How dare you actually use facts instead of rhetoric and blind prejudice? Actually, what really surprises me is the comparatively poor points production of the Belfast and Cardiff British players... Top imports are the difference makers though Shaggy, that’s why the Devils and Giants are where they are. To get a true Brit points picture though it’s hard because games played and ice time are different. Look at Shields and Dowd, they’ve both missed a lot of games and Devils best Brit is a goalie.

It's all abit of a false ecomony anyway.. some brits have top scoring import line mates who will bunk up their points total
I remember Paul Sample.. awful player but got over 60 points one year as his linemate was Jason Ruff !!

There’s one key element missing with regards to Cardiff and that is Ben Bowns. An import level goalie and imo the 2nd best goalie in the league.

Your memory is playing tricks on you. The Paul Sample who had 38 points when Ruff's team mate (whether they were linemates at all points throughout that year is another matter) at Belfast in 03-04? The same guy who had 31 points three years later for Devils? 20 games for the GB senior team? A long way from "awful".

As I said on another thread, Ciaran Long has been one of my breakout players this year, and is capable of putting up so major points. no brainer if we can afford him or resolve his contract (if indeed there is one) with Storm.

I'd love to be proven wrong but I don't see Long coming here, personally I see him in Cardiff or Belfast if anywhere. Belfast's brits are not great, Cardiff's are getting old.
I feel GM will keep Lachowicz on purely due to the fact it's the testimonial season next season.

GM knows less than nothing about hockey.. to even contemplate keeping a brit who's scored a whopping 11 points you need your head looking at.
Until we get a GM/Director of hockey who can make calculated decisions then Panthers will continue a long this path.
Just call the Panthers Sentimental HC Instead!

I'd be a bit surprised if GM doesn't retire this year. Pretty big shot across the bows healthwise, there's more to life than a beer league hockey team.

I'd personally like to see the back of him for both the clubs sake and for his sake. He might be making decent money here but he isn't particularly earning it and his career is taking a downward trend during the years it should be in its prime.

Bumping this to get clarity.
So as I see it we head into next year with an issue based on senior Brits fron this past season. We know Ollie is back and I believe next year(rules being the same) he is now a "senior Brit". So we already have too many.
Perlini Farmer Ollie Lacho Lee Gospel
Clearly there is plenty of opinion on who should go. Also potentialy adds weight to Steve Lee perhaps moving on. If we want to bring somebody such as Ling in they we need to cut 2.
You'd guess, regardless of how much you are a fan or not that Lacho and Lee are least desirable but it's likely not that simple.
One big problem for me is "wasting" a slot on a bench warming back up. For the ice time they get is it worth going for a younger Brit goalie? This being impacted by Ollie being an over now, can you find a new under 23 as good? Of course we dont know for sure(regardless of contract) who is expecting to come back and who may move on. I'd argue the top priorities from this season are Perlini and Farmer with Ollie already confirmed. So it's 2 from Lacho, Lee and Gospel.
So many ways we could go. For example.
Gospel Long Ollie Farmer Perlini.
A bit of a waffle but 1 needs to go anyway(unless we carry a spare Brit) and perhaps 2 if we do get Long or somebody else new.

I don't think Ollie is a senior next year, the cut off for being under 23 should be born on or after Jan 1st 1996 (assuming it follows the same pattern as it has been doing), so for the last season he should scrape in.

Think you can now forget Ciaran Long. Sounding like the smart money is on him going to Belfast.

Thanks, tbh that was the first thing I came to ask and never actually did. 😂 That makes a big difference. However next season the problem will come around. For now, as you were.

You're just a one track record aren't you? You may think that and to an extent you could be right. But what’s wrong with wanting the best we can get, that’s all I want,I want Panthers to win. People have different opinions, mine is that a DOH in an already top heavy Panthers off ice staff was a waste of money. That’s not right or wrong it’s just my opinion on a forum for debate. I don’t criticise other individuals for having the opposite opinion to mine all the time,I criticise Panthers because I don’t agree with a lot they do.
