Is Wallace a player coach or a bench coach? It’s not been clarified, but it would be nice if the club could do so. Player coach, he's icing. That's the current plan anyway.

This one is right out of left field. Bound to pee off the few remaining boo hiss Steeler haters but interesting.

Ah but what you have there is Jono comes up with random thought which may or may not be true. I come up with alternative random thought which may or not be true. I was just testing the water to see what would happen and exactly what I thought would happen did happen, you all believed the nice thought. Ta ta 🤣 No you were not. You were posting your usual incredibly sceptical views hoping for someone to agree as you always do. Now there are times when you have a valid point that I agree with, but you’re talking complete tripe here and everyone sees it. Being critical is fine, but you need to be reasonable at the same time.

Yes sorry Jord, thanks for the insight. What do you make of that then? What do I make of what? Wallace playing rather than being a bench coach, is he what we need? Does it mean we’ll have Strachan as our bench coach?

Wallace playing rather than being a bench coach, is he what we need? Does it mean we’ll have Strachan as our bench coach? Ah right, with you now. Apologies. Haven't seen him play so not sure tbh, although he completes the lefties if Tetlow is top six doesn't he? That's not very inspiring imo. I'd like to think we'd bring another lefty in but imports wise if we're running two netties as well then we seem a Brit short to me. Heard nothing on Strachs at all, very cloak n' dagger info wise at the mo from Panther HQ.

Ah bugger, I was on about Matheson the whole time. I was wondering why this question was asked when it's been pretty clear Matheson is icing.
Wallace is head coach only as far as I'm aware.
Think I need to go have a lie down.

I hope Wallace is a bench coach and that if we get hit with an injury crisis he and maybe even Doucet could help fill in.

Doucet won't be icing at all.

OK, guys... as amusing as it may be to bash Iginla - and, let's face it, he positively invites it - that's probably enough for now.
Can we keep this thread on topic re the signing of Matheson from now on, please?

Seems Steelers wanted Matheson back, offered him a deal. They appear a tad miffed over this one.

Good move every team needs experienced d men. Vandermeer is 39 and I didn't hear many saying he was over the hill.
Matheson is younger than that Lewing and no one has even seen him play yet.

Seems Steelers wanted Matheson back, offered him a deal. They appear a tad miffed over this one. That is at least a mildly encouraging sign if true... So we have a brand-new position of Director Of Hockey which hopefully lends itself to an improvement in the operational management. We have a new coach who has proven that he can motivate players even under very difficult circumstances, get better-than-expected performances out of them, and was wanted back by the fans of his last club. And now we have a player/assistant coach who was wanted back by his last club. All have EIHL experience - playing and/or coaching - and the latter two have worked together before. Now I know that it is still all just speculation, and that things can go badly wrong (look how hopeful we all were over the recruitment of Rich Chernomaz - oops!)... and whilst some of our more lemon-sucking forum members IMO take it way too far, we have to take it all with a pinch of salt. But even from just a slightly glass-half-full POV, the potential benefits and improvements of this coaching/management team could be quite impressive. Could. Possibly. Hopefully. Who the hell knows?

If true? How very dare you!!
It's very true, he had some European offers as well. Chose Wallace & Panthers.

Steelers told Matheson he’d have to take a pay cut to remain in Sheffield because of how much they pay Johnson and O’Connor together with the potential cost of the top level forwards they’re looking at.

They were trying to get him back on the cheap, yes. They thought he'd be heading for Europe if not them though.
