Finland are 2-0 up on France which is good news for us at the moment.
It means we just need a win in regulation to stay up

Any win would do, as we'd win the tie breaker.
Hope the Finns can see it out. France seem to be taking quite a few pens.

Finland are 2-0 up on France which is good news for us at the moment. It means we just need a win in regulation to stay up What we need from the Finland/France game is for Finland to force France to skate their legs off, and for Finland not to go too far ahead (2 or 3 goals at most) so the Finns don't slacken off but the French keep pushing.

Bowns 100% to start. He didn't have a niggle in the Slovakia game at all, he went off which allowed Murdy to sit on the bench and earn his first cap.

Although we had (faint) hopes of snagging a point or two earlier in the tornament, it's now come to what was pretty much expected... GB vs France, winner stays up. Do GB have a chance? - yes. Who has the better chance? - France. Is there any kind of certainty as to what will happen? - hell, no! Now the weird bit... I want GB to win. I always want GB to win. But there is an argument that if we win, we lose... and if we lose, we win. Yerwot? For the team... being up at the top level is good experience, but is very, very tough. GB have over-achieved to get here, we know this. Staying up would be even more so (although it would be a kick in the teeth to those who have said it's impossible). Another year up at the top level would still be good experience, but wouldn't be any less tough. I'd be happier with the idea if GB and British junior player development actually got proper, consistent investment and support from those who allegedly 'run' the game in this country (not to mention less indifference or contempt from a lot of the fanbase)... but I'm not going to hold my breath. There is an argument that competing back down in Division 1A for a couple of years or so may actually be more useful long-term... as long as the governing bodies and the nay-sayers don't just write GB off as failures (which would be stupid, short-term thinking and untrue). For the fans... it's amazing being here, seeing our team play against some of the best players in the world (chirping Patrick Kane... which he seemed to enjoy!) and watching some very, very good hockey live. But even though we've rightly celebrated some of the performances in defeat (especially against USA & Germany) it would still be nice to see our team go into games with more than just a faint hope. And it's in Switzerland next year, which is hideously expensive. Many of the GB Barmy Army out here in Slovakia simply won't be able to afford to go. The location for Division 1A is not yet known (probably to be announced in 4-5 days?) but is widely anticipated to be Slovenia - which is not only much more affordable, but is also a very nice country to visit... we've been there before a few times. Regardless of the above... I fully expect to shout myself hoarse this afternoon, be elated if we win, be gutted if we lose. That's what happens on game days... heart overrides head. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy it Shaggy! My time over there for the first couple of games is right up there with my best hockey experiences, in fact best life experiences. It felt surreal, like you are in a bubble and although outnumbered by the Finns and probably matched by the Germans it became clear very quickly that we have some of the best supporters in the world. I see it as a win/win situation today. Another year in the top level? Yes please! Potentially a kinder group next year and there could be a couple of closer games. Relegation to 1A? Probably where we belong(at best) and it'll be nice to have games we can realistically compete/win. As nice as it is playing against a full roster of NHLers you don't indefinitely want to be the underdog year on year. Whatever happens and despite what some may say, this past week has been the culmination of 3 amazing years for Team GB and if this is to be the peak of that then we can still be very proud of our efforts. We'll never be a top 16 hockey nation but fewer people around the hockey world are looking at GB Ice Hockey and they don't laugh quite so much any more.

I'd say that our best chance to beat France is too play how we did against The U.S.A. as in put them under pressure and get shots on The French net.
Sitting back and defend most of the time whilst catching them on the counter attack won't get it done

Great to see both Bowns and Whistle making "#1 Save of the Day" on the IIHF videos on different occasions. Bowns' save on Hughes also made the "NHL Tonight" WC roundup. Former NHL goalie Kevin Weekes was impressed, so there's some kudos.

3 great chances v France - David should have shot through on his own - Kirk should have done better and Hammond fanned one with an easy finish. These are the chances other countries take.

Something tells me GB will rue these missed chances with a decent goalscorer we could be 4-1 up! Wheres Clarkie when you need him!

The one that I can't fathom is why Ben Davies didn't take that early shot and instead passed it back. Beggars belief... Tony Hand did the same in Hungary 2002. Come to think of it, that was to Colin Shields as well!

No way is this a 3-0 game but if you don’t take your chances you’ll put yourself in trouble.

Having kittens here. France better team bar GB not giving up. French mistakes we have to force again and again. Punish them, Don't sit back when we have faith. Anything can happen now. Even the doubters could come back and tell us what's going wrong ONLY rather than credit the effort.
I'm with GB whatever happens.
