Forget this, Farmer is under contract still. So why does he not appear on this seasons roster? Because Panthers are either inept or as usual playing stupid games with the fans. Think you’ll find there’s one still on the off ice roster that shouldn’t be there any more too !

Anybody heard anything about what’s happening with Farmer, very strange that we’ve heard nothing at all yet.

The Club need to clarify his ( Farmer ) position. If he is signed say so. If not, either by his choice or that of the new management, then move on. No individual is bigger than the team. I think his impact has diminished over the past couple of years so would not he too upset to go without him.

My understanding is that he is contracted to Panthers for the forthcoming season BUT is exploring options/opportunities to play abroad, hence the lack of clarification by Panthers over his future next season (i.e. they don't know!)

Let him go if his heart or head would rather be elsewhere and spend the big Brit money on better quality imports that are more likely to be difference makers. Up in Sheffield Aaron Fox didn’t mess about, apparently looked at Stevie Lee then his budget and when he found out the cost of Lee.....“that was the end of that” !!

Pretty much this. Farmer is on the daft 2nd year optional if all parties are happy rubbish. Panthers obviously want him back, he's not confirmed yet.

I’d imagine Farmer hasn’t received an opportunity to good to not take, otherwise he would have gone already. Also if he’s exploring his options, that suggests to me that he’s not happy with where the club is currently at

Would he be an import out there? Would have to be good to beat "passport" wages here I would have thought

Short career. Maybe he wants to experience life elsewhere before he has too many commitments keeping him here? (I've no idea about his personal life.)

As with the rest of our lame Brits last season he was..........lame. Based on that, no sad loss if he goes.

Like it or not the passport issue matters, and we've already lost one senior Brit (2 if you count Gospel). Losing Farmer would leave us looking very light in that department.

From an outsiders perspective, Farmer would be a big loss for you guys, being a Brit.

Personal opinion is that this is not a good idea as it will block more of the players coming through the youth teams. We already have a high import level versus most leagues in Europe...it would be very feasible to see teams fielding entire rosters with no British born/trained players. The league should, however, tweak the rule so that Brits are people born in the UK (such as Liam Stewart, Danny Taylor and Nathan Walker) or did their youth training in the UK (such as Ashley Tait).

We’ve had since April to address the ‘Brit pack’ issue and done very little it appears. There are other Brits out there why weren’t they pursued rather than having to put up with the same dross year on year?

An update on this. At a forum in Hull last night the owners of the Pirates suggested that this would be implemented in the NIHL from the start of the 19/20 season.

This deal we have with the Brits, where the second year is optional and an offer is left on the table, seems a bit daft. Surely there has to be a deadline?
Otherwise, if we continue to wait on a decision from Farmer, we don’t recruit any new Brits, and Farmer eventually decides he’s moving on, then we’re going to be in a bit of predicament as there won’t be any decent, senior Brits available.

Seems to me that Panthers are a bit soft when it comes to the Brits, If Farmer is dragging his heels then surely the contract with a second optional year works both for club and player. If he can't hurry up and make up his mind the club should actively seek a replacement and bugger the player. The boot might just end up on the other foot with Farmer finding himself in a predicament where he has no club and has to take a wage cut. The club need to be more ruthless with these players. We have backed ourselves into a corner where half decent British players can demand greater wages than seasoned ex AHLers. It's bonkers.

To play devil's advocate a bit - as someone else keeps claiming to do - how do we know that Farmer hasn't yet signed? All we know is that nothing has yet been announced. We have strongly suspected for years that the Panthers eke out signing news over the off-season... maybe that's the case here. Maybe Farmer has already signed. Maybe there is a privately-agreed deadline for him to find an overseas team, after which he will automatically re-sign for us. Maybe he's not coming back at all, and they don't want to announce that so close to the Steve Lee announcement. Maybe something else.
And why assume that the Panthers would wait until Farmer said no before looking for a replacement? If I were them, I'd be working on other British players at the same time... like the oft-touted Ben Davies. Hang on... he's not yet been announced as signing again for Guildford... what does that mean? (could mean lots of things, could mean nothing).
