Yeah and one of the runners up were London Knights.
Perhaps there should be 3 European Competitions, with maybe the Federation Cup returning. The winner of that Qualifies for the Continental Cup, or have both the Continental Cup & Federation Cup winners get a spot in the Champions Hockey League but structure both tournaments in such a way that no country that has a guaranteed CHL spot shall gain entry to either the Continental Cup or Federation Cup. Plus teams from Kazakhstan would be banned from entering.
Basically the new format would give nations a chance who might not otherwise have Qualified for the CHL. I just want to see the sport grow across Europe.
Or in another scenario, the CHL scraps the Challenge Leagues thing and instead have a Playoff before the Group Stage with teams from nations which don't get automatic CHL qualification facing off to enter the Group Stage. Yes, it probably is another crazy idea but surely the IIHF could work with Leagues & Teams to make it work. The Qualifiers could replace pre season friendlies. If there's enough teams then why not have 3 Qualifying Rounds. Have a proper Tournament instead of what amounts to nothing more than a closed shop with only a few non Elite teams getting the chance to experience CHL action. At least this way more teams can experience the CHL atmosphere. I'd just love to see a few different teams from new nations in the CHL.

Jokerit are in the KHL these days as are AK bars of cause. Yes London got best by Munich Barons back in 2001 I think. Btw there's nothing wrong with hockey across europe. It's the eihl where it cant progress!! And gets held back by it 'boys club' mentality !

Not that I'm cynical or anything but is it a coincidence we have picked up a couple of wins in the build up to this? Priorities and all that...
I still hope for a strong showing though, if only for the fans travelling. I hope they have a great trip.
One of the thinks I can't accuse Panthers of is not taking European competitions seriously.
There was some positivity in there, I feel dirty.

This is a long shot but is anyone travelling to Stansted for the Thursday evening flight returning Monday from Billund? We're looking at hiring a mini bus if anyone is interested in joining us to keep the cost down?

Can't see it currently scheduled on either Free or Premier Sports. Could get picked up last minute.
Normally, if not being shown, they stream them on the official site for free.

Get ready for our pursuit of a coffee pot to go with the tea tray won last time out in this second rate Eurotrash tournament. Really fearful of picking up injuries in a competition that only appeals to owner Black and some of our travelling alcoholic supporters.

That's a very arrogant and contemptuous statement... not to mention insulting to the fans who travel to tournaments like this. So you don't like the Continental Cup... fine, that's your privilege. How about showing a bit of class and not letting your bile spill over onto others?

Granted it isn't as big as it used to be but it's still a heck of an achievement to win it. Automatic qualification into the CHL. Recognition across Europe. Only two teams win European Championships per season, we can be one of them. Offer me a season without European hockey or a season with the continental cup, I know which I would choose and I image the majority would also agree.

As long as it doesn’t upset the apple cart and spoil the current good roll Panthers are on then fine, have your European jaunt. But the Conti cup has a nasty habit of being a distraction and causing trouble for teams. I just see it as a second rate competition, sorry.

Where have I written off their chances? I have said it's a distraction which it is in comparison to the bread and butter of the league championship

That's a shock.. theres a reason the players they have are here in this league and not playing at a higher level.. still think Panthers will be 4th at best though ! <link>Not far to bottom of the league. Good.. Panthers will be in 10th shortly <link>And as for:- I'm hoping Panthers remain in the bottom two all season.. theres no Caps or MK to rely on being worse now.. The last time Panthers really proped up the table was back in 2001 before all social media etc so you never really got a idea of any meltdown... <link>Dear oh dear oh dear...

You've got far too much time on your hands shaggy 😂 Oh yes I did say and still think they will finish 4th.. so I guess I have written them off.. but compare the roster to the other 3 and over the course of the season it will tell. Panthers are currently on a good run but like I said let's see if they still are in january and February even eh?

The thing is though Panthers haven’t quite got the same roster now have they. Adding Hansen and Talbot in place of Loiseau and Jakobs has improved them significantly. Add in Bulmers vast improvement and that’s why they’re on a good run now. So technically Pidge was probably right to previously write them off as were plenty of others. Seven defeats on the bounce was not exactly championship form.

I'm writing this as I pack a case to go to Denmark. I know there are a few of you in here who see this as a pointless competition, against opponents who you deem to be inferior to previous seasons. So what? I started watching hockey because it's fun, and this weekend will be fun, whether we qualify or not. You never know, just like I watched the rounds in Jaca, Odense, and Ritten we might actually come through and I might get to watch my team win a European trophy again. I hope you enjoy your weekend cos I'm sure as hell gonna enjoy mine

Or both Both Pidge, it's not the same game I started watching all those years ago, but sport evolves. I enjoy it, not so much in the last couple of years because things have not been so rosy in the Panthers garden, but I'm not giving up. If I did I wouldn't have sampled the delights of the great restaurants of Jaca, or the expensive beer and the rain of Odense. I certainly would never have gone skiing like I did in the afternoon before the final in Ritten. And , I wouldnt have seen my team win a European trophy. I was there, where were you?
