Because secretly we all want to discuss it but not a great start for Sheffield so far!

Looks like they're getting a bit of a hiding. Are these Belarusian?
Top 2 to qualify so all not lost for them.

They should still beat the other two teams and qualify

I do genuinely want Steelers to fly the flag for the UK and do well in this tournament. But...well, not a good start. I wonder if anyone is going to tell Thommo that Minsk is twinned with Nottingham?

They may still qualify but if they go to the Final and play them again, it’ll take a massive turn around in performance to alter that score line.
I seriously think they thought it’d be a walk in the park after our terrible team did it last year

What is the criteria for the final - come on Steelers you can do it - it's easy - after all we managed it last year with a poor team - so with the team you have it should be a stroll in the park (pity it's ice hockey though) - thanks to Mr Simms for his faultless commentary as usual.

It's a win-win situation for Panthers fans.
I want Britain to be represented well in Europe however for all the arrogant comments we received playing down our achievements from that lot last year it would be a sweet dose of karma if they not only don't win the CC but crash out at the semi-final stage.
That being said I see the bigger picture and hope they turn it around quickly.
Thommo must be under some serious pressure. I hope they stick with him though, the longer he's there the more irrelevant and comical they become.

You know what. Sod this flying the flag stuff. Call me narrow minded, short sighted, jelous, bitter, anything else you can think of. I'm happy they lost and hope they dont qualify from this round. Any other team in the league and they'd have my backing. I've spent 20 years hating the Steelers and just because they are a British team in Europe that doesn't change. Add to that the fact Simms continues to be a represetative of that club too.
If they do get through and if they do win it all then i'm big enough to congrarulate them still. But I hope they crash and burn.

Panthers and Cardiff flew the flag for British hockey very well.
I hate the steelers so they can fail for all I care, Simms being moronic on social media again and no doubt Thommo blames someone other then his players for the loss. Hope they lose tomorrow and Sunday

As Corey would say, there's a difference between losing and failing, after all the jokes Sheffield and Simms made about us winning that competition, I hope they fail in every game like they have today.

Is this the micky mouse competition that any elite league team would win at a canter?

I think we all need to take a step back on this, Cardiff and the Panthers have done the EIHL proud this season, some of the performances in the CHL have exceeded all expectations. We have all been proud that British Ice Hockey has been put firmly on the map. Corey also made an excellent point, despite last seasons team coming up well short domestically, we should never underestimate their achievements in the Continental Cup. We should all support the Steelers in this venture, it’s obviously a poor start for them, actually I do not think the team is anywhere near there normal standards however, we all accuse them of a lack of class, let’s keep our standards high please. We need to wish them well and Hopefully they can still qualify for the finals weekend.

Totally agree. With regard to the Continental Cup, it gave us entry into the CHL and promoted both Panthers and British hockey.Perhaps some of last seasons team had a focus on that and put aside other distractions. I was in the Czech republic in May and got talking to a chap from Norway. He had heard of Forest and Knew about the Panthers in Europe. Whatever we think of that idiot DS and his sidekick, the better any British side does the better it reflects on our game.

Them Up The M1 do themselves absolutely no favours with all of the rubbish that they spout, but let's face facts... success for any British team in Europe can only help British ice hockey. Which, quite frankly, needs all the help it can get. I won't deny that there's part of me that would love to see them fail miserably... and yes, if they do just that I will laugh and take the mick and generally be totally unsupportive of them. Oh dear, aren't I narsty? But head over heart... it would be better for all of us if they did well. But just look at it this way... nobody else is going to be the first British team to win the Continental Cup. That is the Nottingham Panthers, and nothing will ever change that, or match it (in that competition). And even if Sheffield do end up winning it this year... they'll have had an easier run at it than we did, it will be less of an achievement - and who they will owe that to? The Nottingham Panthers, that's who. That's just priceless...

I can't believe how much they seemed to be underestimating Yunost Minsk. I said it on a another thread in this forum when the draw was made, this a team that were unbeaten at home in the CHL last year, beating Vaxjo and Boleslav (Czech Rep), and then beat Frolunda 3-2 at home in the Round of 32 (as it had last season). These guys are by far and away the best team in this competition, and really ought to walk it.

Arrogant, ignorant, pig headed, very cocky, one eyed, always full of excuses and think they're better than everybody else. Just a classless organisation. Hope they get thrashed in every game.

I seem to recall a number of people on here that devalued the competition, just as much as Steelers fans.

Yes, but will they acknowledge that, no chance, they are more likely to blame us for them not having the chance to play in the earlier rounds to enable them acclimatise to European hockey. IT's ALL OUR FAULT

IT's ALL OUR FAULT As far as I'm concerned, they can take a nice crisp new sheet of paper, write out all of their complaints in their very best handwriting*, fold it until it''s all sharp corners and shove it up the orifice from which DS The BS speaks... (* although that won't be all that effective with crayons...)

Looking at the crowds so far it's a shame the UK doesn't host the Conti cup more often. Steelers game 641 Danish game 1168
And in the other group in Ritton (again 🙄) there was about 300 and 900.
Shockingly poor crowds !
