Latest Planet Ice statement:
"As an update to our statement from May 8th at 17:45, Planet Ice has been in conversation with a number of shareholders of the EIHL with regard to a consortium that would like to ice an Elite team from Milton Keynes.
The concerns from the EIHL shareholders have been taken on board and this afternoon at 14:00 a correspondence has been sent to each shareholder which hopefully addresses their concerns."

Plenty of stuff coming out about the MK Lightning now: chasingthepuck.com/former-mkl-players-and-staff-are-speaking-out/Apparently sponsors are also heading for the door. I reckon the continued existence of the 'old' MK Lightning was a big problem for the viability of the new team. Maybe that problem is being taken care of....

I’ll be surprised if there’s not an MK team in the EIHL next season now PI have thrown their weight behind it. It’s a shame the initial PI statement was so unprofessional as they actually seem to be working very positively with the fan group. If they’d worded that statement a little better they’d have more than likely gained a lot of positive PR from the whole episode.

For a long established team like MK to come up and get the numbers so wrong in just two years is more than just a little fishy.

For a long established team like MK to come up and get the numbers so wrong in just two years is more than just a little fishy. As always, things are never as simple as that. PI owned the team right up to it's last season in the EPL, which they then sold onto the Moodys. So PI could hold part of the blame for the situation now in selecting improper owners, that being said, they could have been presented anything that would have made them feel confident to sell. Just look at the Knight farce with Belfast, who as an orginisation don't generally get much wrong.

Due diligence was poor from both PI and the EIHL but the numbers to be that far out (stories were emerging way before the end) would be more than a simple business operating problem. Things were pretty catastrophic financially very quickly.

They survived year one in the Elite League without any of these sorts of issues, as I recall, so what changed? It didn't suddenly become way more expensive surely, or did they just wear the loss?

If due diligence was done (if) then I would think it was backing pulled or not simply not happening. I would have thought that the EIHL due diligence would have been a lot more thorough than PI's but this went wrong in a big way very quickly.

aren't MK a founding member of the league and as such aloud to ice a team?

aren't MK a founding member of the league and as such aloud to ice a team? I may be wrong but I believe the MK lightning were. They have chosen to step down to the lower level. Any other team out of MK isn't the same organisation that has/had the place open on the board etc.

aren't MK a founding member of the league and as such aloud to ice a team? Milton Keynes played at the top level in 95-96 before the most recent return in 2017-18

Think this may rumble on for some time yet. Who runs NIHL? What influence to planet ice have there? How are MK Lighting going to react and take up any grievences(looking at details coming out I have no sympathy for them). Players already signed to Lighting, it appears they will be offered new deals witb the new club, but will Lightning let tbis happen. Bit of a mess really. What I dont understand is why EIHL is saying no to the new club over the old club oweing money to players.

On Twitter, this lot seem to think they can use the same name?
Anyway, sensible to try out the business at the lower, cheaper level before trying the pricey world of the EIHL.
