Pavel Datsyuk and 16th pick traded to Arizona for 20th overall, 53rd overall and Joe Vitale.
Wow.
Who did Ken Holland have dirt on at the Yotes?

It's actually a good deal for both sides as Arizona needed the contract to hit the cap floor.

As Shin says, much like with Pronger, money we weren't going to spend anyway. Worked out for both sides I reckon. They were pretty keen to get Chychrun apparently, so the 16th was what they wanted. Chayka seems to have done well for a first go.
I was worried they were going to go all in for a short term boost when Maloney got ousted. So far so good.

When are you going to buy a Datsyuk jersey Yotes?

Same time you get your Joey Victory one (Who I genuinely hope returns to full health someday soon.)

That contract is gonna be a monster! Another excellent draft for Philadelphia, outside of Mathews I thought Toronto did poorly. Can't really understand Winnipegs motivation to trade 36 to Philly to move up to 18 as they reached at 18 anyway! Genius from Hexy though!

I think Toronto went for bigger players where as last year's draft saw them go for the skilled guys. I guess it's about getting a good mixture of the two types of players.
Some interesting prospects now; naturally all aren't going to make it but it's coming together quite nicely.

The pick at 31 in particular was a huge reach, I think Korschkof would have still been on the board in the 3rd.

They feel Korschkov will be NHL ready in a couple of seasons; he has two years left on his KHL contract and will come over to NA once it's concluded. He's certainly a wild card pick but he has size & skill so it's a good pick in my book. I like the look of the goalie Woll too but the others are a bit meh.
Like I said previously, they've gone for size this season & those players, assuming some make it as NHLers, will compliment the sure fire prospects in Matthews, Marner & Nylander. I can't think in my time as a fan that the team actually has three outstanding prospects at forward. They'll still miss the playoffs next season, but it'll be a fun season for sure as those rookies develop.
