It's clear that NB and the arena teams have much bigger ambitions in their plans. What's so wrong with Whitley Bay? I believe the Ice Plant no longer exists as the Metro Arena We cannot have this elitist or snobbish attitude towards arenas however nice and new they may look If we need to get an increase in teams for the EIHL - then Whitley Bay may have to be considered London itself is a big logistical nightmare and trying to attract big crowds when you've got so many Premiership Football teams, Cricket (Middlesex/Lords), Rugby Union (Saracens - Venue The Stoop and Harlequins - Venue Twickenham), plus other minority sports such as basketball etc If there is to b a team in London then it has to be a long term financial project at the right venue I don't think there is anything wrong with Whitley. But the location, being so far out of Newcastle, is not great, and it is ageing badly (or certainly was last time I went). If the EIHL is trying to attract top Euro sides and competitions, and doing a good job at it, then Whitley Bay is not the image they will want to portray. As much as I would want to see a North East team back, at the moment there is no rink that is suitable. Which is just problem 1 of a long list for a new NE team.

Whitley Bay needs knocking down and re-building.
One of the worst places I've ever been.
And it's colder than Edinburgh!!

Whitley Bay needs knocking down and re-building. One of the worst places I've ever been. And it's colder than Edinburgh!! The ice plant has also seen better days. In one of the corners in particular it is very noticeable that the pipework has seen better days because the ice is very thin, sometimes barely there at all, dependant upon time of year. Of course knackered ice plants/pipework aren't solely the preserve of damp old barns in the North East..... It is a shame that the new Streatham Hub ice rink wasn't built with more seating as I'd love to see a historic team like Streatham back in the top flight rather than some new 'London-branded' organisation. From what I understand the new building's design allows for potential expansion/seating on two more sides (opposite side from current seating and Zamboni parking end), though realistically this wouldn't give much more than a 1,500 seat increase. I'm not sure an EIHL team could survive in London in a 2,500 capacity venue.

The copper box look a fab arena with seating for over 7000 -http://queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/the-park/venues/copper-box-arena I thought they were turning the Copper Box into a community centre in the long run - although it would seem pretty perfect for an ice rink. Dies anyone know what is happening to the Cardiff's BBT next year - I heard that could be moved somewhere else for a rink in another town?

I an hearing, from an incredibly reliable source, that there is an issue with the flooring in Wembley, where it needs to be reduced by 2" for some reason, I assume this is to enable an ice plant to work, but I am not sure.
I hear that this is unlikely to be done in time for next season, so it is looking highly likely that the team will play the following season, from what I am told the funding is in place for the team and this is the only obstacle remaining. With the rumours surrounding Telford moving to Liverpool, it could be that both teams face off during that season.

I am sure it is when you consider panthers lack of quality in the current team and the lack of replacements/upgrades/extras, afterall the money made off the panthers has to go somewhere...
