Wow! In this season of absolute mediocrity (putting it politely), you'd keep the majority of this underperforming bunch masquerading as ice hockey players? You must be easily pleased. Hardly the majority considering 6 of the 12 are Brits and 2 of those are players who barely see a shift and 1 is the backup goalie. So essentially it's 9 roster players and a backup goalie with 2 young players. The best way to look at it is the OP would keep 6 of the 16 imports we currently employ, and of the imports they have chosen as players they'd like to see return, none are particularly bad players. Dress it up however you wish, it's still a majority. The 12 mentioned plus Farmer & the 2 Uni types is 15. Uuuurgh, the thought of having to see 15 of this years motley crew again next season makes me shudder. Even using your method and removing those that have hardly contributed (Gospel, Kelsall & Hazeldine) it's still too many that have coasted through this season for me.

Surely there should be an agreement between the club and university when this is apparent?!

I can't see that Henderson has done anything to justify a player only spot. The only way I'd have him back would be as a player-coach. However, would Stewart be viable in that role ?

now closer to the end of the season id keep: Rissling, top 2 defender, physical and good at both ends. Olson, best defender in the league IMO. Hughes, keep, his work often goes unnoticed but is a really good stay and home d man and makes some huge hits. Lepine, if it wasn't for the 2 year deal get rid of. take captaincy away from him and tell him to hit everything that moves and fight sometimes. Lee, don't think there are any good brit d men we could sign. tetlow, decent prospect. hazeldine, decent prospect. Betteridge, been quality this season. farmer, obviously. Perlini, not had a great year but a good brit to keep hold of. Pither, we have seen what he can do when he is used right. been better recently. Guptill, a quality goal scorer we have been missing for years. Henderson, only if player coach. Bolduc, good player, Jeff brown esc. wouldn't be a problem if he left though. Stewart, recently our best player. Rheault, if it wasn't for the 2 year deal then he can go. Gospel, Obviously. Munson, not as a starter but is a decent NM we can build up or just use as injury cover.
the rest can go and are easily replaceable.

Why ? He’s decent but he’s only got 19 points,he’s 97th in the league scoring charts,he doesn’t really hit much and as far as i recall hasn’t had a fight. Not often we agree, Iggy, but bang on here. Olsen is no more MVP than Lacho. For all his incredible slapshot hype, he's scored 3 goals with one this year. What I do find amazing is that Olsen is 4+5 on the PP this year. The entire rest of the D men together are a combined 0+4. You are correct, no fighting penalties, and the only roughing penalty he's taken was a 2+2 in game 1 of the season. He's managed 4 minors and a 5+G for cross checking though. I don't know if I've been watching a different season to you but IMO Olson is one of the best defenders in the league.

Only the uneducated decide on players based on points output. O Connor has more points than Olsen but guess what he's one of the worst D MEN in the league! Who would you rather have then Pidge. Olsen or Fournier ? id rather have Olson personally.

Fair enough, but opinions are more believable when backed up a bit with something approaching fact. Olsen's a long way from poor in the EIHL, but IMHO, he's a long way from a "must keep" player. His stats are, frankly, middling. I thought he was coasting early season, and he takes the odd daft penalty. He's been comprehensively outscored at even strength by Rissling, and only has 9 PP points all year. Looking above, you're essentially saying you'd keep all bar Billingsley of the 7 D men from this year? The D that have let in over 3 goals a game on average and are only just better, with all the NHL and AHL experience, than Dundee's? (And no disrespect to Dundee at all intended.) To challenge for the title this year, the team would probably have to have conceded about 40 less goals, I think, as well as scoring more than 30 more. I'd be wanting no more than 4 or 5 imports at most back. Olsen would not be among my 5. But that's opinions for you.

Olsen has missed 10 due to injury, Lepine a different 5, Hughes missed 3 games in November (18th to 28th inclusive) and 1 due to injury, Billingsley was scratched for 3 in January (2nd to 6th) and 1 in September/December, and injured for 2 in November, 2 are due to Rissling being suspended (the other games he was suspended, Olsen was also out). The most missing in a game for any reason is 2.

Id rather have both but if I could be one it would be Olsen. haven't seen Fournier much this year and his stats are amazing but from games I have seen I haven't liked him in defence more than Olsen and he has had some horrible turnovers. I want a defender to defend personally.

I’ve no idea what the true numbers show Bob, it just seemed a reasonable question. But i wouldn’t be at all surprised if Carnell’s figures are correct and we actually won more playing short on D. Especially when Lepine was missing. 🙈 Lol

Not sure that’s the case if we’ve been more successful when we’ve played short on D. 🤔 Strength of schedule during those games we were/weren't short on D would need to be taken in to account for a true measure.... & then, possibly, the opponents bench strength for those games compared to their other games.
