Any recommendations for a pub within say 5 miles or so of M1 J26? One that serves good food, preferably not one that is overrun by anklebiters or is 'family friendly' (frequently a horrible atmosphere). Country pub style by preference...

If you want to go further afield.... The Dolphin in Derby.... limited menu, but what they do serve is incredible. Lots of steaks, different pies, typical pub food
Not part of any chain either

Can highly recommend the Nelson and Railway in Kimberley- owned by relatives of mine. Always been a pub to visit. Second in line is The Griffin at Papplewick, very nice .

Thank-you for the recommendations... we ended up going to the Nelson & Railway - nice quiet pub, the food was very good, the service was good (apart from the fact my dad asked for the pork & cider pie and ended up with steak & kidney - but it was good quality, so no harm done). Would definitely recommend this pub for a meal.
