Hotham leaving Devils is a massive loss for them and a great boost for everyone else. I don't think many EIHL teams wouldn't have wanted him in their squad. He ticked so many boxes for us. Granted he hated training and his lack of pace may have been the problem for bigger success early on in his career but to arrive in the shed direct from a good DEL season and then choose to stay after the first season was a massive result for us. Tools he had in the bag, checking, clearing the crease, PK, Power Play, playmaker, goal scorer, he even took on anyone who messed with anyone on our team. He had grit and an incredible compete level and a will to win. He also know the dark arts too. It appears he was a great leader in the dressing room, and chirped away at team mates, officials, and at opposing players. Granted people noticed his mistakes when they occurred but as he constantly played +30 mins a night he had more time to make them and his positive input far far outweighed the few mistakes he would make. He was an enigma. Don’t think we will see anyone come close to him as a package. He was a player where we were both excited to see standing toe to toe with other tough players but at the same time terrified he wold injure a hand and be out for a length of time. We have been fortunate to see 4 years of the best D man we have ever had and he will be sorely missed. Other coaches are still toasting his departure no doubt lol And the gap between the Devils and the rest of the EIHL has just narrowed considerably. These are just my thoughts. For those Panthers (and Devils) fans with long memories, the only player who comes close on terms of skills, ability and impact on their team and the league is Darren Durdle

Now there was a big but gentle presence on the ice What about Neal Martin and the impact he had at Coventry? Martin was the standout player in a very good Coventry team. Its difficult to compare the value of the two players to their respective teams as they are from different eras and the league was completely different when Durdle was at Nottm (first time around), but take Doc out of the Panthers team and we wouldnt have won the playoffs.

Devils have done well to hold onto Bowns again, thought he might get a move to a higher level after the World Champs.

Remember Kyle Hardy? The absolute car crash of a signing. Well after 2 good years in France he's now playing in the EBEL alongside Yann Sauve

Barys Astana have cancelled the contract of Ben O'Connor after a change in leadership That's a shame for Ben. It's looking like a funny old week for the Steelers. Firstly no Liam Stewart(although as an import im not quite sure what teams see in him anyway, certainly not an ernhardt team) and now this to add in the mix. I'm only making asumptions of course, but i'm fairly sure he'll be on the phone to Thommo for his job back. Problem is they've built their team around not having him which included signing Whistle in order to use an import to replace him. Ben is of course a quality player so they could just go with 6 over 23s and 13 imports. Carry a spare import and can resr either an over 23 or an import, or alternarively now go and get an import goalie to share the load with Whistle. Leaving Brad Day in the stands. That is all asuming he goes back there. Hopefully he can pick something else up in a better league somewhere.

Yup, interesting spot they're in. You'd have to think he'll return there if he plays over here, but as you say they've got 5 already in place.
Maybe one of the other Erhardt teams will have a look, could be help fill some of the hole Hotham has left in Cardiff? Belfast have seemed short on Brits too. Would think he'll be on top dollar in EIHL terms so not all would be able to afford him.
Agree about Stewart too, I don't see the appeal really. Unfortunate for him to be suffering with concussion symptoms though so best wishes to him for a recovery.

Regardless of opinions on ability or who he signs for it's not nice to heae of anybody struggling to that extent.

You would take him in a heartbeat. If we did we would we have to find a more popular forum to post about it in as well?

You would take him in a heartbeat. Very good player but there wouldn't be a roster spot for him. I prefer Lee and Tetlow's got so much potential.

Is anyone else unimpressed with the Steelers roster so far? Whistle seems a gamble. Pitt looks good but not too impressed by the other 2 they've brought in. Especially compared to Panthers new signings
