Ive got a feeling NB will spend big this year to make a real push in europe , he knows he can trust CN with his money and with the potential of having as many imports as possible as well for the tourney

You have always spent big!! Panthers haven't always spent big. When you guys popped into existence Panthers were very much the whipping boys due, in no small part, to tight budget control. It was well reported in the press that Neil Black imposed a limit significantly below the actual cap. Now days Panthers spend within their means, something many other teams, including Belfast, could do with learning to do too. Panthers are playing in Europe twice next season. If he doesn't get picked up by a mainland European team then perhaps he'll want to get himself into the only shop window in the league.

If Dowd signed I'd run naked through Bolero square in celebration. God help you all if he does.

What do you all make of the team in the refurbed Wembley rumour? Got to be good if true hasn't it? And I for one have no issues with Mr Black being involved if that is true as well. I don't think the sport in this country is big enough to be choosey about things like that and despite the fact I will continue to use his dual ownership as a means to rib you lot, I don't really have any issues with it so long as the sport grows, and I think a London team is exactly what we need to gain much needed credibility.

Absolutely Nem! Wembley is the major spiritual home of ice hockey in Britain - with due respect to Kirkcaldy, which has been around for 75 years - a fantastic achievement! Back to Wembley - it is the only rink location in London that still exists from the 'Golden Age' of British ice hockey - i.e. the 1930's & 1940's. We have lost other major Arenas in London from that era - i.e. Harringay (almost 10,000 capacity - demolished in 1958) and the Empress Hall, Earls Court (7,000 capacity - demolished in the early 1960's). More recently, we lost the London Arena (10,000 capacity demolished in 2006. Wembley holds a special place in the heart of every ice hockey fan who can remember the Heineken Ice Hockey League of the 1980's & 1990's. To be able to hold the Play-Off Championships there again would be fantastic, although if they do install and develop a viable Wembley Lions / Monarchs or London Lions / Knights team in there, then I expect they will get the same criticism of unfair advantage levelled against them, if ever they reached the final stages! A vibrant and successful team in London is vital to the development of the sport in a national media coverage context, and if the marketing of a new team can successfully embrace the ex-Pat hockey loving Canadian and American communities in London, then they could have a recipe for success.

A Wembley team could be the catalyst for Guildford to finally make the step up too...

A Wembley team could be the catalyst for Guildford to finally make the step up too... It'll take a lot more than that for Guildford to step up. Assuming you've never been to the Spectrum - it's not the biggest in terms of sizing/capacity. I'd guesstimate it to be about the same as Murrayfield. Currently, they're a big fish in a small pond when it comes to the EPL. If you put them in the EIHL their travel costs would go through the roof (currently their furthest travel is Sheffield or Manchester) - one team within 90 minutes of them won't remove the fact Guildford to Dundee would be an absolutely absurd commute regardless of their method of transport. Also, the increased cost of imports and the associated paperwork, housing etc would be a big turn off. Guildford's running costs will already be fairly big because of their southern location, jumping up into the big time would send them beyond the realms of affordability, I think. Don't get me wrong i'd love to see a Southern team near/in the capital in the top flight but I can't see it being Guildford. In terms of new/revived teams, I would much rather see hockey back in the North East. Durham or Newcastle could still feasibly find a fanbase if there was someone prepared to give them a rink.

A Wembley team could be the catalyst for Guildford to finally make the step up too... It would certainly help even up the numbers BigLad! My only doubt is that from a business plan perspective, it may still be more advantageous for Guildford to remain a 'bigger fish in the smaller pond' of the EPL (no offence intended), than join the Elite League, with it's increased budget requirements?

Wonder if he's decided to call it a day in Nottingham and move back down south. Has he jumped before Big Doug welds the axe.

No chance of a London team imo. too big a risk and too pricey.
