Sad news. A legend in Panthers original era and a huge part of bringing Panthers back to the Ice Stadium in 1980 when he was the modern era’s first head coach.
RIP Les, thoughts with your family.

RIP Les Strongman This man was a real class act, a gentleman, and an excellent former player. I do not remember his playing days but I do remember that even into his 70s he could still run rings around much younger opposition. I do remember during a training session him out foxing Alex Dampier, and Les always played with a straight bladed stick, no curves for him. He was a great advocate of junior development and had many followed his lead we would have produced an even bigger crop of quality British players. One of the few old imports who stayed around to pass on his many skills and anecdotes. The other thing I remember fondly was the gentleness when in conversation always quietly spoken measured and with a ready smile. His sort will be sorely missed, the mould has been well and truly broken with his passing.

RIP Les. A true gentleman and Panther legend. I recall he always had a few minutes to talk hockey with you around the old rink.

One of the two original big players from the first era - now gone. This was Les round my house in my 'hockey room' before I took him round to see Jack Wallace (referee) ...he had written a foreword for me on my first book.

I never had the chance to watch Les play or to meet him but I still appreciate and understand what he did for the club we love, so I have an enormous amount of respect for him. It’s great reading all these comments from fans who witnessed what he did for the club, I think he’s undoubtedly a legend in Panthers history, and he’ll forever be in our thoughts.
RIP Les.

Such sad news. I was privileged to know Led and stay in touch since he and his family returned to live in Canada. Led was a genuine ice hockey legend but more importantly a great human being. Sincere condolences to wife Margaret and the family.
