Yes Jonno. Why are we away in Sheffield AGAIN on Boxing Day this season when we have been there for 4 of the last 5 years. It is supposed to alternate each year. Suits me perfectly. Long may it continue.

Controversy reigns in this edition of The Cat's Whiskers Podcast as Tina Taylor, Andy Haywood, Aaron Lord & me discuss an incident packed weekend for Nottingham Panthers in Belfast, however we start by discussing Chris Lawrence's return to the NIC after a short stint in Sheffield. We also look at the other EIHL results & news before answering some of your #AskTCW questions from Twitter & The Cage Forum. We finish by looking ahead to Panthers triple Scottish weekend against Dundee Stars, Braehead Clan & Fife Flyers. Download or stream from the link below. wp.me/P6zbpB-du

Apparently, the reason is the Arena don't want to open on Boxing Day as they have to pay staff double. According to the missus who works there anyway.

It comes down to money again,of course Matt. Sheffield will get the bigger crowd on Boxing Day than they would on the 27th and Panthers would sell out either day anyway so it doesn't make any difference to them.
It's just annoying that Panthers attitude seems to be......sod the fans, let them travel !!!!!

Like Kiev, it suits me fine, I'd be happy to always play the 27th at the NIC.

Suits me fine, Meadowhall sales shopping in morning for girlfriend and then off to the game (makes the sales almost worthwhile)

I guess the staff at Sheffield arena must work for normal pay on Boxing Day then, mmmm don't think so !
It's more likely GM doesn't want to work Boxing Day cos he'd rather just watch than work,in reality they would rather let the Steelers pay double staff wages.

I think it probably just comes down to the fact Panthers would sell out way in advance regardless of what day it's on, but having it in Sheffield on Boxing Day increases their crowd.
Despite all the PR, Panthers and Steelers do work very closely together.

Hey pal.
I support the Panthers, because i want them to win. Unlike you and a lot of others, who seem perfectly happy to give up every advantage to the opposition, then get crapped on and taken for mug cash cows by Panthers yet still sit there happy clapping !
It should be me asking you why you support them.....if you are happy to sit back happily and watch them make it hard for themselves and their fans.
Tell me what is wrong with my original question ? Go on tell me......nothing is the answer !

In regards to the question you asked, you just seemed to be making a big song and dance over very little and proceeding to blame the club. Let me ask you something, do you think continuously moaning on a forum changes any of the issues that bother you about the panthers, or even makes you any different from the rest of the 'cash cows' and 'happy clappers' who don't moan on here all the time and repeat them selves over and over? If you really want them to change you should do something constructive and contact them directly to let your thoughts and feelings be known, otherwise you should change the image you have of yourself being different from the rest of the posters on here as in reality you aren't

In this case, does playing in Sheffield on Boxing Day and at home the day after make any difference? Maybe it's cheaper for us because of staff costs at the NIC, but so what? It just seems an odd thing to be getting worked up over to me.

The only thing that annoys me Yotes is the lack of fight sometimes in the Panthers management. They should repay the fans like you and me,instead though they take they money option every time.
They leave us short when they should sign cover, they give up the home legs to get the bigger crowd, they let the fans travel on Boxing Day to possibly save a few quid on staffing costs etc etc etc.
The points I make are all relevant, some may see them as moaning,I don't moan because I'm a miserable git,I just try to make points as in any aspect of life, because I don't accept second best or anyone not giving 100%. If Panthers gave as much as their loyal fans do,they would be one hell of a team that's for sure.
As for do I think the forum changes anything, yes I do believe sometimes it does. But it's discussion on a forum at the end of the day,if we can't say what we feel then we may as well just shut the cage down,or what is the point.

I would think that the vast majority of fans can have other plans for Boxing Day, and therefore Panthers take the view that more people will be available when needed, i.e for a home game, on the 27th. And there would be less complaints from ST holders saying that they can't go to a home game on Boxing Day.

I personally plan both days to have hockey on so it doesn't make a difference whether we play home or away. They give us plenty of notice and to be honest, Panthers not wasting money on the extra expense of staff makes sense to me?!

It's a no brainer really, if it makes sense for both parties (Panthers & Steelers) I see no issue with it. As much as I may dislike Sheffield due to some of there off ice personnel I'm all for a good business relationship between the 2 clubs.

Let's be honest, which ever way around they do it some will be upset and others will be happy. But if it helps both clubs having it this way around then so be it! There are bigger things in life to worry about!

The only thing that annoys me Yotes is the lack of fight sometimes in the Panthers management. They should repay the fans like you and me,instead though they take they money option every time. You're assuming this is down to money, and it could well be, but as others have suggested they could actually be doing this for our benefit. The vast majority of the fans who will be there on the 27th would not be going to Sheffield the day before, and at Christmas I'd think it fairly likely that a lot of people would like to use Boxing Day for other reasons, seeing family, travelling home from wherever they spent the 25th, Godawful sales shopping, whatever. Either way, does it really matter? We lose nothing by playing on the 27th. Stuff like not taking the 2nd leg of a quarter final when we can, that I understand, we give away an advantage to play on the more popular date when we'll sell better (which in theory itself gives some advantage on the night from a larger crowd, but still), but this doesn't equate to that and yet you bundle them together and seem to get equally riled up? Just seems sometimes like your nose would get put out of joint by anything they did, tbh.

In his first article for The Cat’s Whiskers Panthers fan Andy Burnham takes a different view to most on Tyson Marsh’s ban reduction and argues that this was in fact necessary for the whole process to move forward. Link: wp.me/P6zbpB-dE
