Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Panthers roster after the first few week of the season? Myself i've only seen the home game vs Steelers and highlights from other games and looking forward to seeing them again on home ice. Just going by what i've seen and heard so far the positives seem to be :-
Herr, Deutsch, DeSantis, Matheson seem to be excellent pick ups at this stage. Perlini and Betteridge seem to be on fire. Apparent improvement from Rheault and Lachowicz
Jakobs, Golovkovs, Loiseau and Malmquist not having as much of an impact at this stage?
What are the thoughts on Kevin Carr?
Does anyone disagree with any of the above or have anything else to add?

I've not seen them at all yet, bar highlights (got my Clan tickets though), but I'm very happy with them. There's no one who's notable by their absence on the scoring. Plenty going in at the end you want, and not too many at the other.
Herr does seem to be the pick of the bunch.
I suppose there's a slight worry about Bulmer being suspended again already, but we'll see how that goes.
Big caveat is, of course, that I'd probably have written exactly the same every season for the last however many years. This time last year we were world beaters. You always have that question mark with Panthers, see where we are when the quiz night season has kicked in proper.

I like where we are at right now. Theres room for improvement but nobodies winning anything in September.
Our loss in Fife bugged me but Fife will turn over teams in there all season. It was probably a bit of a shock for some of the newbies to play in there. No amount of words can prepare you.
As Yotes has said, everyone who we expect to have points on the board has. I fully expect us to get better as we go on as I think players will buy into what Wallace wants. But it's also a learning curve for him and one I hope we'll stick at.
Herr has been a superb pick up and a gem in the team. Matheson has been unreal and I m hoping the others will start to find their feet properly soon and put together a good sequence. A tough start on the road won't help but id rather have it now than Novemebr/December time. Hopefully when we become homers, we'll see the fruit to these labours.
a 7/10 start for me. Same record as the big spending Steelers and I think people would have took that at the start of the season based on on paper rosters

Happy so far, I agree there is room for improvement and I think we’ve got the players that are gonna work hard to improve. Also if there’s any truth to the rumour that we could be signing a player straight out of the SHL then that’ll create more competition for game time and hopefully elevate performances

I like what i see. I love the effort levels and seems like there are some decent players that we could hopefully build a team around.
I do feel that as the season goes on as teams gel more our lack of pure quality upfront will show. But id already acepted that in my head so as long as we have a team that fights and works hard im happy.

The reality is that for every past season I can remember Panthers have started the same. Always looking great and i'm full of optimism. Last season I think took a lot out of me though. I bought into the new era thing with a new coach etc. The season started well, and then same old same old. Plenty of positives from the new new era, but I find it almost impossible to get too excited at this point. I'd love to feel that way, but I just dont. A few months of the same and hopefully that'll change.

Pretty much the same here. Liking the work ethic and they seem to have taken to Wallace so far and buying into how he wants Panthers to play..
Very impressed with the back end.. lots more offence and transition..
Only negatives at the moment
Jacob's seems to be struggling abit hes a decent player but doesn't get involved as much and have the same impact as quist for example..
Face off winning really needs to improve. We could have done with a playmaking centre who's a specialist.

Far too early to tell much yet, but so far face offs are, it seems, a bit of a concern. Only Loiseau is winning more than he loses. The other 3 centres (Lacho, Perlini and Ollie) are converted wingers? Lacho, whilst so far seemingly a man reborn, under Wallace, is 8 for 32 so far in the league. That needs to improve.

If there is any truth to the rumour that we are bringing in another forward then I would hope it is a centre. As you’ve highlighted with the points you’ve made, we could do with bolstering down the middle.

Surprised you've not mentioned Connelly. I think he's been superb so far.

It’s tough to make detailed opinions after a few games but I’d say:
Negatives-
• Physicality and aggression of the team - In the away games in Cardiff, Sheffield and even Fife, I felt like we struggled to cope with the physicality and aggression that they brought on the forecheck. Apart from Lepine and Tetlow I feel like the defence could have been more aggressive and combative.
• Faceoffs - As has been discussed we don’t seem to have a centre that excels in the face-off circle, not helped by the fact we’ve got Ollie and Lacho playing that position after playing on the wing in previous years.
Positives-
• Work Ethic and Attitude - So far all the players have played how you’d expect them to, unlike in previous seasons where we’ve had players who seemed as though they’re weren’t giving there all for the team. It seems as though the effort is there and the players are buying into what Wallace wants.
• Squad Depth - In all three departments we’ve got the ability to rotate whilst maintaining the quality. For a league campaign, where injuries are inevitable, having this ability is going to be a massive benefit.
• Quality on Defence - I feel like this is our biggest strength. Connelly is exactly what we expected, a silky, smooth skater and his ability to skate out of trouble in the D-zone is great to see. Matheson is similar, he’s so calm and composed on the puck, not the quickest but his positioning makes up for this. Deutsch is one of the players who came with a bit of uncertainty but he’s more than impressed so far, he’s got a great release and he’s got the speed to compliment Matheson at the back. DeSantis and Fick are solid two-way dmen, whilst being more than capable of playing the more defensive role in the pairings. Tetlow and Lepine as the 6th and 7th dmen show the quality we have, they both bring a more rugged, physical game and will be vital against the more aggressive teams.

FYI, the SHL rumour has been moved to it's own thread in rumours.

For Me win home games and average a point a game on road games and that’s the sign of a good team. Admittedly we are only 3 road games in but Guildford and Fife particularly are no mugs and to get a 66% points return will do very nicely at this point of the season.
Yes I’m aware Steelers have a 100% road return but losing any points at home is always a big loss.

I hope Wallace has the attitude that winning is massive at home, not necessarily how you play. Give me a scratchy win over an entertaining OT loss any day.

Offense does seem to be the big weakness so far. Still all to play for yet as all teams appear to be inconsistent at best so far. Sheffield have the opposite problem, all of their forwards are scoring but their defence and goalies are sieves. Cardiff/Belfast both with surprising early defeats. Too many Panthers forwards not contributing at the moment though. We all thought that scoring might be our problem but Jakobs/Loiseau/Malmquist/Quist/Bulmer not really putting any points up and that is too many. Herr/Perlini/Betteridge/Rheault doing better but we need some more secondary and primary scoring for that matter

Offence and Defence seem to be our problem in Cardiff, think all teams will get better and that this season will be a cracker.

Skill looks good. Size and strength do not. Early days but we must play to our strengths.

Could someone in authority please explain the role of Bulmer this term. He seems like a fish out of water with our present "style". Also, Quist seems to have less of a physical impact than a player a foot shorter and thirty pounds lighter ? Early days but my optimism is already starting to be tested.

I’ve only been to the Sunday Clan game this season and it wasn’t anything exciting that’s for sure. We lack a goal scorer and a physical edge and aggression to our game. Defensively we looked decent barring the odd bad play mostly caused by ourselves. I feel for Ollie and Herr and they were the only two who looked like they gave a schnitzel. Time for Tim to get on the phone and get a 2-3 top end players in. www.eliteprospects.com/player/6913/david-ullstrom used to Play with Tim back in his AHL days in Bridgeport. Rumoured to on his way out of Riga, put up decent numbers in the top leagues. He’d be an upgrade for sure.

What we don’t know is whether or not more funds are going to be given to Gui. Black is going to have to give the team more money if we are wanting to ADD these types of players to our squad, if Black doesn’t give up the money then Gui is going to have to look at replacing player/s and combining those wages with Loiseau’s to get the calibre of player we need.
However, if we lose another forward plus Loiseau, and only bring ONE player in, then we would have to put Hazeldine and Kelsall permanently on the 4th line for the remainder of the season.
Ultimately, I believe Black’s going to have to make more funds available if we are going to sign the players that we need.

NB wants to succeed in Europe to get into the CHL so he’s quite obviously got to open the wallet and pay for players who can deliver his wish
