Really? Hands down better than Steve Lee? Sure Oakford made less mistakes but he brings no where near the same offensive threat as Lee. As a defenceman, yes. Lee has better offensive aspects to his game but his defensive side is garbage. Turnovers galore, always tries to do a blind backhand pass behind the net and if the opposing forwards are alert and quick enough they'll easily intercept and get a goalscoring opportunity because Lee just doesn't appear to have much awareness and little confidence to go with it. Needs to be more physical and use his shot more, one of the hardest shots on the team and he must only use it about 10 times a year. We're definitely seeing different players. Lee is certainly more inconsistent as a defender than Oakford but his good games are way better. Offensively it's no discussion.

Cheap option in signing greener again. we need to invest in a young hungry backup not keep peddling greener out. Except a "young hungry backup" wouldn't come here to sit on the bench, he'd look to get a starting position at EPL level. Until we (as a league) actually play our backups, no-one with any kind of ambition will join to be a backup.

Some Panthers fans have really short memories. I was hugely critical of Lee last season, and rightly so. He bad a poor season overall.
However Lee has played 7 seasons as a Panthers and imo 5 of those he has been a genuine import quality d man. I reckon the check to the head he took at the end of the season before last really knocked his confidence abit. He didnt look as composed or settled this season. But he really started to get his form back at the end of the season and i thought he was great in the playoffs.
Oakford was very steady at the back end of last season. But do people really think a guy who had 10-12 really steady games should suddenly take the place of a guy who had probably 250+ really steady games for us overall? Pfft... come on, have a reality check.
What needs to happen is Lee needs to be paired with a trasition guy. Let him worry about getting the puck forward and let Stevie get back to his stay at home physical game. When he does that hes very effective. I have no worries about Lee long term, one bad season doesnt make him a bad player. He is still a top brit d man.

I think he would be great concentrating on his defense side.

This is good news. I'd be interested to know which team was the last to win the league with less than 5 import D. Panthers 2012-13 with four import D.......Lepine,Beckett,Werner and Fox. And just look what happens when you sign quality. We did also have Weaver though, which was massive ! Weaver was a bit of an anomaly as a Brit really.

He is going to have to play a game or games at some stage of the season and at least Greener has proved he can win a game for us. We will need a new back up when Greener retires, but let somebody else train that kid,I don't want my current team weakened because we've chosen to look at the future now. That may seem harsh, but when we need one there will be another young Green available from somewhere. As the quote goes......you do what you need to do to win !

To be fair to the younger goalie, don't think Brad Day did particularly badly for Sheffield last season.

But if woolhouse had not retired through injury I bet wooly would have still been your back up.

But if woolhouse had not retired through injury I bet wooly would have still been your back up. 100% he would have been, just like Green is at Panthers. But, it does show that putting your faith in a younger goalie is not always a bad thing, even for clubs like us.

As Kolnik would count as a Euro, I hope he means that the last slot is vacant as we have a contract offer on the table for him?
(2 empty slots if he doesn't re-sign).

They can't go short again..... Oh I bet they can go short....and they will if Corey doesn't pull his finger out. Yes,he can wait and people will say "for gods sake it's only mid June" etc etc. But then they leave it too late, paperwork gets messed up,there's a log jam at the visa office in Canada.......and we end up with all the usual predictable excuses why we haven't got a full roster to start the season ! Heard it too many times before, they don't ever learn and they never will !!!!

I'm gonna be an optimist and say that we've got a signing in the bag, yet to be released, and this is a cryptic way of telling us
