There's been a lot of focus about defensive mistakes over the weekend but do the forwards need looking at also. Didn't see the Blaze game but i thought we defended very well for the most part against the devils and were let down by a couple of individual errors. Looking at the forward lines though and while the top line of Kovacs/Hurtubise/Guptill is firing on all cylinders there is currently a lack of production from the rest. For example:-
Pither 3 points Biggs 1 point Perlini 1 point Rheault 1 point Farmer 1 point Doty 0 points
We were scoring by committee in pre season but it seems now that goals are coming from two sources, the top line and the powerplay so do we need to change the 2nd, 3rd and 4th line around?

I don’t see the forward lines being a problem but the defence was a complete shambles on Sunday. And still not convinced by Garnet. Makes some great saves but looses concentration far too easily

I was thinking this the other day to, in fairness to Rich he has been testing different lines from game to game. The one line which I would like to see is
Perlini - Pither - Rheault, I don’t think these three have played together yet and they could compliment each other. Then I’d try
Farmer - Henderson - Doty
Lacho - Biggs - Betteridge
So in theory we have our 6 most creative players together on two lines and the other two lines are physical, grinding lines.

Keep the lines settled.. who do you think you are ? Neilson
They are getting nice chemistry. The defence will tighten up.

Panthers fans under Neilson: For God’s sake, I wish he’d keep settled lines for a period of time to develop better chemistry. Panthers fans after one defeat under new coach: Maybe he should shuffle his lines around to get better chemistry
All in jest this post but this is why being a coach is thankless!

Neilson played around with the lines too much, we all agree.
But there's a balance to be had here, hanging onto under performing lines is equally foolish and ultimately unsatisfying for all parties.

But there's a balance to be had here, hanging onto under performing lines is equally foolish and ultimately unsatisfying for all parties. Are they "underperforming"? I say no. Forget the pre-season... let's just concentrate on the domestic competition so far. 5 games, 17 goals (not counting the penalty shootout in Coventry) - that's an average of 3.4 goals per game. All other things (such as the defensive unit) being equal, is that a reasonable output? I would say yes. Not as much as I'd like to see, obviously... but I don't see how that could be considered to be "underperforming" - that would be an average of 2 goals or less per game, to my mind. We're only just halfway through September, played 5, won 4. It's more than a bit early to be panicking...

No ones panicking, nor did I say the team is under performing, just a rough weekend.
However pantherlee made a pretty good point and I agree, I don't think we're currently getting the most out of some of our best forwards. So how can we change that? I don't see anything wrong with playing armchair coach, I'd be shocked if Rich isn't asking the same question.

I reckon overall we’re doing ok so far. The player we need more out of though is Rheault,he’s supposed to be the number one guy but he’s not producing the points so far in league and cup.

Lets not get too carried away with whos doing well and whos not. Lets remember that people wanted Ling & Graham sacked early in the championship season, look how they turned out in the end

I don’t see the forward lines being a problem but the defence was a complete shambles on Sunday. And still not convinced by Garnet. Makes some great saves but looses concentration far too easily you not been watching? garnett has neen quality this year, one of our stand out players this year for me a save percentage of .927 this year is not to shabby either

Agree that his points production has dropped since pre-season. During Pre-season he was superb. The good thing is, we saw all of our guys in pre-season and they all had good games or good spells and for me, that gives me confidence so that when they seem quiet, I don't worry so much because we can see that they can produce. We could do with a training session type game to get the points flowing...where's Edinburgh when you need them?!

They must've been somewhat mixed up tonight, with Rheault missing? We have seen changes to some of the lines this past week. He is most definaitly tweaking. Lacho is now playing with Ollie for a start. Tonight with Doty too.
