Why isn't Brendan Perlini involved? Despite being a dual national like his brother, he's represented canada at U18 and U20 level so is disqualified from representing GB under IIHF rules. God forbid if he ever fell to EIHL level he wouldn't be considered a brit either unlike Brett as he didn't play in the junior system over here.

Just finished the game, we just gave the Olympic Silver Medalists kittens. However that performance just gave a warning to the rest of our opponents not to overlook us.
Against Canada, just enjoy the moment that we are in this competition against the best nations In a way, the result is irrelevant but I do think we will see Whistle tomorrow.
After what I saw, I do fancy our chances against The French and Danes.
More performances like that, then some Elite League clubs may be losing some players

Ultimately, we’re in this group to try and fight off relegation.
But if we do get relegated and play like that, we will earn the respect of a lot of big nations out there. That German team had 50 goal NHL scorers, a projected first round draft pick and players who play in arguably one of the top leagues outside North America. Absolutely superb effort to be in with a shout that late into the game.
Bowns was unreal and the defence played superb around him

Following on from the clubs comments about GB v Canada - 16 games
here, a reflection upon the top tier final rounds (13 games , unsure of any other three unless challenge games - but I have found possibly 2 to 4)
Challenge 14/2/30 lost 3-16 in Glasgow (Canada - Toronto CCM representative) 15/3/35 lost 2-7 in Glasgow (Canada - Winnipeg Monarchs representative) 25/1/52 lost 0-14 in France 27/4/80 lost 5-6 in Dundee
Tournament OG 24 lost 2-19 in France OG 28 lost 0-14 in Switzerland WC 35 lost 2-4 in Switzerland WC 35 lost 0-6 " WC 36 Won 2-1 in Germany WC 37 lost 0-3 in GB WC 38 lost 1-3 in Czechoslovakia WC 39 lost 0-4 in Switzerland OG 48 lost 0-3 in Switzerland WC 50 lost 0-12 in GB WC 51 lost 1-17 in France WC 62 lost 2-12 in USA WC 94 lost 2-8 in Italy
in 94 we lost all other games
v Russia 3-12 v Germany 0-4 v Italy 2-10 v Austria 0-10
In this tournament a lot of dual nationals were used and I wasn't bothered as you could look at other teams and recognise new found citizens. This year makes it all that more special for us with our squad.

He can play for GB, but I believe he has to play here for 4 consecutive seasons because he's already represented Canada. (see the 4 year rule) web.archive.org/web/20090427153324/http://www.iihf.com/en/home-of-hockey/championships/iihf-eligibility.html (can only find an archived page atm) As for "junior system", what counts? I know people who played hockey with Brett as kids in Guildford and they said Brendan was playing then, but he would have only been around 8 years old when he went back to Canada I believe. I'm guessing it's too young to squeak in under EIHL Import rules?

TBH, I see this Canada game as something similar as to when The Panthers played the Swedish and Finnish teams when we 1st played in The CHL
I basically see it has getting all the small victories such as equilizing, pulling a Goal back, how long it will take them to score...etc.
If we can get them frustrated in any way, then that's good enough for me.
Here's hoping for a great performance (Even if the scoreline isn't)

I'm watching and understanding that possession gets results. Trouble is we ain't getting much of it. But we are trying. Usual though, hoping to go in at the end of the 2nd 0-4 but something gets at me. They score.
Can't beat the pressure on us but we can keep in it for a goal and a respectable scoreline. Hope they leave it all out there on the ice in the 3rd v Canada.

8-0
Outclassed by Canada's B team who never really needed to get out of 1st Gear.

8-0 Outclassed by Canada's B team who never really needed to get out of 1st Gear. Wouldn’t exactly call that a B team, still some top class NHL talent in that side. Still a B team with a lot of the very best missing. Regardless of how good the B team is it's still not their A team. I dont think he is being disrespectful to GB. It was fairly obviously men vs boys out there. The guys put up a great fight and the scoreline wasn't too bad. A lot of that was to do with Bowns mind. Good luck in your search for a replacement.

Yep - I meant in my comment that's why he's not currently playing for GB, as I don't (for his careers sake !) foresee him playing four years in the EIHL anytime soon - although stranger things have happened... From what I can remember its a certain percentage of your overall juniors career that has to have been in the UK for the EIHL to recognise you as UK trained, be nice if we had a rule book to consult...

Let's be honest this was always going to be a "take whatever small victory you can" kinda game.
So for me with that in mind a few things:
1) GB supporters were immense, the whole arena was rocking, more so as the game went on. We really do represent our nation in the most incredible way. Very proud to have been in that arena.
2) Bowns great again. He'll for sure have some offers you'd think, it's just a case of whether they are good enough to tempt him to go for it.
3) Defensively we were actually very solid. Considering we spent probably 90% of the game heading towards our own net to keep it down to 8 was a solid effort. I'd like to think we'll be looking back on this in the weeks/months to come and learn from it.
Only slight dissapointment for me was that we probably did give them a little bit too much respect. I'd have liked to have seen us stand up at the blue line a little more, it may have cost us a few goals but I'd like to see us try to get a goal or two.
All in all another great night though. I do think we have a real chance against Denmark and France. We're still very much underdogs but I think they'll both know they've been in a game afterwards and at this level where we are currently at in this country that's probably the best we can hope for.

Regardless of the result, how good was it to see these lads get to play against some world class players and come out with no shame whatsoever!

Totally agree, but in a way, I wish they pulled Bowns a bit earlier. The game was over, he is our key player so any chance to give him as much rest as possible needs to be taken. Our objective is not to reach the next stage but to stay in this group. I'm guessing Denmark is one of the games earmarked for one of the best chances of winning but I feel that they have got to be more adventurous going forward, can't keep on sitting back. If they play like they did against Germany, then maybe it can be done

Can not fault the effort levels at all.
How cool was it to see our tiny little hockey backwater play against (arguably) the best team in the world though?
Fans were top class.

It’s surreal, even when you think about it now it’s still unbelievable. The main difference between the teams was their level of fitness and their athleticism, as athletes our guys are nowhere near them, but that is a reflection of the leagues they all play in.

www.iihf.com/en/events/2019/wm/news/11394/canada-downs-bownsinteresting to read a report of the game from a supposedly neutral point of view, although the author is a Canadian hockey writer. Canada decided to stop scoring after 5-0, taking friendly shots at Bowns, not wanting to pile on the score. I reckon that after the 2nd period they treated it as part practice, part entertainment for the crowd, trying to score pretty goals. But they still took it pretty serious, and GB didn't let up either. We should see more ice time in the opposition end in the Denmark, we just need to show some patience if we do and try to work the goalie.
