apparently LW Steven Goertzen has signed to play in the uk next season 430+ AHL games, played NHL 2 years ago eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10320Let the guessing commence. I would be putting my money on Belfast for this one.

He seems to fit the profile of the guy we're waiting to announce once he gets clearance from Sheffield University.
He's been described as under 30, with loads of AHL and NHL experience, but not likely to be a top points scorer in the league.....Goertzen certainly seems to fit that profile.
From memory 37hockey is also where Finner recruits most of his players from.

Interesting if so. Career NHL/AHL player, but not real point production at all. First NHL year 39 games, 0 points, -17, for example. Coming off a first season abroad, rather strangely with a minor team in the Czech league (not most NA players' first port of call in Europe) ending up being relegated from the Czech Elite league with a personal haul of 5 points in 62 games all year.
But he must have something to his game. Must just be an ideal 4th line player. Which means he should be PDG in the UK.

You have to have something to play that many AHL/NHL games and not long ago either

Yeah but not a lot of points at the end of it It's always difficult to judge players points in the AHL, because it's so much better than our league and we don't know the specific roles assigned to players and the amount of ice time they got. This guy has very similar points/game in the AHL to Sean McAslan, although I wouldn't expect him to put up anything like the points McAslan did whilst he was over here. Regards Doom

Exactly. Rob Bellamy had distinctly average AHL stats but was a top quality player over here. Goertzen's stats remind me a lot of a guy called John Zeiler, who played for the Kings at the O2 Arena when the NHL came to London. Only really a 4th line player at NHL level, no PP time at all, and 5-10 minutes a night icetime, but speedy and gritty, and a roleplayer. 90 career NHL games got him 4 points. Zeiler is now doing a decent job in the DEL. 28 points last year.

Potent firepower? if Panthers had their forwards I'd be very worried.

Potent firepower? if Panthers had their forwards I'd be very worried. I'd agree it's not potent firepower, but there's certainly more depth in our scoring this season. When I look at the Panthers line-up I see 5 guys who I'd expect to score 25+ goals (Clarke, Fox, Galivan, Graham and Francis). Of the Steelers signings to date I see 2 guys (Legue and Pecker), with Goertzen possibly being a 25+ guy if it is him who is announced tomorrow. Of course the league isn't just about having the highest goalscorers, if I recall correctly Nottingham were top scorers last season but finished well below Belfast in the league. Championships aren't won by turning 3 - 0 wins into 10 - 0 wins against the likes of Hull and boosting stats, they're usually won by scraping 2 - 1 victories in tight rinks like Cardiff. Regards Doom

It's a weird one this. CV says big money. PR says not signed to be a big scorer. So have Steelers signed the most expensive 3rd liner in the league? I'd expect not. Bellamy like stats if he stays healthy. The EIHL will be a breeze for him after the A and the Czech league.

given the pedigree this looks to be a very expensive signing, one of which i cant see on the panthers roster as yet....

Still I think to have a decent shot at competing the last 2 d men need to be very good and at least one of them needs to be seriously tough. Preferably both.

no doubt going to be a good player, just depends how he see's his time at the steelers and uni. will it be another case of education first and hockey on the back burner?
