Just read that the giants plan to play a NHL in a warm up game prior to the 2020/1 season.
I've never understood why there hasn't been a attempt to bring the NHL series back to this country (the02) as it was a massive sucess back in 2007.

The ground work by the G.org with the friendship 4 really increases our stock in NA and with the NHL.
Obviously Boston has played here before, so might be them. But I've heard it's more than likely the Sabres. Belfast Lord Mayor was out in Buffalo a while back and he extended them an invitation.
Anyway great news for us once again, our presence in NA is really benefiting us.

I’m really hoping the NHL international series comes round to the UK at some point, they were in Sweden last year and Finland this year. But sadly the decision is taken on attractiveness to locals, Senators v Avs in Sweden had Gabriel Landeskog, Erik Karlsson, Fred Claesson, Miko Rantanen, Johnmy Oduya whilst Jets v Panthers this year was basically made into Patrick Laine v Alexsandr Barkov for the Finns. So unless they are confident they can get enough people, they’ll probably keep going around Europe instead.

That was around 38,000 tickets. I'm pretty sure the recent series in China never sold out and there isn't any current Chinese nhlers that I know of.

Why is it always the Giants and Belfast that gets these North American teams over. Are Panthers and Nottingham not attractive enough or are they just too lazy to put the work in ?

It’s because Belfast has very strong links with North America and Belfast City Council put a lot of the work in to get the teams over and organise tournaments. It’s not just the Giants, it’s a collaborative effort because of the exposure and prestige it brings to the city.

Yeah that’s just Bettman copying the NBA, hoping for a quick buck, (dare say to court some Chinese investment in the NHL) I just hope he decides to follow suit with what the NFL are doing in London in recent years.

Much as I'd like to see something like the Friendship Four at the NIC, probably got bigger fish to fry at the NCC than organising hockey tournaments.

Don’t forget that Nottingham City Council fund the play-offs because of the good that does to the local economy. Bringing North American teams over to Nottingham could be a risk as there would be substantial costs involved and they may not necessarily make those costs back. We’ve seen with crowds at our CHL & Continental Cup games they they don’t capture the imagination like domestic games for whatever reason. Belfast have the benefit of strong links with the Boston area and sponsors onboard to offset some of the travel and accommodation costs plus a fan base who are willing to buy tickets for the event.

Belfast owner(s) regularly fly over to Boston to meet the major there etc. They do have good links.
But of cause lets turn this into (yet) another Nottingham/Panthers basing thread!!

Would you not like to see the Redwings play in Nottingham then Pidge. I’d go to Cardiff to watch Calgary if their owners brought them over. A council isn’t just going to bring an NHL team over without the help or backing of the local ice hockey team.

It needs special circumstances like the Belfast/Boston link to persuade them. The oilers and devils played pre season warm up games in Switzerland but they did play in Bern I believe. That's why I said the02 is our best bet to get a NHL team over again but it's down to greedy Bettman

You could just ignore him...
As Pidge says, thinking an NHL team is going to come over to the World Fabulous to play us, with no existing connection between the sides or cities, is a bit silly.
I'm surprised the NHL haven't been back to London since though, seems ages ago now and they'd easily sell them out.

I can't get my head round it. They took the games to China as it's a big market but I doubt the interest will really catch on (even though they do have a team in the KHL)
they should have seen the interest it generated when it came to London. (Although the owners of the O2 and Kings had a big part to play)
It a due here again

What a tool. Another (what was) interesting thread ruined! Oh give over and go get a sense of humour. All I did was start by asking a reasonable question about why it’s always Belfast. One could argue it was Pidge who broke the thread by assuming wrongly in this instance I was having a go a Panthers.
