Why can't we hold a world championship tournament in this country? We've got Sheffield arena and Nottingham arena so we've got the venues?

I'm pretty sure the top ranked team in the group is given first refusal, which for us I would assume is often the team relegated from the group above the year before. You almost certainly also have to pay to accommodate the visiting teams, so there's a cost in that. When we (Panthers) hosted a round of the Continental Cup the turnout wasn't brilliant, the GB v Poland games looked fairly lightly attended too. It has to pay for itself I guess.
I'd like to see it though.

While we're in the mood for asking questions, is the ticket price of 20quid standard for international games at the NIC? My gf swore they were cheaper than that a couple of weeks back.

Why can't we hold a world championship tournament in this country? We've got Sheffield arena and Nottingham arena so we've got the venues? It's not quite that simple, unfortunately. The venue is decided by a vote of all 6 countries in the group, chosen from all who apply to host... and it's not cheap. The host nation basically pays for everything as soon as each team arrives in the country. So you are paying for ALL costs for 6 teams, plus all on-ice and off-ice officials, plus venue, media broadcasting (compulsory) etc etc... not much change from £1m is what I've been told - the IIHF offer some assistance, but even so - that's a hell of a lot of cash! IHUK made a bid a few years ago to host at the NIC, supported by Nottingham City Council - but the vote went to Slovenia.
