How does a coach with a proven track record appear so lost? Rich won the DEL for Christ's sake. Watching our pre season games excited the heck out of me, I really thought that we could do something special this season. It's all gone Pete Tong. What happens at the end of this year will tell us a lot, apparently Chernomaz is on a one year contract, his decision on whether to stay or go will tell me a lot about the real ethos of this organization. For how crap the on ice product had been lately, changes have been made. Players have been cut, players brought in. Many more than in previous years. Where is the issue? Personally I hope he stays. For a coach with his experience, hes learning. The proof in the pudding for me will be his second season if he stays, he must have a better idea now of the type of players that he needs in this league. I'm still behind him. For now

Is is because he had lots of other qualified coaches alongside him in Germany? Wasn't he more a director of hockey for a large part of his time there?

Yes it certainly helped he had qualified people around him unlike over here where he's told just to 'make do' with what you're given.
I'm sure football managers bring in their own staff when they take on new jobs . It's only the norm hey

The championships (DEL1) were some years ago now. He won the 2nd division more recently in fairness to him.

For now Im pretty down on the whole thing right now and have little faith in Rich. The reality is though, lets get to the end of the season and see how the land lies. I agreed with the sentiment an the start of the season that he should have two years minimum. I also, like many probably got carried away with what we saw at the start of the season and perhaps got ahead of myself. A trophy or 2 and a 3rd place finish against the goals set by us fans at least would be far from a poor season(even if the hockey has been horrible). However, no silverware and failure to make POFW, along with the league campaign continuing with what we currently have to watch then it's a no from me. Everybody knows the league is gone now. So it's time to go out and give the suffering fans some entertainment and build to the play offs. If he starts next season and we get to the end of November and it's much the same then the club need to act mid season. Not just wait out yet another dismal campaign.

Two issues as far as I can tell.
1. He recruited badly, went too big for this league. Mistook EIHL for N.America style. 2. The structure at Panthers from owner through to coaching level is a joke, has been for years & sets a culture of defeatism.
If he stays for a second year I'd expect a far better team built to handle the competition. It's a big/interesting if though.

He got it so wrong and instead of getting better it’s got a lot worse. A LOT worse. Non performing forwards, terrible defence and spectacularly awful discipline. If it wasn’t for Guptill, Olsen and Garnet I think the fans would have arranged to have a removal lorry outside his house by now.
To be fair I think coach of the Panthers is a lot different to his previous jobs plus he doesn’t have his own assistants / back room staff with him.

You need the right mix.

For me he can go now. The straw that broke the camels back was during the goal review on Saturday he just stood there with his arms folded, sending a message he had already thrown the towel in and accepted defeat to Fife. To me he looked lost and out of ideas. I know he got a lot of stick for breaking his stick in Fife, but I really liked the passion he displayed, it showed he cared, was frustrated and wanted to win. To me he now looks lost, out of his depth and just winding down the clock to the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if he called it quits at the end of the season. I know people will point to his DEL success, but that was many many years ago and hockey in general has moved on a lot since then, coaches need to adapt and move with the times too. Maybe he would have been amazing in a different era, but he's not great now and remember he had spent the last few years in the DEL2 as Sports Manager and has been head coach for only brief period during this period.
With this league any team can win on any night, and we may sneak the CC or the Play Offs, but it would be papering over the cracks for me. I want to watch exciting entertaining hockey, certainly not the drivel being served up week after week and for the last three seasons tbh.
I also believe if we were playing entertaining hockey, even in defeat that there would not be this outcry, for me that's the biggest issue, his hockey is so boring. I watched the Belfast v Sheffield match yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it, was such a massive difference on what we are putting out there at the moment.
Maybe once Stewart gets settled, he will spark the team in the dressing room and on the ice as we are clearly lacking a leader, that's the best we can hope for with the little time left to play.

Rick needs time to adapt, learn from his mistakes and build, I personally think you need to give a coach a minimum of 2 years, first year you should know where you went wrong, learn from your mistakes and the next year to get somewhere close to the top of the league. If he learns in his second year, give him a third etc. etc.
If we don't win anything this seasons, yes it would be disappointing. When he was first appointed I would have been happy to have a year without a trophy, if it meant we was entertained, building towards something good, mounting a challenge and getting to CC semi-finals and the POFW.
The biggest disappointment for me is what we saw during pre-season and in September. I thought we actually might have something special, a great team and lots of positives. It then went south very quickly, and before we know it, we are where we have been for several years, hope is all but lost before Christmas and plenty of poor performances lightyears away from their full potential.

Watch Panthers v devils in a few weeks I guaranteed that game will be entertaining like the previous 4 match ups. Sheffield knew they had to play well else they'd get hammered . The majority of games this year even when Panthers haven't been involved have been dire ! Some games on free sports as well as the odd neutral game I've been practically falling asleep. Question did you want Neilson out in his first year as coach?

I wonder if he signed Lepine? I think he's been shocking this season and can't believe he is on a multiyear deal and he's the captain.
Will Garnett come back? Will Rich come back? What does Dan Green do?
Another crazy season, filled with promise and delivered very little so far. Preseason we looked good if we played a physical way. Change that and we look average.Constant changing of lines, people out of position and no real leadership, its a shambles
Making money though so NB and GM are happy

The were brought in to be physical and it's been taken away. I've said it before and I 'll say it again a non contact type of hockry doesn't work in a league like this before the general play is ultra slow. Regarding NB and GM making money. Sport is a business now it's the way it is. What i don't get is their mindset. If you have a successful team . Things off ice takes care of itself anyway fans go to see winning teams.

I can except poor recruitment because it’s his first year in the league and he doesn’t quite know what to expect, what I can’t except is the fact that this team is devoid of any sustained effort or identity. I didn’t mind if we weren’t successful this season as long as Chernomaz showed us that with more experience in this league, we can really challenge but all we’ve seen is a team that has gotten drastically worse the longer they’ve been coached by him, a team with no fight or effort and a team with absolutely no identity

No he didn’t sign Lepine. I can believe that, there had been calls for Lepine to return as some sort of messiah for a long time. So I imagine a super deal was thrown at him by the 'off ice management' to keep the fans happy and the pennies rolling in. And what did we get, someone who is a shadow of his former self, not a leader, an ineffective dman who takes two many penalties especially at crucial times and costs us the game. What is next for RC, if he is on 1 year contract and offered another, does he take it because it's a job under the same terms and if things are the same accept that supporters will be calling for his head by mid November.Re-sign only if he can have his own coaching staff and complete control of recruitment, or go elsewhere and leave the club trying to find another patsy or someone who will accept that they have little or no control over matters that should concern them.

The quality of player was never a issue. The amount of times on Saturday I saw our players waiting for the puck to come to them instead of the other way round. One example in different levels of graft was fires 4th goal i think when their player won a battle on the boards cut inside and went backhand on Garnett (even though the goalie should have done better) no way should any defence allow a forward to get to net that easily

I have a feeling he came into this league with the expectation that it was a physical “good league”. Brought in a group of players that don’t mix together at all. It’s a shame because I think u could put almost all our import forwards in another team. Eg cardiff and Belfast and they would be standout players.

Whilst he did win the DEL, it's important to mention his side didn't finish first in either year. Indeed, with Kolner they were some 30 points off top spot and actually finished the season with a .500 record.
The difference is obviously the significance of the Post Season in pretty much every other country bar the UK.

No interest and bored with the grind of the league but can get motivated for the shorter stuff. We need a coach with some fire and passion, give me an Adams,Finnerty or Richardson type any day of the week over a dull boring Cherno/Neilson !
