What was it Wayne Gretzky said? “I miss 100% of the shots I don’t take”.
Never had that been more apt.
Shoot the puck. It’s Jackson Whistle in goal, he keeps like a drunkard on a lilo. The first goal came about from getting pucks on the net, which meant we were constantly recycling the puck and keeping them penned in their zone. Eventually and inevitably, the pressure told and we deservedly scored. Not once did we repeat that, why? It was just pass, pass, pass after that. It took a dman (Rissling) to show the forwards how to do it. Still seems that if Guptill isn’t scoring, we look shot shy and devoid of ideas.
No physicality and no intensity. This was a Boxing Day full house against our supposed biggest rivals. Barely a hit, no forecheck, just flat.
Oh well, more cash in the bank of Bermuda. That’s what really matters.

I just cant get excited by this team anymore. We're just so flat. And the crowd matches that.
I cant even put my finger on why we stuggle to break teams down. We had the best of that for most of the game but it still wasnt amazing.
Im just hoping we retain a core of good players improve elsewhere next season. Get a heartbeat player in. Someone who can pick the team up when we go really quiet, which happens way to often. And the defense needs looking at, we conceed silly goals. Their second tonight was daft, you could see them looking for it.
P.s. Where's our physicality?

Well that was a scrappy game littered with errors from both teams.
We had an occasional 5 min spell of pressure but our finishing was dreadful or Whistle managed to get in the way.
Most of the penalties were pretty bad just trying to go for the 5 hole constantly, very disappointing but not unexpected.
The game was so flat in general, hardly a look at each other in anger all night.

A poor Steelers side by their own standards and we are a lot worse. I wonder if RC will be here next.

Two poor teams served up a flat, low quality match. The Panthers lacked energy, enterprise, craft and any ability to get the puck on the net. They always seem to want to make one more pass rather than shoot, and wasted numerous good situations. The joke of a 4 on 3 in overtime summed up the Panthers ineptitude, passing was poor, skating was laboured and they lacked the ability to break down three skaters. Penalty shots? Depressingly predictable. My disappointment is tempered by my growing apathy.

My disappointment is tempered by my growing apathy. This sentence is absolutely spot on. Perfectly sums up my feelings, sadly.

Well that was absolute utter garbage from start to finish,if that’s Panthers and EIHL hockey these days then they can keep it. Two very poor teams both lacking in quality,a flat powder puff game of little intensity,no excitement whatsoever and zero entertainment. Quality wise it was shocking hockey,as for value for money forget it,if that’s the two biggest teams contesting the greatest rivalry in Europe then god help British ice hockey.
Third game I’ve been to this year and it will certainly be the last !

Rivalry? What rivalry? I was surrounded by Panthers fans actually applauding the Steelers off for fudges sake. They just came into our barn on Boxing Day and beat us and you’re standing and applauding them off? Whatever you’ve been drinking over the festive break, stay off it. If they were regular supporters I hope you told them what you thought to that. That’s the problem with the majority of our fanbase, they don’t make it intimidating, everything is all too nice.

This team seems to want to walk the puck into the net, where’s our players who drives the net and squeaks a goal (like Sheffield), or the player who picks up the rebounds or loose pucks in front and bundles it in. You’ve got Whistle in net, the rebound machine, why didn’t work him and put more pucks on net?
The two times we’ve been on the PK in OT we’ve lost, they are massive advantages but seemingly not for us. Pither had the puck on his stick, stood still, the other 3 players, stood still, no movement, no passing, no creativity, no plan?! Who are we supposed to be setting up?
And the penalty shots, dear god the penalty shots... The one player who pulled a move managed to score, the rest were poor and predictable shots, Pither’s was straight into the badge...
The thing that makes it even more frustrating is that Sheffield are poor, but we played into their hands. There’s now no pressure on Sheffied tomorrow, had we won they would have needed to come out tomorrow to try and win the game, which would have helped us imo but I fear for tomorrow now.

Most memorable moment happened before the game started. Lovely to see Mr Paek.
Neither set of fans got into the game at all. So many stocking filler/occasional Panthers fans but no excuses from the travelling Steelers. Dead quiet on their PP before they scored - poor form.
Brilliant pass from O’Connor to set up their 2nd. Touch of class.

Surrounded by people getting hammered and have no idea about the game.
Head it Kick it He touched it with his hand Why is the keeper out of his box
Annoyed me so much
Anyway, worse Steelers team I’ve ever seen. No passion, very little fight. Shame we are worse. So many passengers, 47 and 71 are useless. Playing Billingsley up front and constantly changing the lines. Rich hasn’t got a clue what’s going on.

Indicative of the standard of the EIHL. It gets worse year on year for me.

What has hockey in this country come to? That was boring, powder puff, sit back in your seat hockey. We have no snipers. No one to get a goal out of nothing, no Jordan Fox type of guy to conjure something out of nothing. And we're third in the table!!!! Now, I know you're going to say we're not a third placed team, but the league doesn't lie. We are. What dross are 8 other sets of fans watching?

Still 15 minutes to go, but Devils losing 3-2 in the SkyDump. Opportunity squandered?
