Sack Quist and Jakobs and sign a actual first line. Only chance we have to win anything this year.

I hope all you commenting on the performance actually attended, you have no right to an opinion if not remember. Yep, I bought tickets before last weekend, didn’t want to go after last night, was expecting very little. Was content with how we’d played until the last 5 minutes. I was pleased with the performance of the defence, we utilised the offensive talent we have on the blue line, which we haven’t done enough so far imo. I thought the following forwards played well - Malmquist (needs to continue playing centre), Herr, Golovkovs, Betteridge, Lacho, Hazeldine and Kelsall, but as a group they were still wasteful. Unfortunately, Jakobs, Quist and Bulmer aren’t bringing what we thought they would, I think we will see AT LEAST one of them released. Sheffield were poor tonight but we failed to takes advantage of their weaknesses, the amount of odd man rushes and two on ones which they gifted to us and we threw away is startling. We defended well overall but Sheffield’s 2nd goal was dioboical game management from Quist and Matheson, why they were so intent on playing catch at the blue line is beyond me, they made themselves look like a bunch of amateurs, you could see what was coming as soon as that 2nd went in.

I wonder if Black knows how tonight's game went? He’s probably not bothered, he was supposed to attend last night but cancelled at the last minute.

This "rebuild" business, is this a fan invention or has someone official spoken about it at some point?

You also don't build your castle on the sand. And it shouldn’t take SIX YEARS either !!! I remember Corey saying after we won the treble that it was time to build a dynasty. That seems a lifetime ago. It has been admitted that the investment didnt happen after that. Its the continual promises and excuses that irritate from the pompous NB.

There's no such thing as a rebuild in a league like ours. We're just trying something new. Unfortunately so far, it isn't particularly going to plan, but at least this will ensure we see what Doucet and Wallace are made of and whether we can expect them to be the right people to take us forward. I'm not happy with how things currently are, but it's still only the start of October so there is plenty of time for us to turn things around. We just need to start acting quickly now.

This "rebuild" business, is this a fan invention or has someone official spoken about it at some point? It’s been discussed by the fans. Doucet and Wallace have made comments about wanting to win it all, as you’d expect, but they’ve quite obviously not been given the budget to realistically achieve that. This is the reason why fans are stating this a rebuild season, but it shouldn’t be, we should at least be challenging. Realistically, we are 2, maybe 3, game changing forwards away from challenging, there’s still time to make a go of this season, we need more investment though, but will the calibre of player we need be available at this stage without being overly expensive? Whatever happens, 5 losses in a row is simply not good enough and it’s already obvious that something needs to change. The only saving grace is this weekend has been in the cup.

Cup weekend, rebuild season, call it what you will but a combined league and cup record so far of 4 wins and 7 losses does not auger well unless big changes are made quickly.

Hardly hockey story of the century, is it? Team has 2 goal lead ("Worst lead in hockey"), away, in the last 5 minutes of the match. They concede a horrible shorty, which gives the opposition a huge boost, said opposition then score a GTG with their nettie pulled. OT/pens are a crap shoot, could go either way. Happens every week somewhere in hockey.
Could Panthers have done better? Very much so, they'll be hugely disappointed not to bring it home with 2 points. Should we all give up and never watch hockey again (easier for some than others)? No, I don't think so. Would I like to see some changes to the team? Yes. Will they be made? Time will tell.
In the midst of all that, and lost in all the hand-wringing and chest-beating, can we all congratulate Joe Hazeldine on his first point for the club?

It's been said a million times. While he makes money nothing will change. This argument doesn't always hold water.. so what you're saying any sports team which makes money doesn't care what happens on the playing surface then? and doesn't look to be the best then? As long as they are making profit or is this an exclusive rule to Blacky?

As long as they are making profit or is this an exclusive rule to Blacky? It does @pidge. Black seems to be happy with us just being a cash cow. Some other sports teams are dependent on success, others purely on survival. your counter argument doesn't hold water. Steelers fan base crave success but also winning the right way. they were successful under Matsos but played boring trap hockey and people stayed away. For me Panthers are in the situation that we will have more "pre night out" fans in the stands, purely from the rink location. This season with us not playing as many Saturday night games, might alter this, so we may see a dip in attendances (on average) especially if we are not playing well. This may drive NB to make alterations next year... he may realize that winning things = more fans. For me, the "rebuild" is possibly apt. If GD and TW meet the goals that NB has set them on this lower budget - (do well in Conti cup?) then next year they will get a bigger pot of money.

I don't buy all this "pre night out" stuff that people believe that Panthers depend upon. You may get a few but if that was the case then the attendances wouldn't be as consistent and reliable as they are. The majority i still believe are season ticket holders and regular fans

You may get a few but if that was the case then the attendances wouldn't be as consistent and reliable as they are. The majority i still believe are season ticket holders and regular fans you could be right, but from our block (11) it seems that the volume is there. It could be these people are made of money, can afford to have 10 pints at Panthers each week then go out so should be classed as normal fans. For me, you pay your money you do what you want (within reason) its the same argument i have for the "happy clappers" (shudder - hate that term) who moan at people who decide to boo a poor performance. or the "moaners" who want have a go for some who want to clap the team off the ice despite a poor performance. The issue is, NB has previously (citation needed.) said he doesn't want ST holders, just walk ups, due to the higher profit margin on a game day ticket. this should be the biggest indicator of his intention re money. If memory serves we have the earliest ST "early bird" deadline, earliest deadline full stop
