Does anyone know if you have to pay import duty and/or Tax to import a hoodie from the USA? Can't find NHL hoodies anywhere online in the UK and theres a great Reebok Florida Panthers with NHL logo i want!

i believe it depends on how the supplier declares it.
If they declare as a gift you shouldn't pay duty.

I order stuff from the States on a regular basis, and normally get smacked with a charge of some sort. I think the charge depends on the value of what you're importing (A $100 order from Victoria's Secret cost me £18 but it might have gone down now you can get it over here). The best way to get around it would be have someone stateside buy it, repackage it as a gift and send it on, and have you wire the money to them.
You only get a duty if it's over £130 i think.

Current import duty threshold is £135, which means that if the value of the item (not including p&p costs etc) falls below this amount you shouldn't be charged import duty.
Import VAT on the otherhand can be charged on goods of any value above £15, and once again, just the item value (not including p&p) is used as the basis for the VAT calculation.
As for the rate of import duty etc you may get charged at if the value of the item(s) being imported qualifies, there are over 14,000 import duty rates relating to different item descriptions. For instance, complete bicycles are charged a higher rate of import duty than bicycle parts and this carries across to many different products, parts being cheaper to import than whole products.
More relevant to the OPs question though, I also believe (though I'm going off the top of my head here) that 'sports clothing' attracts lower rate of import duty than 'clothing', so customs declaration descriptions alone could save you money.
