Good Brits cost way more than imports, all down to supply and demand. They may well afford him but may have to spend less on other players, buying in cheaper imported players to balance the books.
I very much doubt that Ben Bowns is going to cost 'way' more than a top class import NM like Kwall, Doyle etc and lets face it having a brit NM hasnt affected what class of import Belfast can bring in has it? and I don't think that will be the case for Sheffield or any one else for that matter or they just wouldn't bother with a brit.
I think you'd find that they would cost more than a good import nettie. It it's a well known fact that good British players cost more, some significantly, than a good import.
The point I was making was that should Sheffield bring him in they will have to balance the books, when they signed O'Connor on a 3 year deal they had to get help to fund the costs from a sponsor, I believe from reading the forums. This season all teams can sign an additional dual national so the wage bills may creep up slightly, so should Sheffield sing Bowns, then I would assume he will command wages similar to Dowd and O'Connor which are rumoured to be high. Also remember Doyle was on a two year Uni deal, so he would have come in at a much cheaper cost too.
Cardiff are going places, like Phil says they've got Kelman, the new ownership want to win, almost took the title in Lord's first year, new arena will come online at some stage next year. Wouldn't blame Gui for wanting in on it. They'll be a good bet to be champs.
