I thought we picked up Steve Lee from Guildford Flames? You thought right: 2008-2009 - Guildford Flames 2009-2010 - Nottingham Panthers

I thought we picked up Steve Lee from Guildford Flames? I'd love to see us get a Dowd/Peacock but probably unrealistic; more realistic would be Bobby Chamberlain (definitely one for the future) especially if Hull are EPL bound and he fancies hanging around in the EIHL. Either him or Phil Hill/Farmer for me. You are correct on Lee. Played one season out of Hull in Guildford the year before we got him. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=35620

Yeah I they were: eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=21352He would've been a young guy then, so not a "top" Brit, but I guess the point is we do have form for taking promising looking players from other clubs, they've not all come through the Nottingham set up. As opposed again to our competitors taking more finished articles you mean... again i quote dowd and peacock to belfast and ash to steelers?... If we could whats to stop us offering dowd a wedge of cash, we must be at least as capable of belfast to sign him? or as some have said farmer is more along the route now to a mature british player...

Surely these 'finished articles' have had to start somewhere?

true enough Panthers44 they do have to start somewhere and in Nottm we have a good junior development for such players, but look at belfast last year when they won the league. Do you honestly think without dowd being poached from steelers they would have won? And whose to say that if dowd had stayed in sheffield he could have made that little extra that meant they would have retained the title?
I am talking about taking "finished articles" to complete hopefully an already impressive roster (as belfast had last season) , why shouldnt panthers be looking at other british players in our league afterall it has worked very successfully for our main rivals hasnt it?

Peacock was hardly the finished article at Pirates. He had 3 games in the EIHL on loan at Bastingstoke before he joined Giants. His signing for Giants is not really different to ours as any of our Brits (Lacho aside)

We've got a very good set of Brits already in fairness (some homegrown and others 'poached') but can't help feeling that maybe a few have slipped through the net also - Ashley Tait, Phil Hill and Robert Farmer weren't they all involved in various stages of the Nottm junior system? Not sure if Peacock was too? Or maybe i'm just assuming that because his Dad played for us? Add any one/two of those to our team/squad of the last couple of seasons or even next season and who knows?

His signing for Giants is not really different to ours as any of our Brits (Lacho aside) Peacock was a massive star in the EPL - and from what I've been told every Peterborough (phantoms, not pirates) coach said he was better at every age group than David Clarke. The 'next' one to watch out for from the Peterborough factory is Luke Ferrara. Top goal scorer, potential to be even better than Peacock. And there are a couple more in the system too.

I'm not disputing his ability. I'm just pointing out that he was not the finished article.

Didn't we try to get Tony Hand in one time?

think he was over 40 though and well over the hill whereas steelers nicked him when he was one of the few brits who were better than the imports in the ISL days and had the audacity to claim they were helping british development...

Owen would be a great signing for a couple more seasons and give us the extra import D option.

Bari Mckenzie from Edinburgh for me. 53 points for the season, 8th highest points scoring Brit in the league, only 3 less than Lacho having played 9 games less. Surely he could be tempted away from the Caps. Picked up by Cardiff for the 2012/2013 season.

personally, I don't think we need a new brit, just maybe dress some of the two way players more often e.g. Ward and Soar and then give Danny Rose and Ollie Betteridge a chance (but not just dress them to sit on the bench when they could be getting ice time elsewhere)
