On paper, knows the league, knows Wallace, has experience. Isn’t Rick Strachan. We asked for changes. We’re getting them.
But a really left field approach this summer. 2 ex-Steelers, which personally, doesn’t bother me but I don’t even know what to make of it all right now

Quite happy with this to be honest... All our important leaders have league experience and Matheson is a quality player I've always thought

I’m more pleased with the prospect of his off-ice influence than his contributions from the blue line. But even so he is a decent enough guy to ice shifts when needed.

Hmm, bit of a wait and see for me. I just wonder if his best years are behind him now.

I really don’t know what to make of this signing. When ever we’ve played Sheffied, Matheson has always been one of their better performers. If Matheson had played for another club within the league and produced the points he had then I’d be pleased with his signing. But the fact that he’s come from the Squeelers leaves a really sour taste in my mouth.

He doesn’t play for them anymore, he plays for us.

Hmm, bit of a wait and see for me. I just wonder if his best years are behind him now. 92pts in 118 games whilst with Sheffield (including Challenge Cup) so he's still doing well even with age, but obviously it's another off-season under his belt, another year older. So perhaps he'll play a lighter role than with Steelers. He's still a good player and hopefully we get to see some of his offensive ability shine. I'm pretty happy, he's smart and very experienced.

Was a bit crap last year. But the year before he was incredible! Offers leadership too and experience of top leagues.
He did say he was thinking about retiring though. But he has been vocal about being a coach after playing.

Not for me. On the decline and is probably his last season. Maybe as a 5th 6th dman. But overall not happy.

I'm sold. I'm quite happy with it, you need your veteran presence. Now to sign Sheffield's accommodations manager.

In my eyes, if you play for Sheffield you’re the enemy, to then try and route for an enemy is tough. Off the top of my head I can remember two game wining goals he scored for them against us, and those losses really hurt, so he’s got to come in ammend that pain he’s caused. Maybe I need to grow up and start looking at our rivalry differently, but for me Ice Hockey wouldn’t be the same if I did.

I dont give a shiny poo poo if he played for Sheffield. If, in the past, we had signed the likes of Roy or Legue, most of us would have been ecstatic. Hate the club, not the player. (Unless he's a dick)

On the ice it’s not the same, but all those years of rubbing our noses in it has left an impression.

Looked his age last year after being stellar the previous season and here we are getting the year older version. If he was bench assistant coach then yes please as this means Strachen is out and that can only be a good thing.

MM got more goals than Olsen last year lol I know it's not a fashionable viewpoint, but I've always thought that the number of goals against that a defenceman prevents is far more important than the number of goals he scores (that is, after all, why we have forwards! ). And before you say it, no... I have no idea how Olsen & Matheson match up on that front. I'm not sure that anybody does. As for the signing of Matheson... I have no strong opinion either way. Probably the best course to take... after all, I was quite happy that we'd re-signed Lepine at the beginning of last season. Oops. Wait and see.
