USA trounce the Swiss 9-0 in their game this morning, Finland (who lost 3-1 in their opener to the US) v Canada (opened with a 5-0 on Switzerland) is on about 3pm our time I think, presumably streamed via the BBC website if nothing else.

Really enjoying the Woman's ice hockey! Have to say first time seeing a hockey player wearing eye liner during a game though.

The Finns held on well against Canada, took them 50 minutes to break through, but then fell apart a little for 3-0. GB's own Joy Tottman refereeing that one.

Just watched Japan V Russia. What a terrific game of Hockey, Japan were very good both defensively and their netminder excellent pulled of several great saves including 1 on 1's. Thier forwards very close on several chances.
Russia were rattled after the Japan equalizer. Japan very unlucky to lose 2-1 had a perfectly good goal not even reviewed by the German referee. Should have gone to OT.
overall great game of Hockey, Oh and the IIHF have re-named Penalty shots to 'Winning Shots' "What is up with that?"

For those with Sky, look at channels 977 & 978. BBC red button 1&2, saves having to mess about and you can scan through and see what games are on and when. Russia v USA on Saturday lunchtime should be a feisty affair

Nice one Caesar.
Other platforms/channels: Freeview, YouView, BT Vision & TalkTalk - 301 & 302 Sky - 977 & 978 Freesat - 981 & 982 Virgin Media - 991 & 992
Record a few games while I'm at work.
USA and Canada are straight to the semi finals of the women's event (Canada beat the US earlier, 3-2). Finland and Switzerland (4-3 Finland after overtime earlier) go into the quarterfinal stage.

Good game so far between Sweden and Czech. Czechs hit back from 4-0 down to 4-2. 3rd period just starting on whichever red button channel it is.

Was bound to finish 4-2 after I talked it up Switzerland score with 8 seconds left to beat Latvia in the other game. Olympic sized kick in the nuts for Latvia there.

Slovakia, who face the US, have a much better side than Slovenia, who face the Commies.
So I'd watch the USA game.
Looking at the schedule on the TV last night, the timings are all over the shop, yesterdays Sweden game didn't have long enough scheduled - although they showed the lot - and what it says is on often doesn't tie with what is actually on. Anyone managing/bothering to record any of this? Could just record both red button channels at certain times I guess.

As could be expected given my description of both rosters, America are destroying Slovakia (7-1 in the 2nd, a 6-1 period so far), whereas Slovenia are holding onto Russia, 2-1 in the 2nd to the hosts.
First rule of life: Never listen to me.

The Russians are still my favourites. They just take a while to settle into it.

The Russians are still my favourites. They just take a while to settle into it. Home ice advantage, like Panthers at the playoffs Canada off to a slow-ish start yesterday, 3-1 win over Norway. Czechs beat Latvia 4-2 earlier, Sweden and the Swiss 0-0 in the 2nd. In the womens section, Finland v Sweden and Russia v Switzerland will decide who goes to join US and Canada in the semi finals, and who joins Germany and Japan in the 5-8 placings round. Rather an odd format.

I fancy the Russians will win it especially in front of a home crowd, they look very strong this time round

A special mention to Kari Lethonen. Stops 20 out of 21 shots and gets 2 assists. Only 3 other players have more assists than him in the tournament so far (if you haven't worked it out, Kari's a netminder and a damn fine one at that!)

Continuing to prove me wrong, Slovenia beat Slovakia 3-1 earlier. USA and Russia currently tied at 1 each in the old Cold War derby In the womens event Sweden beat Finland 4-2 to go to the semis, Russia are currently losing 1-0 to Switzerland in the other "quarter" final.

Shame there is no commentary for the Latvia/Sweden game. Has this been the case for all the mens hockey not played in the main arena? Signal keeps dropping out as well.
*edit*
Commentary is on now so guess there was technical issues.

Seth and The Hat were watching the other game (Switzerland 1 Czech Rep 0).
Sweden beating Latvia 5-3 means group C finishes: Sweden 9pts Switzerland 6pts Czech Rep 3pts Latvia 0pts
Anyone know the format for the next round, there's a 8 team playoff qualification round before the quarters?
