Strengthen from a strong position. Sorry is this the same Panthers I've been watching for the past few years? Very impressed. We need to be able to rotate in this month, toughest part of our season. We might be spending a fair bit, but if "it" finally happens 57 years on, it'll be worth it. Welcome home DAB

Very good to see him back. I'm guessing his age means he's unlikely to ice every game, but for key games when we need a proven goalscorer, there's few I'd rather have.

I think the age thing is unfair. Ling is as old and no one would dream of "resting" him. Beau is in great shape and he'll want to play as much as anyone. It'll give us more options than any other team.

And already the bitter "Panthers Are buying the League" comments rear their ugly head. Only on the dreaded facebook admittedly but i'm sure various fans forums will soon be full of such comments. Oh and defending the Panthers on fb against this point of view? David Simms Well, kind of. Examples:- "No sports league is equal. Anywhere in the World. No one dislikes the Panthers as much as me but they have delivered off the ice so they can now deliver on it. The rinks have bigger advantages than they do negatives, cheaper or no rink rent, more ice availability. They use the arena / money excuse rather than looking at their own clubs and how they could be doing better and generating more money." and................. "Edinburgh & Hull start the season £300,000 plus ahead of Nottingham, Sheffield and Belfast - thats some start. I pray Nottingham don't win it but you can't be jealous, you have to work harder doing what we all can do to help our clubs compete and beat them. Every morning I get up and my first thought is what can i do to make my hockey club better today, if more did that Nottingham wouldn't have a sniff."

But I thought he's been banding about the idea of retirement for a season or two now?

When will he return though? Will DAB be in for either of the Cov games this weekend? That would be nice. To see the look on Tommos face the same as he had when we Molin iced in the warm up in white skates a few season ago. I think that's when the "Team Hollywood" was said by Tommo. ;D

Absolutely delighted, proven quality in this league, hard worker and for the fans it's a real champagne moment to get the chance to welcome back a hero of previous campaigns.
The two huge reasons I like this signing are 1) he's the sort of player who will keep others on their toes, players have to work for their roster spot at a time of year when Panthers traditionally slump and lose games they shouldn't and 2) we're strengthening from a position of strength. It's not 'buying' the league it's reaping the rewards to which we are more than entitled - it's great to see and massive kudos to everyone involved, from the chairman down, for making this happen.
Now let's go and win that title, NO letting up!

probably a slightly overlooked but important fact is that this signing significantly strengthens our Penalty shot group, the difference between 1 point and 2, the difference between 2nd and champions

very happy at the signing, proven at this level and knows where the goal is.
i do just hope it isnt one year too much for him, i dont want the memories of the last 2 playoffs to be ruined for him & the fans and he fizzles out on a low point and not the high of the playoff GWG of the last 2 seasons.

To all the teams moaning about 'buying the league.' life is unfair.
Derby County will probably never compete with Manchester United due to size and fanbase. As such in Ice Hockey Edinburgh Capitals will never compete with the Nottingham Panthers due to size and fanbase.
Life is not fair, some people are good at sport, others good looking, some people come from a rich family. Deal with it!

Brilliant news and a great response from the Panthers to the Shields/Champagne dodgy deal, because you can bet there will be a quality import landing in Belfast soon to replace Champagne.
Well done Panthers,a great signing and perfectly timed.

Oh poo.........
Just in case you guys weren't talented enough.... Seriously Black has put the money on the table for Neilson to assemble a title winning side.
Really Really can see you not doing it now, surely Corey can't screw this up !

So, Sunday 7th April... Play-Offs final... if it's Panthers vs Devils, expect a whole load of Cardiff types to be bricking it every time DAB has the puck! ;D
Can't argue with a goalscorer like DAB, despite the "OK, so who the hell do we sit out this game?" problem (and it IS a problem, now that the initially-criticised types like Galivan & Graham are really producing). We've already got the most potent offence in the league (and the second-best defence) - the additional scoring potential is still more than welcome, however... anything to make the opposition teams' lives more difficult. Especially hoping he'll be here and fully up to speed by Jan 19th, and makes Belfast's life a misery.

Saw it coming and a signing which would improve any team in the league.
My only concern is that it disrupts the team like the resigning of McAslan did (although the resigning of Lepine earlier this season did completely the opposite). My opinion is that Galivan's and Graham's improvement are the reason we are playing so well recently.
On another point, I don't see it as a "buying the league" - I can't imagine he will be costing much, and him plus Wilson will be costing nowhere near even one of the NHLers insurance fees if rumours are to be believed.

Great to see us spending some money and rolling a squad, should have done it all season. Just need a couple of Brits to cover d and forward incase of injury and an import netminder on standby and we're set. Oh yes, also sign sharp incase we need to spear anyone else, Brit can take the ban no probs.
