 out of 5 on the Grapes Signing Scale. So far, in 5 games, he has 4 goals. Which makes him, in 5 games, the second top goal scorer on the team. I'd say so far he's worth a 4.5?

From what I have seen so far, he looks a very good pick up.

Not the not thrilling or entertaining player but cannot fault his early goals record for the team. Come on you Greens !

Not the not thrilling or entertaining player but cannot fault his early goals record for the team. Come on you Greens ! Depends what you find entertaining. He’s a team first player. Not only is he scoring, he’s backchecking aggressively, smart in his own D zone and giving Golokovs an outlet for all his hard work. I also think he’s giving Malmquist a lot of confidence. And that thrills me because he’s been a massive catalyst in the upturn. I doubt he’ll score every game the rest of the season but if he can help build the confidence of those around him to score, that’ll be more valuable than anything else he’s done.
