Great stuff. So half the season we have played short at the back, a contributing factor to our leaky defence perhaps? Not sure that’s the case if we’ve been more successful when we’ve played short on D. 🤔 Could it be possible that the games where we’ve had a full compliment of import D have coincided with our scoring struggles, and, as has already been mentioned, a tougher schedule? It’s still baffling that we’ve been more successful paying shorter on defence, but it is a good indicator as to who sits out when all the imports are fit.

I suppose of course it could just be that Henderson might be a better Dman than Olsen,Billingsley,Hughes,Rissling or Lepine ! 🤔🤣 Lol

It’s an old adage of mine to never ask a question you don’t already know the answer to. I assume this is what you’re doing here?😆 I’ll tell you tomorrow. I’ve no idea what the true numbers show Bob, it just seemed a reasonable question. But i wouldn’t be at all surprised if Carnell’s figures are correct and we actually won more playing short on D. Especially when Lepine was missing. 🙈 Lol I was only having a giggle. It will be quite interesting to find out, see if there is a pattern on opponent and/ or anyone being especially important. Not sure I can correlate with opponent strength, though. 😂

Had anyone got a list of the games Billingsley played as a forward and Henderson played on D?

OK. Classing Billingsley as D man and Henderson as a forward, here are the scores on the doors. With all 5 import D dressed. 27 GP, 11 H, 16 A, 9-1-1-9-6-1, (W/OTW/PSW/L/OTL/PSL) 29/54 points, 0.537, GF 86 (avge 3.19), GA 90 (avge 3.33) Therefore, with at least 1 missing, 28 GP, 16 H, 12 A, 12-2-2-9-2-1; 35/56 points, 0.625, GF 84 (avge 3.00), GA 81 (avge 2.89) So, statistically, the team have had better results playing a D man short...
With Olsen missing 10 GP, 6 H, 4 A, 2-2-0-5-0-1; 9/20, 0.450, GF 30 (avge 3.00), GA 37 (avge 3.70) With Lepine missing 5 GP, 1 H, 4 A, 1-0-1-2-1-0; 3/10, 0.300, GF 13 (avge 2.60), GA 16 (avge 3.20) With Billingsley missing 7 GP, 5 H, 2 A, 4-0-0-2-1-0; 9/14, 0.643, GF 23 (avge 3.29), GA 21 (avge 3.00) With 2 D missing (4 Olsen/Rissling, 1 Olsen/Hughes) 1 OTW in 5 games.

Whats the takeaway message from all that Bob? We're still crap! 😂 On a (slightly) more serious note, these stats are pretty impressive. I bet (put a lot of money on it) that the 'organisation' don't keep/are unaware of such statistics. I would imagine that proper sports clubs pay a lot of money to a team of folks for info of this depth/magnitude.

Whats the takeaway message from all that Bob? Next time I go past the Life shop, I should go in and get one? Not sure there is one really, TBH. I'm struggling to find any rhyme or reason for much of what has gone on this year, and if I do find some kind of pattern, proving if it's causal or random is equally hard.

Nice Stats Bob, yet again. Who were the opponents & our coach for the missing games of Olsen & Lepine? Details below, as per screenshots. Blue opponents, Strachan coach; the bigger one is Olsen, the other Lepine. Attachments:

I would imagine that proper sports clubs pay a lot of money to a team of folks for info of this depth/magnitude. Thankyou for your kind words. It's all based on publically available information (stats and videos), you've just got to have the time/inclination to build it all up, watch every single goal etc etc. Then be able to get the numbers out of it at the end. Luckily, I'm half decent on pivot tables in Excel and that takes a lot of legwork out of it. I estimate each game takes 30-45 minutes on average to input. The actual individual PP and PK stats are the most time consuming. Period, penalty, transgressor, time of penalty, time it started, time it finished, what the situation was (5 on 4, 4 on 3 etc), outcome etc. That's how I can tell you that Panthers scored their first 5 on 3 goal the other week, after 9 prior attempts totalling 605 seconds of fruitless 5 on 3 (it says here). It's been a labour of love for 3 seasons now, each year more gets added, although if I do it all again next year I don't want to add much more! Every so often you a little nugget, like the fact that 5 of Farmer's 10 goals this year have been game winners, including all 3 of his PP goals. Also that only 2 GWGs this year for Panthers have been scored by a D-man. For a million smartalec points, open to anyone, who scored them, and against who? Incidentally, they've both been against the same team...

I really should attend more games, maybe next season.

Regards the dman with the GWG’s I can recall Lepine scoring the game winner against Guildford at home, but I can’t recall him scoring another... is it him?

Half a million smartalec points to you sir. 👍 It wasn’t Lepine the other time though... Lepine and Rissling. And the other half million to you, iggy! When, though...? I don't know this, but I suspect that Panthers have one of the lowest points totals from the D of any team in the league? Of the 469 points Panthers have scored this year, 95 have come from "Dmen". 20.3%. <sits down, puts the kettle on....> Giants are 147/593, for example, 24.7%. Dundee, 110/434, 25.3%. MKL, 71/361, 19.7%, Steelers, 150/462, 32.5%, Cardiff, 156/604, 25.8%, Blaze, 120/529, 22.7%, Fife, 84/476, 17.6%, Clan, 119/558, 21.3%, Flames, 119/487, 24.4% and finally Storm, 100/448, 22.3%. So, I think we can say that, dispassionately, Panthers D aren't doing the biz like they could be. Middling goals against, poor (relatively and absolute) scoring. Panthers top scoring D-man this year has the lowest total of any team's top scoring D-man. The 19 points from Rissling and Olsen compare very unfavourably with every other team. The next lowest are MKL and Fife, with both Nelson Armstrong and Scott Aarssen respectively both having 30 points. Flames have 2 D-men with 42 or more points, with both of those having at least 19 even strength points alone.

Going back to the original topic...
Keep The Brits (yes, I know that will get some people frothing at the mouth, but hey ho) Rissling Henderson Bolduc Guptill (even if he doesn't switch on all of the time, he's still clocked up more than anyone else!) Stewart - if he gets to full fitness and stays there Munson (less experience than Garnett, but to be honest - I have more confidence in him than Garnett)
Bin Rheault Richard Hurtubise Garnett (has great moments, but also terrible ones... more so than we can tolerate in a #1 netminder IMO) Lepine (he's woken up in the past couple of weeks or so... but it's too little, too late) Kovacs
Undecided Hughes Olsen (would really like to be a keep, because there's so much that he COULD do... but hasn't) Billingsley Pither (edging towards 'keep', because we know he really can turn it on, he just goes AWOL a bit too much for my liking)

Keep = decisions to be made after the Play-Offs. Dump = already clear cut on Garnett, Munson, Gospel, Billingsley, Lee, Lepine, Rheault, Kovacs, Lachowicz, Perlini, Farmer, Hurtubise, Bolduc, Stewart, Richard, Pither and Henderson. Not interested in "having to retain due to college or rolling contract agreements. Cancel/break any such that are in place. Also, dump the current coaching and fitness ( joke or what ? ) collectives. Panthers need massive wholesale changes. Honest question - if you were signing the pay-cheques each week, would you be happy with any of those listed here in terms of value for money, consistency or overall work ethic ?

One or two, yes. Hurtubise is a grafter, with points potential, does a lot off the puck. Lots of people seem to like what Bolduc brings (not me, especially, but that's what opinions are for). Lee has had a decent season as a defensive D man. Farmer could be the best Brit in the league with a bit more consistency. Perlini ditto. Frankly, I like Munson as part of a tandem. I'd like to see some pretty serious player turnover over the summer, though.

You want to run with one brit next year? Without being outstanding Farmer and Perlini have done just about enough. Henderson is probably going to be the coach and i'd be interested to see how that works. He may also get the best out of Stewart who has been much better lately and bring in players that compliment him rather than just sticking him on the Farmer/Perlini line. Would like to see us get rid of uni deals all together. They might attract some big CV's but offer too much of a distraction for me

Get rid of two premier Brits and two useful Brits (Gospel and Lee) and replace them with who? Stewart is the most creative player on the team, he's a key piece to the puzzle. Munson is a very capable import backup. I somewhat agree with the rest however. Lepine I want to see play his hard, physical game as he is 10x better when playing that style. Potential is there for Pither and Hurtubise but they haven't shown it, tough decision, especially when there will be a coaching change. Bolduc, wouldn't be too bothered if he left but would be fairly happy if he returned, he too needs to play with an edge more often. Fitness/Strength and Conditioning has been the best its been for a very long time, no idea how you could be disappointed in that. I mean, it'll be very expensive but very useful and no offence to Strachan but I feel the use of technology to break down individuals' performances, effort levels etc is probably something he isn't in tune with.. could and probably will be wrong. Younger coach next season might see the technology used more and hopefully it will. I wouldn't say I'm happy with value for money this season but there are players I am happy with and players I'm not happy with.

Don’t you think his spot could be useful for someone like Kelsall? A young player with the hunger to fight for ice time and the potential to really add some value to the team.
