I don't know...I'm really concerned to be honest.
The NHL can't survive another lockout.

Why do you think there are no plans to bring teams to Europe to start the season off this year? It's due to them not expecting the season to start on time

They expect to, they just haven't planned anything yet.

I have faith that they wont allow another devastating lock out. Both parties know how bad that was to the sport last time around.

There may be 123,000 tickets for sale but you ll be lucky to get one, unless you get a package via a US office

They expect to, they just haven't planned anything yet. Each of the previous 5 or 6 years have had the tickets go on sale for the games as early as February - It's mid May and they have still to announce the teams and venues - it's not going to happen this season.

They might not have gone on sale but it's Leafs @ Red Wings at the Michigan football ground (don't know which one) that currently holds the world record for attendance an outdoor hockey game.

Looks like the NHL are coming out playing hardball! www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400580No way is the NHLPA going to accept that little lot... not even half of it! This could get nasty. Which is a pity, because (IMHO anyway) several of those proposals make sense:- reduction of players' hockey-related revenues from 57 per cent to 46 per centThat's not going to fly... and I bet the NHL know it. They probably want 50%, although I suspect they'll have a hard fight to even get that. But dropping 11% in one go? - never going to happen players would need to wait 10 seasons before becoming unrestricted free agentsNope - can't see the NHLPA going for that one, either. Not an essential requirement either, I'd have thought. contracts would be limited to a maximum of five yearsYes! A very sensible suggestion! Despite the fact that it's the fault of the owners just as much as the players, these uber-long contracts are just building up trouble. an end to salary arbitrationThat one is going to get opposed, and rightly so IMHO. I cynically have to wonder if the NHL put this one in just so they could have something to give up as a concession? entry-level contracts would be five years instead of three as they are under the current CBACan't see the union tolerating this one either... and to be honest, I'm inclined to agree with them. eliminate signing bonuses on future contractsMakes sense... plugging a loophole. all future deals have an equal value for every year of the contractAlso think this one's a good idea... stop these stupid front-loaded contracts... just another way to cook the books. Make all contracts simple - x years at $y per year - simple as. "NHL proposal amounts to Declaration of War against NHLPA"No kidding!

Hmm, perhaps Corey is right to hold onto those last few roster spots incase of a lockout.

The first exchange was always going to be one-sided, this doesn't change a thing.

The first exchange was always going to be one-sided, this doesn't change a thing. Was going to say the same thing! It's just the NHL Wanting to get a response, the NHLPA will now come back with there own terms, my guess is that the NHLPA will be looking for something similar to what they already have as it is favored towards them as it is.

It's getting pretty clear at this point that neither the players, the management nor the owners really give two s**ts about the fans.

I think the question now is how long do you think we'll miss?

If it starts December 1st i'd be happy. I'm not at all confident we'll see any hockey this year.

I think the question now is how long do you think we'll miss? The whole season probably. Fehr isn't going to cave anytime soon, and Bettman and the owners aren't going to either. Only one side (the NHL) seem interested in negotiating at the moment, the PA have offered the same thing 3 times, the NHL made an opening offer similar to that of the other major NA sports and have moved more towards a middle ground in each of their follow up. I don't expect this to change before a lockout is officially announced. Though part of the last NHL offer will be off the table at that point (keeping current HRR defention)

According to SSN the lockout is now official after the deadline passed with no new agreement in place.
