Is anyone else unimpressed with the Steelers roster so far? Whistle seems a gamble. Pitt looks good but not too impressed by the other 2 they've brought in. Especially compared to Panthers new signings Yes, Whistle really surprised me, unusual move for them. The thing about Sheffield though is that they never give up and always seems to come back somehow. Delighted Nelson isnt back though

Only ? For me is McFadden, although Flames didn't do too bad with ex uni guys.
Whistle has openly said he's using us as a stepping stone to a more lucrative Euro contract, so he has to be on top form to achieve that.

Especially compared to Panthers new signings Very mediocre so far, with the calibre/pedigree of netminders we brought to the league last year, I would have expected Steelers to want to match. Whistle seems like an unambitious signing, one would assume not the cheapest either as he comes with both his British Passport and a younger brother expecting a free-ride. Would have been very disapointted if Panthers had done the same.

To be fair I'd be very wary of pulling Steelers down because they are always there or there abouts come the end of the season no matter who they have signed. I to am very surprised at Whistle, nothing against the lad but to me its a massive step up for him and he has to produce for them on a consistant basis. Yes our team look strong on paper but so did last years team, infact most teams thought we had won the league before it started but yet again Sheffield managed to finish above us. I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked into all the hype this year cos I'm soo fed up feeling let down come Christmas but the latest signing just got me abit excited, lets hope he's as good if not better than last time.

The fact that we underachieved doesn't make the steeler good it just made us a diappointment. I used to look at Steelers squads and think oh god they're looking formidable again. So far this year and last year i'm just left thinking is that the best you can do. I know things a far from complete yet but i look at their imports so far and just think i wouldn't want any of them. I wonder if we'll find out whether the Christmas slump is a Panthers thing or a Neilson thing

Although I wouldn't want the Whistle brothers at the NIC, and I tend to agree that it looks (on paper) rather unimpressive so far, they do still have half a roster to add to it and as has been said they do find a way to win. Plus if it isn't working early on in the season they won't hang about waiting for it to click.
Over the years we've been pretty good at looking great on paper.

By the looks of Twitter another signing to be announced soon (imminently) could be a new face as the last time they used the phrase Y'all it was American & both Pither and Brown are Canadian.
NB. Another addition to the team tonight just confirmed.

I wonder if we'll find out whether the Christmas slump is a Panthers thing or a Neilson thing I was thinking the same Lee when I read the post above from EMB; I’m not one to throw mud the way of Neilson simply for the sake of it as the trophy haul in the last 10 years has been impressive. That not withstanding, how often though have our rosters looked good, only for the end product, ie a league trophy, be found to be wanting. I know it’s not going to be solely the fault of the coach, and pro players shouldn’t need wet nursing, but it does make me pause somewhat & consider what, or who, was the one constant thing.

Sorry, we have a separate thread for other teams signings. We don’t discuss each one individually

Are you as well pleased on there as you are on here so much lately?

Fournier's a good signing, proven at our level. Wasn't far off PPG last year.
Embryonic, but already a good roster coming together down there.

As long as they don't come in to troll, I personally like it that some fans from other opponents can, and do, drop in and join the discussions.

Thanks mate, I certainly don’t come on here to troll, just like to hear different peoples point of view. And yes I am well pleased on the Cardiff forum thank you, it’s just good to see so many good players signing in the league, as the games are hopefully going to be very good.

I smell fear, perhaps.

Really well pleased with the way things are going in Cardiff, lots of fans favourites already signed, with some returnees still to come. Think we will sign a few high end players to try to keep our success going. Hopefully our games with you guys will be high octane stuff, they are usually some of the best during the season. Anyway enjoy the sunshine, d day is getting closer thank goodness.

Steelers new signing, straight from DEL2, played no higher than ECHL. Are they on a tight budget in Sheffield ? They must be hoping he turns out like another signing of theirs with a similar resume, Jeff Legue.

He has a CV similar in nature to your new #15 Justin Kovacs, seen Kovacs play in person and I expect him to do well over here 🖒

There is nothing on the steelers roster that on the face of it should cause many problems so far. However they’ve probably still got a good chunk of change to spend especially with Roy, O’Connor leaving and as per every other year they always seem to be in the mix no matter what.
