Bye Not a patch on his dad 1996-97 isn't a patch on 2018-19 either. I'm not sad to see him go, and that isn't because I didn't like him I just feel we can do better. He was one of the better players of last season even if he was quite average, but he was on a pretty poor team. However, he's sure fallen on his feet landing with Nitra. Best of luck to him.

Think we didn't see the best of him, he promised more than he delivered, but the injury he got crashing into the boards didn't help.

Not overly sad to see him go.
I might be in a minority here, but I thought he was overrated.
Also not surprised really, bearing in mind the amount of D ‘lefties’ we’ve already signed.

I thought he was decent on a crap team. Not sure if that's a compliment, but we definitely had worse defensemen.
Good luck to him for the future.

Seemingly confirmed by his dad on twitter that they never offered him a contract for next season.
Said he wanted to come back for a few years but had to sign somewhere where they wanted him

I always thought that - barring the first few games - Olsen never really lived up to his potential. The promise was of a hard-hitting physical D-man with a killer slapshot... but we only saw that in flashes. He was a lot faster than his size would have indicated... to start with. Yes, that nasty injury pretty much closed the book on getting anything out of him last season... but to be honest, he was a bit of a disappointment before then. Whether that was his fault or that of the coaching we'll probably never know. Oh well...
Good luck to him.

Shame I would have had him back. Whilst he may not look like he was at his best our team was very poor last year, with a different coach it could have been different. Also the injury was bad so suppose never really got to see the best of Dylan. Oh well we move on, hopefully for the better.

Surely that’s more than enough for any player to show their true potential ?

Would have rather him back than lepine. So far team looks OK. Ut still lacking any kind of wow signing. Pretty much the entire team is average or decent.

Said he wanted to come back for a few years but had to sign somewhere where they wanted him Correct, no offer was made. Some rumours really are just rumours. He was told he was wanted back but never heard anything from the club, so after waiting he asked himself what was going off and they told him Doucet and Wallace didn't want him. He rejected other offers in that period, intent on returning to us. I know players come and go like day and night in sport but the way we seem to deal with players is shambolic at times. Teams who win the league tend to build a core group of guys and keep them, I'm not saying we should keep half of last seasons team but Olsen would quite easily fit into this roster we're assembling and to have a guy of his quality commit to us long term would be huge. The way the club always hyped the connection with the Olsen's 'son playing for fathers former team' etc, the respect they've shown this off-season is non-existent. I feel the club is slowly backtracking on the progress it had made.

So no offer was made then. Correct? Depends what you class as an offer. In his exit meeting he was told he was wanted back and the club would be in touch with contract details. They didnt get back to him and when he chased it up they told him he wasnt wanted. wee wee poor from Panthers, hang your heads in shame

Panthers would have reached out to certain players & said they had some kind of interest in retaining them. No contract would have been offered at that point as stated by someone on here for three players the other day.
I agree it looks like poor practice from Panthers. At least that's the way it's been painted by one side anyway.

Only just seen your posts & cant help feeling your having a dig here. yes it was me that said 3 players had been offered contracts, I have seen the response from Olsen's father so I'm not going to call him out and neither am I going to get into an argument with you, however I don't tell lies or make things up & if a player decides to word things a certain way then that's the way you take it. I posted in good faith which unfortunately turns out wasn't correct to a degree. Lets leave it there and move on.

I wish him the best of luck in Slovakia, but from a fans perspective, I'm disapointted to see him move on. Skated well for his size, was very calm and collected under pressure and had a decent shot from the blueline. Prior to his injury he was honestly one of the better Dmen in the league, and being signed by Nitra confirms that much. I have would have preferred to keep him, rather than than roll the dice on a new import. He even had a good narrative too for being at the club, the son following in his fathers footseps, there is real marketable value to that.
There aren't many players with 100+ NHL games that wash up on theses shores before 30. So while I expect his salary expectations would have been above-average, to not even offer him a contract, as Oly Olsen's tweet claims, I believe is a serious mistake. I can see a scenario where his salary expectation do not align with his output from last season, but I would have considered him a decent candidate for a uni-course enticement.
While much of the off-season remains and many signings are yet to be made, the current roster does make one question whether the money for Doucet's appointment is indeed being taken from the player wage pool.

Wasn't actually having a dig EMB, just saying that it was mentioned on here he was offered a contract when he definitely wasn't.
Every player has an end of season exit interview, no contracts were offered to any out of contract player at this time this year due to no coach/DOH being in place.

Just to add to this I really liked Olsen & would have had him back personally.... But if the intention is to play Tetlow top 6 as I believe it is then there's only room for one more natural leftie.
So you would take Connelly over Olsen in that case & possibly Matheson as well depending on which one covers the RHS slot.
