Does anyone know where this ‘we’re poo poo’ song has come from that GB players sang after beating France? I’m presuming someone called them poo poo and it’s a bit of last laugh banter thing?

There are 2 possible answers to this... apologies, but I'm not entirely sure:- - it's possible that the players sang this last year in Budapest, and just carried on this year. - allegedly during the pre-tournament meeting of the management etc of all 8 teams in our group, the French team manager said that GB shouldn't be here, that our presence was a "joke" and that we weren't good enough to be at this level. Also allegedly, once we'd gone 0-3 down on Monday, one or more of the French players skated up past the GB bench telling our players that they were " poo poo ". If any of the latter is true... karma's a <female dog>

Interviews and training play (inc game v Italy in Coventry) on Transworld Sport this morning. Stating 'GB set to play in this months World Championships' ...so pre tournament piece. May be a repeat from early May?

I had heard the same thing about the French team, I'm sure Pete Russell said something in one of his speeches , outside near the coach after the match but I couldn't be 100% sure & Ben Davies is quoted in the Telegraph as saying its been an internal joke within the camp for a couple of years. Best bit was when the Canadian team are congratulating our players coming down the corridor and Mosey shouts back at them "yeah we're poo poo and we know we are... see you next year boys" classic.

there was some banter between our bench and Anthony Rech towards the end of the 3rd period, perhaps that was all part of it.

Does anyone know when the draw is made for the 2020 worlds?
Is it around November when the tickets are released?

Taken from the IIHF 2020 webpage:
The ticket presale kicks off spring 2019. Starting in May preliminary round, final round and arena packages will be on sale. In autumn (currently planned for September), after the game schedule is known, the desirable day tickets will be available for purchase. In February/March 2020 single game tickets will be available, if these tickets are not already sold out.

Exactly which teams we will be facing next year will be sorted out during IIHF Congress, which is happening now and ends Sunday. So at the latest, we should know our opponents by Monday - although probably before then.
Different ticket packages will come available later this year, no exact dates yet as far as I am aware. GBSC will probably get a head-start on that, being the officially-affiliated supporters club.
Edited to add:- And I probably should have read previous posts better before writing that... my apologies, EMB

There's been an immense amount of coverage of GB out at the Worlds this year, and I'm probably only scratching the surface of it... but a few more links and bits of info that may be of interest:- Dare To DreamThis is a 75-minute documentary that was created before this year's tournament... a preview, so to speak. I wonder how accurate the predictions were...? For all of the official stuff - IHUKTV is the place:- IHUK TVChirping Patrick KaneThis was funny... and he seemed to enjoy it, he gave us a wave after his interview! Chris Ellis presents the highlights of That GameVideo from local Slovakian media of the GB Barmy Army celebrating after the win over France GB Barmy ArmyAn article which includes a video of That Song:- Leading SportYes, we actually got a bit of BBC coverage... don't faint!Seth Bennett makes an interesting point here... about Olympic qualification. Difficult, but not impossible... We don't yet know when/where GB will be involved with this (although Andy French had a bit of a knowing expression as he declined to answer when I was chatting to him on Tuesday)... I believe that we have a bye for the first round (in November this year, I think)... I believe we may have first dibs on hosting the second round group (4 teams) in February 2020, and then the winners of that group would go to the final qualification round (in September 2020, I think) to join the top 8 seeded teams plus the hosts China for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. 'The Best Of Great Britain' - including That GoalAnd who says that Jonathan Phillips is past it? - a hard footrace to the puck, gets back up after being knocked down, controls it, waits and a perfect pass to a fast-moving Ben Davies. IIHF - The History MakersOh yes - and has anyone mentioned that Ben Bowns now holds the record for the most number of saves in the group stages of the IIHF World Championships with 230? I believe if GB made it to the Olympics, the government would start to fund a programme for us. They see that as the pinnacle of all sports it seems then depending how far the team progress in the competition will depend on how much is funded. Its definitely success based

Its definitely success based I wish I could be as hopeful as that... but with the sport in this country being so badly run, I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't touch us even then!

Thanks I'll be trying my best to go to individual games if I can. If this happens then a Pidge + Shaggy embracing picture needs to happen in that arena. Life would then be complete! I'm praying for us to be in the Lausanne based group so I can stay in France and travel in each day. I'm moving to Toronto in August so coming back for this is going to make my bank manager's eyes water.

Perhaps the supporters club can take this lead on stopping in France for a cheaper ideal? Just to say i also understand that if your an Olympic sport you get a leg up with funding.

Just to say i also understand that if your an Olympic sport you get a leg up with funding. You have a greater chance of getting funding... but it's far from guaranteed. And with the governance of British ice hockey being - well, descriptions range from 'fractured' & 'ineffective' to 'corrupt' & 'incompetent' - there isn't much chance to start with... BTW - we already knew the locations for the top level for the next 3 years, but now we have the locations up to & including 2025:- 2020: Zurich & Lausanne, Switzerland 2021: Minsk, Belarus & Riga, Latvia 2022: Tampere & Helsinki, Finland 2023: St. Petersburg, Russia 2024: Prague & Ostrava, Czech Republic 2025: Sweden & Denmark Will much of this matter to GB? Maybe, maybe not. But the very thought that we could have a chance at any or all of those is one that I personally wouldn't have had a few years ago. Lots more to do, though.

I think that funding via the Olympics is dependent upon success and participation. Quite a few sports have had funding reduced or removed because of this.

I'm pretty sure I said the same thing the other day 😉
Most sports are success based and the government will only fund if theres significant progress being made

Most of these obviously would never be a problem, but teams like Latvia and Denmark I would think are slightly more likely to experience a drop. Would they be artificially promoted if they were in the lower division?

That is the biggest impediment to getting any kind of funding.

Most of these obviously would never be a problem, but teams like Latvia and Denmark I would think are slightly more likely to experience a drop. Would they be artificially promoted if they were in the lower division? For the 2020 Worlds it's simple - neither Belarus nor Latvia will be relegated if they finish last in their group. If either or both of them finishes last, I believe that it will be the two bottom-ranked teams (that aren't Belarus or Latbia) who will be relegated, regardless of which group they are in. So... say Belarus finish on 0pts and the 7th-placed team in the same group have 3pts, and in the other group the 7th & 8th placed teams have 2pts & 1pt respectively - it is the latter two teams (from the same group) who will be relegated. I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it. That, of course, is only going to make it much, much harder for GB to stay up next year. I'm honestly not sure how it would if (for example) Denmark were relegated in 2023 and failed to get promotion in 2024. They would probably get one of the two promotion slots automatically, which would be a bit of a git for some other team. This kind of scenario is, however, extremely unlikely - the fact that there are 2 promotion slots in Division 1A means that Denmark would have to finish no higher than 3rd for 2 consecutive years. Quite frankly, I can't see that happening.
