Not often we agree, Iggy, but bang on here. Olsen is no more MVP than Lacho. What a ridiculous statement! In your opinion...

It’s not Pidge. Yes he’s better than Lacho but as Panthers “supposed” premier offensive Dman and considering his CV and size Olsen has been very disappointing indeed. His points output is extremely poor,in fact just to put it in perspective against other Dmen Olsen has got one less point than Mark Richardson and only one more point than even Ryan Martinelli.😳 That is nowhere near MVP material ! Call me old fashioned but isn't a defenceman's job to defend? For me Olsen has been one of the few bright spots (along with Betteridge, Hughes & Rissling) in an otherwise disappointing (putting it mildly) season. I suppose it is first and foremost yes Jono, but every team needs an offensive Dman who’s going to put up some good numbers in the mould of Fournier or Ackered etc. I’m not saying Olsen is a bad player but I’d guess from what most people were expecting I think we have to say Olsen’s 19 points is rather poor and certainly not MVP material.

Only the uneducated decide on players based on points output.
O Connor has more points than Olsen but guess what he's one of the worst D MEN in the league!

If you think Olsen is on a par with Lacho .. deary deary me 🙄 I'm yet to find the post where I said that Olsen and Lacho were on a par, just that one was no more an MVP candidate (in my opinion) than the other. That's not implying parity of any description. You carry on thinking what you like, my good man.

O'Connor one of the worst D men in the league? Granted he's not one of the "best" defensive D men, but everyone here knows what his game is, and he's still "only" -2 on a team that is -18 on GD overall. Considering Davey Phiilips is -16 on that same team, he's fair way to go... I literally have no idea where that idea comes from. Rubbish defensemen don't lead their Kazakh team in +/- 2 out of the 3 years they were there. (Second on the team in the other, as you ask). BTW Olsen is +10 per the EIHL site, in reality, he's only +3, I can tell you why if you like.

Neither was I when we signed him, but it was Cherno and some fans who marked him out as being offensive with the big slap shot and he did end up on the no1 pp unit. Purely from the position he has on the pp he should have more than 19 points. It’s where Fournier and Ackered both play and they’re both way outscoring Olsen. For me our MVP has got to be Guptill because without his goals goodness knows where Panthers would be. Probably about 8th or 9th !

Olsen is a solid defenceman, I've lost count on how many almost certain goals he has prevented.. the amount of 2v1's he's broken up putting his body on the line.
I don't think he's perfect, but considering how dreadful we've been this season he's had a good season. He hasn't particularly got great forwards in front of him, he hasn't always had a great partner on defence and with the amount of penalties we've taken and amount of times forwards cough the puck up and then line change rather than back check.. I'd say he's done really well.
I'd like to see him throw more hits or just use his body more, but that being said, he is very capable of breaking up plays with his positioning and his stick work. I'd like to see more shooting from him too, look how many points and goals a guy like Ackered has for Guildford, most of those are blasts from the point.. we rarely utilise the one timers of our defencemen and Olsen has a rocket.
He's a contender for MVP in my opinion along with Guptill and Betteridge, possibly Garnett at a push too. It would be pretty criminal if it goes to anyone else.

That was always a trait when Blazer signed his teams. I guess you went was lyrical over the likes of Jonathan Zion then lol 150+ nhl games says Olsen is more of a complete d man than the likes of Fournier. I ll leave that there

.... he hasn't always had a great partner on defence ... Olsen has had many and varied partners this year. Partnered with each other D, Olsen's even strength stats as follows Lee 0+3, -2 Rissling 0+0, even. Hughes 1+1, +8. (Interestingly, on those same goals, Hughes is 3+5, +8.) Billingsley 2+0, +1 Lepine 0+1, +2

I ll leave that there I don't know what "was lyrical" is, but no I didn't care for Zion, well past his best by the time he got into a Panthers shirt. I did like Dylan's dad though. Ah, the old "but he played in the NHL, you know..." argument. "150+ NHL games" (actually 124 and 1 play off game), and "more of a complete D man"? The NHL games you can't argue with, but Jon Rheault played in the NHL too, and I wouldn't say he's exactly set the world on fire here has he? All those NHL games, all that completeness as a D man, yet still his team are pants and Fournier leads the league in virtually every category a D man can. I know who I'd take if given the choice next year.

Btw you can't judge Rheult this year as he's missed half the season judge him over a FULL one!

In retrospect, maybe a little harsh by me, my apologies if any offence was caused. Probably best if we agree to disagree on this.

Because it agrees with your point of view? Most of this is conjecture and opinion with no actual facts to back this up? Number of times hes broken up 2-1? How many is this and do you have evidence? Just pure guess work. TBH I like Olsen as a D man in fact individually I like most of them but as a collective they are not stopping enough goals against and together with forwards who are and have been all season struggling to score it is resulting in yet again another poor season in Nottingham. Imho its pointless trying to contemplate a MVP when the team are struggling for even mid table obscurity let alone a league title challenge.

I was undecided about a couple of players, but after last night I would say keep:
Gospel
Tetlow Hazeldine
Hughes Olsen Rissling
Perlini Betteridge Kelsall
Henderson Guptill Stewart
To not jeopardise any future uni.deals, it may be necessary to keep Lepine. Is Rheault on a uni.deal? If not release him. If we could get Long and/or Ferrara then perhaps release Farmer as well. Cannot see us tempting any Brits from Cardiff or Belfast when they have European games to look forward to.
Get a No.1 netminder who turns up every match. Play 5 or 6 Import D plus Tetlow Get some forwards who can consistently hit the net. The chances Pither and Kovacs missed last night were ridiculous.

In a season of absolute dross, I think one of the standard outs has been the play of Betteridge; developed into a good little player.

Hardly the majority considering 6 of the 12 are Brits and 2 of those are players who barely see a shift and 1 is the backup goalie. So essentially it's 9 roster players and a backup goalie with 2 young players. The best way to look at it is the OP would keep 6 of the 16 imports we currently employ, and of the imports they have chosen as players they'd like to see return, none are particularly bad players.
