Hello ppl, so I had this weird questions in my mind so firstly Ive been playing floorball for like 4 years and its nearly like ice hockey except its not on ice, so if I wanted to start playing hockey at age of 20 could I get to EIHL league if i'm good enough, isn't 20 too old to start making career out of ice hockey? And how much do they get paid and its not like I care about the money just curious . And what beginner/amateur clubs are near Birmingham Uk?

Most of these players have played since they could walk and spent thousands of hours in training. Some will say it’s a beer league but I’m fact it’s nit. So sorry to start on a negative but a career in ice hockey isn’t likely to happen. In fact, a lot of British trained players outside the big 4 teams have full time jobs as well so the money isn’t great unless you’re the cream of the crop. Plenty of rec teams around but you’ll be paying for the privilege. Your best bet would be Solihull/Telford/Coventry for rinks to see if they have rec teams. But you’ll need to be able to skate before trying that tbh

P.S dont try to make my day worst .

Skating ability is massively more important than puck handling, your skills most likely won't even be all that transferable outside of general game sense and some teamwork aspects. End the pro dream, it was over when your parents decided not to force you into skates shortly after you could walk. However, if you can skate go join a "Learn to Play" session or a development rec team, boom, you're now an Amateur Hockey Player. Have fun being a beer leaguer and enjoy the sport for what it is. You're setting yourself up for failure with your lofty aspirations.

Looks like you havent heard of a sport called Floorball which is exactly the same as ice hockey except its not on ice, only some of the rules change, Ive played it in a team for 4 years and before that since I was a kid my stick skills are pretty good I just need to get use to handling the puck on the ice everything else is the same. Also learning how to skate is like learning how to ride a bike after the 5th time you will start to get use to the balance and how to move forward after that comes stopping and skating backwards which is a challenge but its not something you can not learn in a year time if you visit the nearest ice rink quiet alot.

No because you are deluded into think because you’re good at floor ball, that hockey will come naturally. Did you learn to take a hit in floor ball?
I’m all for perusing dreams but the EIHL isn’t something you can just walk into. And you certainly won’t at 24. If you make an NIHL 2 side, I’d b imporessee

Christ... where to begin with this (also assuming that its not a massive troll job...!)
As Pies has already said, its 99.9% certain that having not even skated at 20, you'll never be make it to the EIHL unfortunately. Its not even a matter of what you as an individual can / can't do, its who you are competing against - assuming you are British then there are roughly 6-10 roster spots per EIHL team that you are fighting for and you're fighting against the best 100 british players in the country at any one time. So you've got to be better than someone who has been skating from at least 10 and is already playing at a high level. I played on a team a few years back that a former panthers brit (and one that wasn't considered particularly skilled at EIHL level!) was on, despite there being a quite a few good players on the team, he was head and shoulders above everyone in terms of skill, speed and physicality. The gulf from decent uni / rec level player to standard EIHL brit is massive, from floor ball with no skating experience to that is unfathomable.
Unfortunately another reality of the competition you'd be facing is that as a 20 yr old who hasn't gone through the junior system, no coaches at NIHL level and beyond know who you are. Coaching setups tend to be very conservative and they favour bringing young kids with juniors experience through, rather than taking risks on unknown quantities - this is why its very rare to see the better rec players jump into league hockey (and those that do, tend to have a background of juniors experience anyways).
I wish I could say 'keep plugging away and you might make it..who knows' but given how time sensitive a career in pro hockey is the unfortunate reality is that if you don't at least have some ducks in a row by the time your 20 its not going to happen. Thats not to say its all bad news - if you've got good hands, are enthusiastic and want to play, make the most of rec hockey! Last time i checked rec on a pay to play basis was cheaper than playing for the Lions, and theres no massive commitment or pressure on your play - turn up, score some goals, have a few beers afterwards and tell people you could of played pro - thats what rec is all about anyways!

If you are so sure why was the original question even asked if you won't listen to anybody. 100% trolling. Decent effort at it too to be fair, could sure make a career out of that.

I just stumbled across this thread. Is it too early to ask how innnserty's journey to professional hockey is progressing?
