Atyrau will head to Ritten-Renon in 2nd Place in the Kazakh League, they return from Winter/Christmas on Sunday with just 2 games to play before heading to Italy. They have the best defence in the league, conceding just 65 in 36 games and scoring a League Second Best of 115.
They have a very experienced team with no North American's on the roster, a couple Draft Picks but mostly the Kazakh, Czech, Slovakian, Russian, Slovenian Leagues as the past experience for most players. Their goalies, one, a exceptionally good 24 year old Kazakh and the other, their main starter.. Former World Championships Gold & Silver Medalist, the 38 year old Adam Svoboda.
Ritten lay top of the standings of the Alps Hockey League, with just 2 Regulation Losses in 38 games. Currently on a 2 game win streak and play 2 more before the Cup begins.
Players to watch out for, the Ahlstrom twins, lead Ritten in points and are the Alps League equivalent of the Sedin twins. Two very good players with SHL experience, both have played for the same clubs every season since turning professional. Another notable player, Janis Sprukts, has it all from a scoring touch to grittiness and strong penalty killing, he's the 2000, 8th Round Draft Pick of the Florida Panthers and is a new face amongst the Ritten team, likely arriving upon Jason Williams' departure. Their goalie, 2008 6th Round Draft Pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Patrick Killeen. Fresh out of college hockey after his initial Entry Level Deal with Pittsburgh failed after he was traded to Columbus. He's posted around the 2GAA mark in both the league and the cup this season.
Odense like Atyrau, lay 2nd in the League and have a 2 game winning streak under the belts. They play just once more before heading to Italy, that game will be played on Tuesday.
They're a very good team, with a lot of youth players and Danish Internationals. They've got size, speed and toughness and were certainly a tricky opponent when we played them in November. Leading the way for the Bulldogs is Dale Mitchell, currently has 53 points in 32 games and has spent the previous 2 seasons also playing for Odense. Mitchell sits on a line with Odense's 2 other point leaders and undoubtedly their 1st Liners, Tony Romano and Sebastian Strandberg. Backstopping them in nets is 24 year old, Czech, Tadeas Galansky who has under 2GAA in the season so far and stands at a rather large 6'5".
If I remember correctly, Odense did not handle physicality too well but ensured they finished their own hits and responded, more as retaliation than to prevent us from our physical game.
Standings wise, Panthers are the worst of the Group but when looking at the bigger picture, we have been on a pretty hot streak recently and have some superb players on our roster, a long with some average ones. Jason Williams has the added benefit of having played in Ritten a couple of months back meaning his knowledge should hopefully be of some benefit to us, should he not be Cup Tied.
Some potentially useful information for any who are going.. German is the 1st Language of most residents within the Ritten area whilst Italian is the 1st Language down at the bottom of the Mountain in Bolzano.
Currently, no snow is forcasted for the competition weekend with the weather expected to be mostly sunny. But being in the Alps, it will be cold. The highest currently expected is 1'C on Friday Morning, with the temperature dropping to -7'C at night with a windchill of -12'C. Saturday Night/Sunday Morning is expected to be the coldest time, with an expected -12'C and windchill of -16'C.
Hope this has been useful to some!

Since the semi final, Odense have been on fire. They have moved from mid table to second on the back of 12 straight wins

As we are going with what we have I presume we will have a pretty rusty DC back or we will be in trouble running just three lines

Very reasonable....is this really our Panthers. This is most agreeable, but very odd......I feel like I've suddenly been transported to become a Cardiff Devils fan or something ! 😉

Now to find out who's commentating. Could be Eddie and his "pulling the twine " or "waving the wand" & hitting the cookie jar.....or GM.

Wow. According to Flashscores, Odense have a league game tomorrow night. So they played last weekend too, then three in three this weekend. At least we've cleared the schedule for this week, I'm pretty sure Sheffield would have played the cup semi final this week if they could

Ritten, Odense & Atyrau all won their game over the weekend.
Dale Mitchell had another Multi-Point game for Odense whilst the Ahlstrom twins led the way for Ritten once again. Atyrau got pushed to OT to get their W against 2nd Bottom Gornyak Rudny.
Odense & Ritten still flaming hot, Atyrau with a slight slip.
